  1. The TM 300BLK shot good , had some problems with the new Troy mags I was trying out for the first time . Went to the used Magpuls & she never missed a beat . Still could be just break in problems .The Troys have not been used before & I should of tested with a known mag ,just to see if it was the rifle or mag. ,will do more testing later with them on other platforms . Also the scope is mounted far too low to do any kind of accuracy testing . It was just put on to test fire any way . That scope has been on just about every rifle & slug gun I own . Every time I shoot the 300BLK , some one at the range asks me what rd. am I shooting , what's with that .
  2. I sold the DPMS complete lower I got for cheap last year to a friend of mine , to build him his first AR 308 . I going to pick up a Tactical Machine, 308 matched set later this month .So, I will be building two 308's at the same time .
  3. I personally would use some one else's barrel ., but the cal. is interesting.
  4. After 100rds its down to a consistent 6 1/4 # . I tested my hand polished trigger group , (that's been in three rifles ) that I have in the 300 BLK & it was a consistent 5 7/8 # but gritty , unlike the Spikes NB , it is a smooth trigger . I will post a target in the iron sight target thread , if I can find it . This 16" with MBUS shoots very well with this trigger set up .
  5. I'm confused with that statement . What rifle are you talking about , The one you haven't shot or another one ?
  6. Well I got tired of waiting from my buddy ( soon not to be ) to get my other trigger tension gage back , so I picked up a RCBS premium gage & the Spikes is consistent @ 6 3/4 # , It may loosen up a bit & time will tell . I need an excuse to take the 16" out any way.
  7. I agree with that (I just love my Geissele) ,but for a service trigger group , you can't beat his work or his price . He did the trigger group in my 870 12 ga. Mag. DSG also & its right at 4# & I have shot plenty of white tails up there in Ohio with it . Year before last a 158 yrd. one shot drop on a 9 point . I don't think I could have done that with the stock Rem. trigger. No doubt the Geissele sear surface will last a life time. We all should know that the mil spec TG 's are a crap shoot as far as there hardness in the sear area's.
  8. I did some math & with all them "0"s , I may not be right ,but it works out to 90,000,000 per year . Lets take Robo's figure of 250,000 LE & assume they all use to .40 & it comes to 360 rds per LE per year . Please some one correct me if I fub'd the numbers ,but that doesn't seem bad , I think a little low for training myself . Now that's if the input #'s are correct & they all use a .40 for service weapon . That's a big IF .
  9. After some tests with 9MM,115 gr, HP , the "9MM" is not some thing to be dismissed . The problem with the 9 MM is most Military use hard ball ( gangsters too , why do you thing so many live to brag about how many times they have been shot ) & that pill just pokes holes , no expansion. The HP's I tested were impressive , but I still Carrie a 45ACP.
  10. Why not use one of the bipod fore grips. What you have is a carbine hand guard & stuff gets a little tight in there with one , when you start adding it all at the "6" O'Clock position You could also go with a longer hand guard also , a mid hand guard will give you the extra room .Of course you know that & all this is going to cost you some $$ ,no matter which way ya go .
  11. Ok , so what was there last procurement of ammo in this cal . ? I know most LE went to the .40 ,but that was quit a bit ago & does the Coast guard use .40S&W ? How much will this ammo procurement effect how much this co. makes for the rest of us ?
  12. You should still clean all the threads & use blue loctite . I use acetone on a Qtip to clean threads , but alcohol ,( not the drinking type ) will work
  13. I see no photo , it always helps having visual effects.
  14. If you don't care if you see the gas block , go with the JP VTAC ,mid length , its round & has a great mounting system. Less weight than the longer one & you can put there rails any where. I also like the Apex & the Troy's. Kinda hard to decide, ayh.
  15. There's an email going around that reads that ATC is got a contract for Home land security for 450 million rds. of .40 S&W . can this be ? or is this more bullpoopy.
  16. Believe it or not , you can hold ANY semi auto loading action , wrong & it will malfunction . We used to call it limp wrist , but not having a solid shoulder weld will also do it . Run her wet. As far as breaking in a hand lapped barrel , what's to break in , the rifling has already been lapped to remove any imperfections from machining.
  17. Is your intension to run with other bench rifles in competition ? This may help in consistent shot to shot accuracy & you may be on to some thing, in keeping up with the bolt action rifles. But , I know nothing of the rules of Bench rifle shooting , will this be able to compete ? People who make the rules can sometimes be , lets say , not open to new things or not let one compete in certain classes.
  18. Deland ,Florida. I finished putting her all together the other day & this is the first chance I had to take some photo's . Looks different all black. We will see if she shoots any different , kinda doubt it .
  19. Not to mention , someone has to look up your order , pack it & then ship it . Just saying .
  20. Ok , I'm game , what is it ?
  21. My reloads work the same in both my 20" & my 16" , both have rifle length gas systems so I'm only losing bbl. length vol. , which only matters at long range any way. I use a milspc powder( WC 846 ) so my load data will mean nothing to any of you . All barrels will most likely shoot different or like different loads any way so you have to see what your barrel likes . Bullet manufacturer & bullet weights may like one barrel & not another or one barrel my like a certain velocity & another may not print good with it . Its all a trial & no error ,just what one barrel likes & not. If you want me to post some loads & Chrono data of my work up loads I will ,but as said ,what works for me may not work in your barrel .My rifle length gas system on my 16" will also give different results than , say a carbine length or for that matter a Mid length . Any loading manual will have starting loads , as you know & start there & work your way around them .
  22. I don't mix my uppers & lowers any how . When I build a rifle , its stays together . Swapping uppers on AR's is a great feature , but I don't choose to do it . I have been wanting to do this to my 20 " DPMS 308 build & just haven't found the time yet .My 20 " will mostly put them in one hole now I put the Geissele trigger in & got my load down ,but I do get one some times that goes out of the one hole & have always wondered ,is it me or because there is a little slop in the receivers . Probably me . <thumbsup>
  23. Nice , what stock is that ?
  24. Did you install the trigger/spring with the pin ? Most pins will go through the receiver with out a trigger/spring to give it resistance & of course the "J " spring in the hammer keeps the hammer pin in place , as does the hammer spring keep the trigger pin in place. Pins should have groves in them for this purpose . Some may be tight & there should be some slight resistance.

    BCG

Mixing is not a problem . I have one DPMS chromed carrier & one Fulton chromed Carrier & they both work fine with mixed bolts. The spec's of the ( DPMS type )bolts & carriers are the same , be it Fulton or DPMS , but I can not say for sure about Armalites BCG's being mixed with DPMS type parts .
