I've been reading up on the .224 Valkyrie, just because I may want to try building something new (to replace all the guns that fell into the lake in that boating accident.) This was an interesting article on barrel length versus velocity. A cursory look at the data indicated to me the velocity began to drop off below 22" in length, however, a more detailed look may be in order. If I ever get around to building one of these, I'll probably stick to a 22" barrel just to be a little more convenient to tote around. The more I read about this cartridge, the more it seems to have teething pains. Many users report they can either get high velocity and poorer accuracy, or better accuracy and lower velocities. Also, a lot of folks mention crushing powders when reloading and pressure problems showing up when using the recommended charges and the recommended case OAL. Guys are getting better accuracy using longer than the recommended COAL numbers. Varget seems to be the powder that produces more consistent and better results, but any of the medium-burn powders used in the .308 gas guns seems to work. When finally worked out, this cartridge is going to be the cat's meow. https://rifleshooter.com/2018/02/224-valkyrie-effect-of-barrel-length-on-velocity/

Any age will work. Just report how many stitches you acquire. Could be an age related thing.

When you're over seventy, who cares? I was standing at the bar at the VFW one night minding my own business. This FAT ugly chick came up behind me, grabbed my behind and said, "You're kinda cute. You gotta phone number?" I said, "Yeah, you gotta pen?" She said, "Yeah, I got a pen". I said, "You better get back in it before the farmer misses you." Cost me 6 stitches...but, When you’re over seventy..............who cares? ********** I went to the drug store and told the clerk "Give me 3 packets of condoms, please." Lady Clerk: "Do you need a paper bag with that, sir?”; I said "Nah... She's purty good lookin'....." When you’re over seventy..............who cares? *********** I was talking to a young woman in the VFW last night. She said, "If you lost a few pounds, had a shave and got your hair cut, you'd look all right.”; I said, “If I did that, I'd be talking to your friends over there instead of you.”; Cost me a fat lip, but... When you’re over seventy..............who cares? ********** I was telling a woman in the Club about my ability to guess what day a woman was born just by feeling her breasts. "Really" she said, "Go on then... try." After about thirty seconds of fondling she began to lose patience and said, "Come on, what day was I born?" I said, "Yesterday." Cost me a kick in the nuts, but... When you’re over seventy...............who cares? ********* I got caught taking a pee in the swimming pool today. The lifeguard shouted at me so loud, I nearly fell in. When you’re over seventy...............who cares? ********** I went to our VFW last night and saw a BIG woman dancing on a table. I said, "Good legs." The girl giggled and said, "Do you really think so?" I said, "Definitely! Most tables would have collapsed by now." Cost me 6 more stitches, but.. When you’re over seventy..............who cares?

Best low profile adjustable gas block?
mineralman55 replied to Sharpshooter's topic in General Discussion
SLR is a superb adjustable gas block, but if you can find one, the Syrac Gen2 is ever better. -
Been doing some more digging around about the .224 Valk. Maybe some teething pains. Seems that as more reports come in there are problems with accuracy/consistency of results, and there have been more than some difficulties in reloading. I'm still interested, but at this moment, there are better things to spend my money on. I hope people get the bugs worked out.

I like the giraffes. Still not sure what they're peddling.

What do you have on order or in the mail? Part 2

PSA has their AR15 BCG on sale. I bought two nitrided BGCs for $49.95/each. You can't buy the bolt alone for that. Always good to have spares. -
I've got several ACS magazines (20 rounders) in .308. Flawless action. Never had a problem with them.

Hope chapter 3 is better than the second movie. That was disappointing.

I'm not a power user of FB, so don't know the idiocyncracies. Here ya' go.

My wife posted this on her FB page, and it moved me to post it here. Scroll down a touch and you'll get the article. LEOs have the worst of all worlds, and yet they do their job with class and decorum. God bless police everywhere. Mineral I actually deleted the link cuz it goes straight to your wife’s Facebook account upon login.

Merry Christmas to all my favorite barbarians! You're the best!

Seeing this thread makes me itch to break out the M14s. It's been a while.

Electronic versus Manual combination safes.
mineralman55 replied to Sisco's topic in Gear & Accessories
Interesting, as I've been looking at getting a gun safe for my daughter and her husband so I've been looking at this stuff recently. Liberty is a good bet, particularly the Centurion Series. I spent a lot of time with the salesman talking about the locks. I have a simple Sargent and Greenleaf combo lock on my Ft. Knox. Works just fine, no battery to run down. He said stay away from the Chinese-made safes, as they were really inferior, and very easy to break into. He also said avoid any locking mechanism with a "back up" key. They weren't very secure. Otherwise, quality mechanical or electronic locks are just a personal preference. Both are good. Good place to start: www.gunsafes.com -
My son wants a Sig 320x. I'm not familiar with this model at all. Anyone got some advice on buying the Sig320? Where to get one, what mods NEED to be made to it, etc.

I thought I would too after retiring. You can count on three fingers how many times i've been to the range since retiring. Geez, where does the time go?

I was at Gunport in Coden, AL the other day. Gary has the last one of these receivers, built by Ted Brown with all GI parts, on sale. It's a beaut!

Not that I'm an expert, but I've built (with a friend's help) two M1s and one M14 with Criterion barrels. Beautiful barrels, but all NEED to be headspaced because Criterion makes them that way. They're too tight, and need to be reamed just a little to be properly headspaced.

As far as reloading for the 7.62/.308, it simply isn't necessary to use a small base sizing die, but if it makes you feel better, go ahead. I've used an RCBS standard sizing die for 5 different semi auto rifles, and all function just fine. Just make sure the resized brass fits into a case gauge properly. I've used lots of different brands of brass (still using some IMI 30-06 brass I bought in the 80s. Fantastic stuff!) and have never had a problem using 1x-fired military brass, even if it was fired from a machine gun. I'll continue using it. Just follow good reloading procedures and you'll be fine.

Kelly Kicking Cancer had our 4th annual gala this past week, and it was a big success. We changed the venue to a reception center in town. Food was great, venue was great, energy and participation was great, and we had comedienne Marvin Lee was a hit! He had people rolling on the floor with his routines, and they were all clean, no PC. He's a genius. We raised over $17k that night alone. Many donations came in prior to the event, and still more are coming in. We'll probably get close to $30k from this event for brain cancer research when all is said and done. Marvin is a recurring character on "The Walking Dead", and he auctioned a few items from the set to help us out. We also had a Saints football signed by Drew Brees and Sean Payton which fetched a bunch of $$$. Check out our blog and research pages. www.kellykickingcancer.org

Let's just hope this clown's actions removed his fat-assed genes from the gene pool... permanently.

Yeah, a 30-06 would make a lot of sense. I already have everything needed to reload for it, and anything a .308 can do a 30-06 can do better. Would be cool for the Garand to have a great-great grandson.

Then just realize that OUR children will be the de facto leaders because the way we rear them will prepare them for the challenges to come. I think it's just as bad that newspapers, social media and other entities give such cute names for these idiot parents, almost making their irresponsible actions acceptable. They're wusies, rearing wussy kids.

I figured. Just pulling your chain.
