  1. So the UBR is the winner ( a tank of a stock ) I like it also , but it is the weight of a tank also. Really looks like they all lost , in a way . Nice to see some one do a test like that & the $$ to put into it .
  2. Quote from 1986 amendment for gun control act of 1968 and national firearms act. The term " any part " kinda stands out . I'm sure & I will look it up , but having a complete SBR upper( and a AR 15 lower around it & no tax stamp ) would probably read about the same . I'm not trying to scare any one , just trying to help keep the uninformed out of trouble .
  3. Can you show a photo of the wear makes on the receiver extension ? Might have some thing to do with function problems. A lot of these problems can be related to machining tolerances between two different manufactures( upper /lower ). Yes CMMG changed there lowers that are assembled on there new line of 308 rifles. Also look on page three , # 36 post on this thread & you will see the difference in cartridge height & the Pmag ,mag catch position & it is why I am having bolt over on my CMMG . The DPMS & CProducts mags sit higher in my older CMMG lower & that's why they feed correctly . The Pmag is low enough to let the bolt pass over or have the carrier grab the round & mangle it . Its probably tolerance stacking as was discussed in this thread . They probably moved the mag catch up a hair to accommodate the Pmag. on the new lowers, just a guess .
  4. There is a long list of them some where on this sight . Brownells may have videos on them on there sight, I know they do for flash suppressors . Make sure you use barrel blocks to remove or install any muzzle device.
  5. Normal break in wear , wait till you get a close look at you cam pin . You will think its cracked , but they will be wear marks on it also . Nice to see you use grease on the bolt lugs for break in .
  6. Lets hope they are not counting on that .I think as long as money is being made , they will keep them going . Money talks & politician's come & go .
  7. Those are not rumors , just have a M16 selector , M 16 disconnector & an AR 15 receiver in the same place when the BATFE is in your house & you will see how the rumors turn out . An SBR is no different in the eye's of the BATFE. Both Title II weapons. I am also not trying make a legal thing of this , just common sense. Send your muzzle device to them & have it attached before they send it to you . I was a class one & three FFL dealer for almost twenty years & in today's environment , I would be even more careful.
  8. She kinda turns me on now , looking like that ! <laughs> Once you inject Commiewood in to real life , it gets ugly.
  9. Its always going to be less expensive to buy a complete rifle & 1K can get you close to one , but since you have a 80% lower already , that is not an option for you. The end result will be you will have your rifle ,the way you want it & it will just cost you more . With good glass , you should be saying , " how wicked can two thousand be" ?
  10. Kinda wonder if they can do that legally , because that makes it a SBR . As soon as you get it & have ANY lower it can be put on , its a complete rifle . That would make you in possesion of a unregistered SBR . Having just the barrel & not attached to a receiver , is some thing else . Just some thing to look into . For your own good & maybe there's .
  11. If you want a good spring set up , get a Superior spring (Tubbs ) spring to try out . I have one in my 16" 308 & it will change your mind about springs & the effect they have on the performance of a AR. First , there is no noise , of course . The ejected case's drop right where they should & in a neat pile. I have to do a Chrono test this year for the difference in bullet velocities between the two springs , because the say it should increase with the Superior spring co. spring .( longer lock time ) We will see, when I get the time .
  12. Looking at some of the sales rags I get , one in particular Midway , I see a lot more reloading dies & such for the 300BLK . Lee & Redding having jumped in & I will bet that the others will soon follow . I'm going to a 200 yd range Sunday & may take my 300BLK just to see how she does.
  13. The way I look at it is , I would sacrifice a little in the group size & have the ammo feed reliably. Whats good about reloading is , you can experiment with your loads , you do not have as much flexability with factory ammo.
  14. Man, that's a great photo, but now I can't see his good enough to tell if its the same . Damn my old eyes ! <laughs>
  15. If you are in one of the states that have shot gun only for deer hunting , that stock will be very welcome . I have what is called a designated slug gun ( DSG ) for deer hunting , mine has a Hastings rifled bbl. with integral scope mount & I pratice some times @ 200 yrds, just to see what my sabot 12ga. ammo will do . You will be surprised at the out come with the right sabot slug ammo at longer ranges . Of course mostly where I hunt in Ohio , you will not shoot close to that range , but it shows what a DSG is capable of . 2010 season I shot a buck & dropped him @ 158 yrds. You won't do that with a smooth bore , but the rifled bbl's. will just amaze you . That stock is right up my ally & hope it will be out for this year ,because I will fit one to my 870 mag that is the base for my DSG..
  16. Could be a wet dream , they were always nice . <laughs> I will be putting Geissele triggers in a couple more of my AR's .
  17. The photo doesn't show up for me .
  18. The village idiots won't need all them there new fangled Picatinny rails , but its nice to see the German STG 44 of WWII, come into the twentieth century .
  19. I like my MBUS's, on my 16 " , its the only sights on there & they seem to work fine .
  20. Ya can't go wrong with the two choices . The difference between the 50 & the 56 will be field of view & light gathering capabilities, being the 56 will have the higher numbers than the 50. Same magnification on both scopes . You may want to check another forum that deals with very long range shooting to get some tips on which they all prefer. The 56 mm objective will make you think about a scope mount & clearance , give Larue a call , I'm sure they have some thing & will help you chose the one that best fits your needs. Both scopes are top of the line in my book , I too , can't afford one . ( well I could ,but can't justify the price, but I'm not shooting 1K yrds. )
  21. Its odd I've only had one rifle that I've heard that noise.I can not recall hearing it in any of the rifles I now own . A fix for a non existing problem & not time tested or battle proved . Not that , Battle proved really means much , for a bench rifle or safe queen , but time is another thing. Nothing wrong with a safe queen , the rifles or hand guns I do not take to the range that day are all safe queens . I believe that noise is a spring binding problem of some sort . Could be something in the receiver extension , buffer or the spring its self .
  22. If you are not having problems with factory ammo , it is more than likely is the reload configuration ( bullet ) being not compatible with the mag.. DPMS mags can be tweaked to make them work with any reload combo , the feed lips need to be angled up a little more . Brownells sells a tool to do this ,but can be accomplished with a pair on needle nose pliers , if you are careful , it doesn't take much to make them work or screw them up worse . I have a solid copper bullet that has the same problem with some mags , you can also shorten the COL a little at a time to test . Make a dummy round & seat the bullet in deeper a little at a time & you may find a sweet spot ( col ) for that bullet . It may or may not affect accuracy . Or buy a Pmag.
  23. The screws are staked in place . The old method was three punch marks around the screw heads ,evenly spaced . The new method is on the out side of the screw head forcing carrier material against the screw head . There is a hand press out there some where that uses a vice like fixture to do this . I still use some kind of punch. Some use loc tite also , insted of staking . When I looked up that torque setting , I read a note next to it that read , "make sure bolt carrier is supported when staking , a bent carrier can result if not doing so ", what would some one use to stake the key screws , a sledge hammer ? AHH ,but it is an Army manual . 1968 vintage.
  24. According to TM9-1005-249-34 Tech. manual its 35-40 inch pounds.
