  1. What he said.
  2. I have all kinds of barrel nut wrenches & may have one to fit your bbl. nut . Need specifics or a photo & I can send you one to use . I keep most in the org. boxes or bags so it may be identified.
  3. Gas port size is directly related to where it is on the barrel & of course what some manufacturers may want it . Gas pressure decreases proportionally to barrel length, further out toward the end of the barrel , the port needs to be larger to keep gas pressure up to properly cycle action . Further out , longer gas tube, more expansion & less pressure , so ya need more gas pressure & volume to work the action, = larger port size . Bore dia. has a lot to do with it also. I had a M16 ( XM 177 )that I installed a new 10 1/2 barrel on & like 98 , I had to increase the port size to make it function properly in full auto . That doesn't mean it was the first think I tried or checked out , it was the last . There are far too many other things in an AR to check , before open holes larger .
  4. Interesting scope.
  5. This rifle will change shortly , but here it is now .
  6. Wear from the gas key or to it ? The gas key should have a chrome lining & still should be cleaned with the rest of the rifle . As far as do they wear out , as said from 98 , sustained full auto fire & you can melt holes in them , but I have never seen it . I just put the same gas tube back in my pre ban Oly. after changing the upper out to a flat top from TM. & it had some black marks on it that won't come out or off , but its been in service on the rifle for over twenty five years & still good . I have & my brother( who I built if for so many years ago) , put all kinds of ammo through her , none that I knew was corrosive (but could have been ) I 'm all for the black gas tube though & I saw that at there sight the other day & thought about it , but since I have a couple of news one laying around , I said naw , maybe next time . Spike is also using Melonite barrels on there new carbines they build . I want a Bolt carrier & key ( bolt, I want chrome or fail zero or the likes ), that has been through the Melonite process to test , any one know where to get one ?
  7. 98 What do you think of the Spikes NIB battle trigger ? I almost ordered the set last night .
  8. Unless you are pulling it off every time you clean your rifle , they will all seal eventually. I personally like steel clamp on type .
  9. Went to B&N last night & none ,not on there web sight ,but my daughter said I can have them order it , but I got the new Book of the AR -15 , by G&A . I haven't read it yet ,but man there is some good stuff in it , as usual. The new LWRC M6-IC is a very interesting rifle , with the way they attach the barrel . They have a abuse test of AR's , where they run them over with a truck & throw them off a building & a bunch more abuse that I would not think these rifles would withstand & they do . I can't wait to read it all .
  10. Pre ordered the new Magpul 870 stock , Friend & high cheek pad today, in FDE . I wanted a clamp on gas block & man there are no .750 blocks I like in stock , damn .
  11. B&N , cool ,my daughter in collage works for them & I will get it at a discount . Thanks
  12. I would not bet the store on it , nor the legal fee's to find out .
  13. All hand loads , every thing from 69 gr. SMK to 52 gr. SMK & 62 & 55 gr. FMJ..
  14. Berry's plated bullets are just that , they are electro plated of some form & have no jacket as we know a normal jacketed bullets do. Most jacketed bullets are started as a copper cup & the lead is swaged in or poured in in some way . If you want speed , go with the solid bullets , they don't come apart . You will have to experiment with different loadings & bullets to come out with what you are looking for . Some manufacturers even have ten Pak's of bullets just for working up loads .I have never loaded for the 22-250 ,but know its a ground cong killer ,I have seen them work on them varmints.
  15. You can't go wrong with a Geissle trigger IMO also . the drop in complete units are good also. As said above , the barrel, ammo , trigger & you, will make or break a good shooting rifle. There are a lot of good barrel makers out there for the DPMS format, look into my favorite , Fulton Armory. There Krieger Criterion barrels are top of the line or one of them IMO & they also sell the std height, railed upper receivers also .
  16. Where did you guy's pick it up at ?
  17. You will, probably shrink your group size with match ammo & I shoot 100 yrds all the time with my match hand loads , its how you build a load & hone your trigger skills . Good work , except for no photo's .
  18. Compressed loads are OK , to a point . I have to get some of the SMK & the Nosler 125's to try out ,but I'm not trying to move my bullets at light speed ether . <laughs>
  19. This just keeps getting better . I had a gut feeling this cartridge would not die off . My first wild cat & glad I jumped on it . I have always liked the idea of this round.
  20. Such wisdom , it gets my vote also. I have one question , why a adj. gas block for a hunting rifle ? The only thing it would do is restrict gas flow, not some thing you want with a hunting rifle . If your rifle doesn't function correctly with a certain type /manufacturer ammo , I would stay away from it . Your gas system is wide open now , restricting it may cause problems .
  21. You can shoot both ,no matter what it reads on the barrel . Some DPMS 308 barrels are a little tight in the chamber & I believe its more of a rough chamber causing problems chambering a 7.62x 51 in there 308 chambered barrels any way. Your 308 head space gages will work , its what I use .
  22. It just means we talk too much . <thumbsup>
  23. You can take some off the stop portion one the bolt catch itself , so it will sit higher with mag follower tension . I'm going to assume you are using a 308 bolt catch. You cam PM me if you want & I think I did a post on it here because I had the same problem with my CMMG lower. I always order extra gas tubes & pins , so I have extras around . I also have a bunch of those repair kits with lots of detent springs , so I don't have to lot for one right away , I have been pretty good lately with out them going into orbit . There it was only half jacked .
