DPMS308 FEEDING PROBLEMS
survivalshop replied to charlie52usaf's topic in DPMS LR-308 General, Technical Discussion
I also have been looking at that product , but saying that , CLP and in some places ,gun slick , don't have any lube problems . -
I have always checked head space ,even If I buy a used AR type rifle . Ya check to make sure the safety & fire control system works , why not head space !

Can this trigger be got in a 3 -4 # for a 308 ? I have to admit ,I have never used a two stag trigger system & don't have a problem with a single stage . Although I can see the advantages of a two stage , I'm an old dog & I do not like new tricks any more .

DPMS 308 SASS Barrel and Gas Block Issue
survivalshop replied to imschur's topic in DPMS LR-308 General, Technical Discussion
Just by looks , it appears the gas tube hole in the sass gas block is twice as high as std . gas holes in std .936 blocks. That would mean the gas tube would be of a different configuration compared to a std gas tube. Reconfiguring a gas tube is not a big deal. They wanted a specific barrel configuration and made a different gas block & reconfigured ( bent ) a gas tube . The only thing here that is really of importance is the gas block change to make the gas tube come out higher to clear the barrel. That is unless the barrel extension flange is also higher than std. , then you would need some reconfiguring of the upper receiver gas tube opening (higher ) , which I don't think they did , because people are building with the newer rail height with no problems . They could have a special gas tube made up for that configuration also. Its just S/S tubing & you can bend them any way you want , with some restrictions of course. -
Again , still learning . Getting more interesting by the day . I see why so many posters want parts compatibility lists . It might take a while to make one up & than you would probably add to it weekly. How can we make one up here & just add to it ,than make a final list ? There's one started on hand guards.

I'm in on one for a 308. There, I made my mind up on a trigger ! Is there going to be a new thread on this group buy ?

Its amazing ,that it will take me a month getting ready for a week long hunt . I just loaded up some 44mag. for practice & got the DSG (designated slug gun )ready to test fire , just to make sure it is printing the same . Just love the trigger job by Bill springfield , so it should be spot on . I have made a different loading (added one grain more of 2400 ) for the Anaconda & will see how she does. In my # 1 stand ,I can shoot up to 200yrds, so the slug gun will be with me the first day & the anaconda the rest of the week . Can't wait , just not thrilled about the 13 hr. drive.

Now that makes sense , an out of spec lower . Send it to the manufacturer.( as they ,Iron ridge , pointed out , by the way.)

The std . barrel nut wrenches are for DPMS or Armilite type barrel nuts. There is a wrench out there that has both wrench ends to accommodate ether one . But , as said above , when you get into free float hand guards , they open a whole new can of worms for wrenches. I have heard of some using the Magpul MOE hand guards with some modifications to it , but no personal experience with it . The AR 15/16 bolt stop will work ,but the one for the 308 has a larger foot to accommodate the larger 308 bolt . You will also notice the different spring location for the take down pin. Some thread that hole for a plug & cut down the spring or you can cut it a little & be careful putting your pistol grip on . Why does no one make one for the 308's ? (They put or mold the hole in it for the safety detent ! )

About half way done with my build!!!
survivalshop replied to TacBlade's topic in DPMS LR-308 General, Technical Discussion
Nope , didn't measure it , but did have a drill bit in it to measure the distance from the hole to the barrel shoulder. Just don't remember the drill bit size . I know it was in between two of them & I had to use the smaller one to take my measurement. I will measure it ,if I take the gas block off again. My 16" HB kicks more than my 20 " HB , but I have a brake on the 20" & just a FS on the 16" & its not bad at all. -
Max effective range from 16 and 18 in barrel
survivalshop replied to chriss1727's topic in General Discussion
You will have no problem having enough energy to down game, or humans for that matter, out to 600 yrds. There have been confermed kills on humans out past 1000 yrds. ,but most give 800 yrds as effective range for the 308/762x51. Of course at those ranges , is all with the right bullet, rifle , optics & the most important , the shooter . Next year I will be taking my 16 & 20 " to a 500 yr. range ,just to see what the 16 " will do as far as accuracy . I have no doubt at all the bullets will perform out that far .( as long as you can hit what your aiming for . As said above , there is not much difference between 18 & 16" barrels . There's a bunch of people shooting 16" out that far. -
That's been up on there sight for quite some time . The price always made me look else where . <dontknow>

DPMS 308 SASS Barrel and Gas Block Issue
survivalshop replied to imschur's topic in DPMS LR-308 General, Technical Discussion
They is no alteration to the gas tube passage in the upper ,just the rail height difference . For them to change the gas tube passage in the upper , you would have to also change or alter the carrier key. Any thing that DPMS does now would not surprise me . I am concerned with ,if they raised the gas tube height for it to fit into a higher then normal gas block to clear a higher than normal barrel , what kind of angle does the gas tube have going into the upper. Are they being bent to keep it aliened with the key? (that's if they didn't alter the normal spec's on the gas tube passage in the upper & carrier key) Or are they doing this just to keep there stuff ,there stuff . Another idea could be a piston system coming ? Conversions any one ? -
That's correct. Hows the head space?

I was an FFL class three & one dealer for over twenty years and never heard of a problem with them . I can't count how many I sold to satisfied customers. Seems like the anti gunners will resort to any thing to put down the firearm manufactures. Now doesn't George Soros (or what ever that POS name is )own that network , ummmm? Another thing is , they are taking a lot of what past employee's say out of context, like "this could be dangerous " , that could mean any thing . Such sensationalism is what the ENTERTAINMENT industry is all about . I do feel for the father ,but think his grief is being used by the anti gunners ,as usual. Note ; did it say the fathers young son, where was the father when this happened ?
