I had to testify in a first degree murder trial yesterday morning.
The defendent, Charles Edward Chambers, invaded a man's home in June 2011, attacked him and stabbed him to death.
He stole the victim's jewelry and car.
Chambers then stopped at our pawn shop immediately following the murder and pawned the victim's chain with me for $300.
The defendant's DNA, left at the scene, led local police and Federal Marshalls to the killer which led them to us and the victim's DNA on the chain connected the chain to the victim.
My part was to link the accused to the chain, which was easy seeing the killer provided his signature and right thump print, as required by law, on the pawn form.
I just needed to testify so the pawn form, chain and pawn envelope could be entered into evidence.
The State Attorney, Chris Moody, called me this mornring to tell me that after two hours of deliberation the jury found Charles Chambers guilty on all counts and to thank me for my testimony.
I'm glad it worked out and I was of service to the system.
