  1. Well ,what about us ? <thumbsup> We need them too ! <dontknow> How does one get in touch with him to make one ,if possable ?
  2. So , the tool has a shim in it to do 5.56 & with out the shim for 7.62 BC ? Are your photo's of a 5.56 or a 7.62 BC ? I do mine the old fashioned way ,but I like the proper tools to do things. Wow , I just looked at the other two posts. Are you going to have this tool for sale ?
  3. When I ordered my Chrome one Friday , they found four , now its really down to three.

    Crimping

I light taper crimp all rifle ammo I load . Crimp grove or not ,you only need a light crimp .
  5. Have you shot that 16" yet ? I have one about three days away from test firing. Fulton Armory ,Med. Wt.,16" bbl. with rifle gas system.
  6. Na, its because gun writers are terrorists & ATF just wants to know what guns they have. The back door control ,conspiracy theory makes some possable sense . Gun shows next ? Sounds more like was said above , closing a loop hole ( for now ).
  7. Welcome to the big bore AR club ,if its your first. Its a disease & the only cure is more ammo.
  8. Ya ,no hurry ,I can always use a spare,so I'm in if it can happen. JSE only has three Chrome BC 's in stock now ,they shipped mine yesterday . It seems when she looked ,there were four , not three in stock.
  9. That's some nice rings . I have found that if you lap & alien your rings , they should fit perfectly . No need for special engineering on a set of rings. All scope tubes should be close to perfectly round & if your rings are aliened & perfectly round , there should not be a fitment problem.
  10. As long as you are keeping the carbine receiver extension ,buffer spring & buffer , it should work. Some say you need special buffers & springs , but the only way you will know that is at the range after fitment . I went the other way, I have a 16" bbl. ,with rifle gas system & CTR stock & I have the carbine buffer /spring ,of course , but will not be firing it for the first time till next week .
  11. The decapping pin did not work as well as I wanted it to . When I tightened up the bbl. nut ,the hand guard nut put some pressure on the rod & I didn't want the HG nut to move at all . The decapping rod is 0.185 in dia. at the shank . I had another rod that was 0.195 and worked just fine . Every thing is in perfect alignment & I can not budge the HG nut . Will post some photos when I get a chance.
  12. I need one to finish my build & have the money for one , but what kind of deal are we going to get ? Also how long will we have to wait for them once ordered ? I can get a Chromed one for $250 & an phosphate one for $ 210. Yes they are DPMS & I believe that's what FA sells ,because mine is from FA & has a "D" on it which is supposed to mean DPMS.( at least that's what I've been told ) Interested ,Yes.
  13. The tool is great , but it is tight on the DPMS uppers rail. I had to use it backwards of the instructions to put the rail on the Fulton Armory(YHM ) hand guard. It fits perfact on the SI Defence upper ,as you can see ,the proper fitment of the tool in the photo. It is not tightened down yet for proper install of the rail.Photo just for reference.
  14. The DPMS is 1.306 the full length of the upper . My digital caliper has a low battery & was flashing ,very hard to get measurement and take the photo when it was showing a reading .You can see the difference in the photo . The DPMS is the top one of course . The SI Defence is wider at the mag well.
  15. I finally got time to see if I could lap the hand guard nut to fit up tight against the upper . It did not take much lapping with 600 grit to get it there . It seemed to only take off surface ridges & the Finnish was not taken off at all . You can see in the following photo's that its a nice fit . The full length rail has the screw holes slotted for forward & back adj. ,so no need to take any thing off of it . I use the Brownell's rail alignment tool to make sure it GTG. I have a used decaping rod from a RCBS rifle die ,I found is almost a perfect fit for the gas tube hole through the upper & hand guard nut and can use it to check for bbl. nut alignment also I will post when I get time to assemble the barrel .The only wrench that will fit this bbl. nut is the YHM . I have the combo ,DPMS/AR10,but they don't fit .I remember the problems I had with the Fulton Armory hand guard . It was nice to have a wrench & not have to improvise.
  16. I would buy another SI defence in a heart beat . They are made from billet , if you are into that & the price reflects that . Still the Gen. II wo/FA & III w/FA are not crazy. Is Tactical Machine making 308 uppers ?
  17. My rail should be here today ,so I can assemble the upper. Look how close the Vtac is to being aliened & up against my upper . My referance to the monolithic upper was just a comparison on why wouldn't the Vtac work fitted tight against the upper receiver . It should not interfear with the fee float bbl. & the benifit IMO would be a stronger upper assem.. Being the hand guard is just not supported by the upper threads ,but the rail will tell me how it will go together. Or I might have to take a little off of it . <thumbsup>
  18. And in your opinion ,what round & rifle did you have in mind ? I remember hanging out with my dad & all his buddy's a the local VFW post 451 & listen to there war stories (WWII ) They did not have any thing good to say about the M1 carbine . The marines that were issued the 1903&A3's said they would kill to get an M 1 Garrand that the Army guys had & that's understandable ,bolt gun for a semi any thing. My dad was a Sargent & carried a Tomson sub & had mixed feelings about it . One was it marked him for being some thing other than a PFC . I have nothing against the modern M16 class of rifles . They kill the enemy & you can't ask for any thing better than that , but they as like any rifle has its strengths & weaknesses. The 5.56 was really made for a 20 " bbl. it was designed around it . When they made them shorter for CQB it took away the effective range , pure & simple. When talking about 40 -60 more rounds , why not 100 more or 200 more 5 more ,1 more , there's always going to be in a situation, if about ammo " if I only had more ammo".
  19. He did my Remington 870 slug gun I use to hunt with in Ohio . It is a beautiful thing. I sent it with over a seven pound pull & rough ,to clean four pound every time . The buck I took this past season was a testament to the need for a good trigger. It was a long difficult shot .
  20. Have you compared the DPMS upper measurements to the SI Defence . If not I can Measure my DPMS upper for ya in the same way.
  21. The problem with the 9MM is not the round ,its the projectile . The 9MM does quite well with HV HP's . The fmj is just a hole puncher, yes you have a lot of them in modern mags , but you got to hit the right spot . We all know the military will not use HP ammo because of the Geniva convention . I would like to see those same tests with the new offerings of 45 ACP . The new XDM 4.5 in 45ACP will be on dealer shelf next month & 13+1 is my kind of hand cannon. The whole thing about ,how much ammo you can carrie is moot, because with out support to replenish it you will be fighting hand to hand in short order in an extended fire fight or get out of Dodge! The M14 had its draw backs , light full bore combat rifle for its day & with its semi pistol grip wood stock , it was not set up for full auto . Now compare it to the BAR , the weight of the BAR made it controlable . The FN with proper training can be fired from full auto & controlable ,with its more straight line stock & pistol grip. Ya know the M16 is light and humping it around the jungle was like you had nothing in your hand ,but that rifle, because of a lot of reasons back then ,killed a lot of our troops just by not working. I don't remember any one telling me that carried the M1 Garrand in WWII ,in the jungle, that it was too heavy or you could not carrie enough ammo . In a sustained fire fight ammo is always going to be a problem , that's what logistics is for .
  22. Sure , the back area above the trigger area is sloped in toward the lower receiver & is aprox. 1.085 " .That measurement goes all the way till it tapers out to meet the receiver extenion atachment point on the lower receiver. At the mag well ,its 1.606 ". I have a CMMG lower. I can never seem to get enough light.
  23. Is this guy trying to get the 6.5 or 6.8 into the mix ? I know the 6.8 fans would like to hear that . The 7.62x51 would still be my choice in an AR type platform . Not saying the 6. what ever ,round is not a good round ,but you will put it at the edge of its termanal ballistics also . The 7.62x51 gives you some room.
  24. Its a work of art & must of took some time & engineering to make ,is the only thing I can thionk of. I did ask them why it was so high compared to others on the market & never got an answer . They came out with the Ge. II not long after & then the Gen II just came out . I'm happy with my Gen. II ,much better made than the DPMS offerings & made from billet . If I knew they were going to come out with the Gen. II ,I would have waited , even though I don't think the FA is needed ,I'm kinda used to them.
  25. Well your gunsmiths left some thing out of that equation , the DI gas system on AR's is fool proof for the most part . No special tools to time the bolt & operating rod ,not to mention the piston part of the Operating rod that has to be fitted properly. Of course that's how gunsmiths make there bread & butter . You can build an AR 308 with very few special tools & fitting . The FN & M14 type rifles are great rifles & the FN is well battle proved ,but its there adaptability that's leaves them behind comparing with the AR 308 type rifles .
