  1. Got any guides/names of outfits that specialize in bear hunting? This could be a great excuse to get another rifle. ^-^
  2. Whooo, a 600 lb anything falling out of a tree sounds dangerous. Sounds like a .308 would work.
  3. I want to go bear hunting, but not small ones. I'd like to get a large one. Can anyone turn me in the right direction for quality bear hunting, guides, experiences, caliber needed, etc? My purpose is to get a large, quality rug out of him (a promise made to my son). I'm not really interested in the meat, I'd just as soon give that away. Enlighten me.
  4. I rely on multiple charts to find a beginning load, and I lean heavily on Sierra's charts as they seem to be the most "accurate" for me. I've checked my scale multiple times with independent weights to see if it is off, but it's not. 41 grains of TAC was getting to be too much, as pressure signs were beginning, the recoil was more than I liked, and the groups were beginning to degrade. Cross my fingers, but with 39 grains of TAC I have perfect functioning, and the accuracy is great. That's why I cautioned start low and work up. What works optimally for one rifle may not work for another. That's what the joy (and frustration) of reloading is all about. Just keep good records (but you knew all this, right?) Regardless, TAC is a superb powder for our AR308s. BTW, 98Z5V, I regularly bother the good folks at Accurate/Ramshot/Western Powder asking about AA2520. They take it in stride, but their most recent reply was "the powder is at the manufacturer and should be ready by late spring or early summer." We can only hope.
  5. Dr. Krisoff is a true American. Too bad the video is introduced by a left wing POS.
  6. Make sure you work it up from a minimum. Some of my friends' rifles (M14s) use upwards of 42 grains of TAC under the 168 BTHP Sierras. I couldn't even approach that amount, but they run their reloads real hot and I don't beat up my rifles or myself that way. The only powder I would prefer to TAC is AA2520, but I haven't seen that in almost three years.
  7. Try these guys. Not "clamshells" but the next step up IMO. www.plastixrevolution.net If the link doesn't work, google plastixrevolution
  8. Ditto on the TAC. It's a great powder for 7.62x51. 39 grains under a 168 BTHP 2.800" LOA has been a real winner in everything. It's been somewhere between acceptable and respectable in the 5.56 23.3 grains under a 77 grain BTHP in a 1:8 barrel for me. Feeds like water from a Uniflo and burns very clean.
  9. Those vise blocks are nice, aren't they? You're a good forum citizen. First post, you mention an item and you already fulfilled THE RULE. Outstanding! Now we need pics.
  10. I read the book twice and don't recall that anywhere in the book Further, I lived thru Katrina. There were no snipers on the roof of the Superdome or anywhere else downtown.
  11. /\ /\ /\ That looks like the French Quarter every day. Somethings you can't "unsee".
  12. A friend of mine works at a business underneath that bridge. She said no one was injured, but one of the train cars landed on a brand new Camero and flattened it! Oh well, never liked Cameros anyway. :))
  13. These prices are almost unbelievable. I'm glad to see the prices down. I wonder if some of the manufacturers of specialty uppers and lowers will drop their prices as a result? http://www.wikiarms.com/group/ar10rifles
  14. Welcome aboard. Great food in S.A., Hill Country west of there is gorgeous!
  15. Sorry, I don't speak dogface, so I looked it up. Not usable.
  16. Welcome from the swamps. That is one good looking build... clean, purposeful, direct. I'm looking forward to your first range report, and in particular how your comp/flash guard works.
  17. Welcome. You ever eat at Neptune's? Or the Sassy Bass? The latter's country gravy is to (almost) die for.
  18. I emailed them when they first presented their 80% lowers online. They never answered me. If someone can't be bothered to reply a purchase inquiry then they don't need my money.
  19. Rail guns like that and their competitions were a big part of the range I used to frequent in west TX. It was fascinating! Reloading their rounds right there on the spo, these guys tried to eliminate as many variables as possible to result in the tightest group, even waiting for the crosswind to cease across the entire range, then get off five rounds in <<<10 seconds. Is it shooting, it sure is! Is it for me? Nah. Don't have the patience or money to indulge in it.
  20. Interesting how stupid people like to present their stupidity for all the world to see. Once again, this demonstrates some people should not procreate much less vote.
  21. Yep. For now, but you all know firearms are like horsepower or money... more is always better.
  22. Congrats! Sometimes it is good to get what you want.
  23. BTW, some of the restaurants in S.A. are fantastic. I ate at the CIA... Culinary Institute of America. Student chefs working on their degrees in their own restaurant at night. Great food, great atmosphere, reasonable price.
  24. /\ /\ /\ This was a great call! About 30 minutes out of downtown. Beautiful area, I could retire there. Not really a gun store, but a reloading warehouse and distribution center. I drove out and spent an hour talking with Keith about this and that. They have lots of powder, mostly for shotgun and pistol. I scored the last keg of Varget for a great price. Keith said he had 6 last Saturday. They go fast. We talked about the powder manufacturers and why no one, NO ONE, seems to be able to get certain powders. He too was at a loss. Still, I made another friend, he'll get my business in the future.
  25. And the whiskey distillery. Can't miss that!
