  1. Maybe it was the shot he took to the head that made him say all those things <laughs>
  2. They could have a hybrid cut chamber , like Fulton Armory does on there Krieger Criterion 308 barrels .FA says , you can shoot both in there's , Although I really can't see a difference now a days . The .308 cut chamber may be a little better shooter , I say, may , be a better shooter.
  3. I'm going to use my back up Digital scale .I can't wait for Pact to return my scale , I have testing to do . Any way , when i first got the Pact scale ,my back up was close to the same readings & I used it for years ,before I got the new Pact. Loaded some 175's with 38.5 of WC 846 to start with & have brass in the tumbler , for more 175 gr, bullet test loads .
  4. Well my big $$ Pact scale would not calibrate today , I had problems with it yesterday, but got it to work , now I have to send it back , so all testing has stopped until it gets back . I have other scales , including another digital , but want to keep testing as consistent as possible. I did load some with 168 SMK 's yesterday but no 175's yet. Damn ! :bat:
  5. I know 98 "got" that one ! You will be surprised at how smooth they are after a good cleaning, lbricating , also on how much crap gets in there. I use Synthetic grease now a days, catches a lot of gunk , but works longer & smoother over time .
  6. There is a loose fit of gas tube in all AR Receivers , where it penetrates the Upper Receiver., the gas tube should be aligned with the Key on the Bolt Carrier,. if the gas block is set up properly. The play you speak of could be for expansion or barrel movement when fired & yes the Barrel wips around pretty good with some barrel contours.
  7. And she has your trigger <laughs>
  8. First , nothing against him or his tests, I wish I had the $$ to do testing like that . Didn't miss it , it reads , removed all visible lubricant , not degreased & dry. Dry means dry, not impregnated with lubricant molecules of some sort . I have no doubt of the test results & my point is & was that the damage done by doing this is probably irreversible & by doing this , the premature wear will result in component replacement to keep the rifle serviceable, if I was to trust my life or others , with a rifle treated in this way. IMO It also doesn't say if the upper was provided to him from BC or he just ordered one like you or I would .That in its self, if provided by BC , would make the test suspect. He tested & got the results that have been gone over on the internet & magazine industry since the M16 first came out . What started it all was misconception that these rifles or any rifle needs to be cleaned & lubricated . Ever since these rifles caused many American lives to be lost because of that misconception that they don't need oiling or cleaning , this debate about the DI system has gone on . He did some good testing that proved the DI system is just as good as a piston system & to me , less parts that move , is a very good thing . You are into racing engines with you Quads , the coating that can be put on pistons & other internal components to reduce friction , are not to be used with out lubricants , they are there just to reduce friction . You wouldn't think of running in a race with out oil , I know there are additives out there that boast of such things ,but by doing so , would you use that engine for a daily driver afterwards ? If so , what kind of service do you thing you would get out of it ,with out a problem? Same with the coatings put on the components of AR"s , they are friction reducing coatings , sure you can run them with reduced lubricant , but when you wear that coating off & they will all wear off on high friction areas, what then, new components of course. Here's an example of real testing , IMO , much better than any you will read about . I have an AR 15 I built in 1981-82 , its built on almost all Olympic Arms components , the only thing that was not purchased from them is the Milspec M16 BCG, I have shot this rifle so much over the years , I could not even think of what the round count is , this rifle has been maintained by me all this time & still has all the original parts still in it , except I put a TM. flat top upper Receiver to put a scope on it last year, all internals are original & I still take it out as a test bed for 5.56 reloads & since it has a Oly. 24" SS,Ultra match barrel on it & will still keep under MOA @ 200 yards, if I do my part. That test is why you maintain you firearms , most of us don't have manufacturers giving us firearms ,that will be replaced if any malfunction occurs or a firearm to test to make them look good.
  9. Got the 175's today & there really isn't much of a size difference . My neck bushing is here also & will be using the Redding type S bushing die, full length sizer to size the brass I have ready to go.
  10. There are some self adhesive cheek pads , of different thickness's, you can use , that shouldn't get in the way of the charging handle operation.I have not used them , so can't say how they might help.
  11. Sorry ,but that's not running it dry . My point was that we don't have a manufacturer that says , if you rifle hiccups , we will replace it , nor can that happen in combat , you don't have extra's to pick up or have the time to wait for a manufacturer to replace it ,because it hiccups in a fire fight . The weapons have to be taken care of , to work properly & prevent premature wear , to prevent those hiccups . I have no problem with DI gas systems or any gas operating system if they are routinely serviced . Its nice to have a major manufacture that is waiting in the wings to replace a rifle if it hiccups while in use by not using proper lubrication routine , which just rubs me wrong how some one ( manufacturers rep. ) can say that & not get the end users (professionals) to even question it . ( to my knowledge ) This reminds me of a time when the DOD said , "this new rifle needs no cleaning , so cleaning kits w/ oil , will not be needed ". Seems like we went full circle .
  12. Some times you have to disassemble & clean these things. Probably why this press is still working great , as old as it is. Wow, Almost new again !
  13. I load for a couple of Browning BAR's with Hornady 150 gr. SST bullets , Fed. Primer & 49 gr. of IMR 4064 , but those are not M1's & I will have to look at my Chrono. data for avg. Velocity, but its not a hot load . You should not have a problem with heavier bullets in a Garand , just have to load them to a safe pressure for the M1's action . I used to reload for my Garand, when I used to hunt with it twenty years ago. Side mount scope & all . My 175 gr. bullets will be here tomorrow & also I ordered another Neck Bushing for my Redding type S full length sizing die & will be using it to compare with my Small base die , that I have been using for a long, long time . Both with the 175's & the two 168 gr. loads that I have for the two rifles. I have seen improvements by using a full length sizer die with my 5.56 in my 24 " match barreled AR. Showing my reloading age……..
  14. Dooooooo !
  15. Well , that just blows the poll out <laughs> I voted for the DD .
  16. Looks like it got some recoil & interesting how the ejected brass is ejected out of a tube in front of the shooter .
  17. Fast trigger work .
  18. Run them dry ? Really ? If I was using this or any type rifle for work or combat , that statement would have raised an eye brow for sure . Any time you hear a statement like that you know its BS. How long can you run it with out lubricant ? Whats happening to the components running them dry for extended periods of time ? Premature wear for sure , no matter what finnish you have on there . What if it hiccups when in CQB , what then ? This reminds me of the days when (probably still this way ) these magazine editors would get firearms that were special built, just for there testing , not the ones you or I would get off the shelf . Colt AR's are nice rifles & they have a good name behind them, but I have over the years worked on Colt AR's & they are no different then any other rifle thats mass produced , a % will break or malfunction & will need repair , just the way it is . The more of any firearm thats made , the more % of problems will surface. Demo rifles are notorious for being gone over , sometimes with special parts that you or I will never see in a production rifle . Colt does support three gun & has custom rifles made by them for the matches. I think this is a good deal for Colt , myself.
  19. I ordered some ( 250. ct ) Nosler 175 gr. match bullets today , see how the work when they get here . I'm loading some more test ammo & have the brass prepped & loadings marked for which barrel, to see if I can make some work better & will wait to test after the 175's get here ,I have brass ready to put them in. I'm also loading some with Federal primers , besides the WW & CCI's . If I get back to Gander mountain , they had some Remington primers by the 100 & may pick some up to test also.
  20. What a waste of ammo . Can I have the ammo that wasn't damaged ? <dontknow>
  21. Ohio , where I gun hunt is proposing rule changes to allow pistol caliber & what looks like black powder rifles to be used . This is only a proposal & not voted on yet by the commission . I just happen to have a 45-70 ,but it seems like they mean black powder for a loading , at least that's what it looks like to me . I'll be watching to see how this develops , interesting they even thought or contemplating this.
  22. Was it the old , higher rail ?
  23. Does it need a special spy gun or you just need to get one to do Cerakote ?
  24. Most receiver extensions be them Carbine or rifle length , will work on both type rifles, 308AR or AR 15's & there attaching components , its the springs & buffers that are specific to Caliber /stock type . Of course you can go further & say some are brand specific & may cause problems if not used with there components. Are you confused yet ? I think some of the manufacturers want it that way .
