  1. Maybe, but it is in excellent shape. I am going to fiddle with it and see if I can make it work before picking up a new buffer/spring. That will be an option though. When I pull the charging handle back manually on an empty slide, it will not catch, so it has to be a clearance problem, not a lack of energy to pull the bolt back. It cycles beautifully.
  2. Tried it out at the range today with some M855 green tip. It ran flawlessly except it would not lock back on an empty magazine. I only had one magazine with, so I will have to see what happens with a different one, but I am guessing the BCG is going back far enough to chamber, but not quite far enough to lock open. Any quick fixes? Thinking I might try unscrewing the buffer tube one turn and retightening the stock ring to see if that allows it.

Thought I had clearance, but the charging handle did indeed hit the cheek piece at the range today. It would still cycle into battery. When I came home I took 1/8 of material off the front of the cheek piece with my trusty Dremel. Problem solved. Moved my scope forward a bit so I had to re-sight the rifle. Played around with the PA 1X6. Put it on 1 x magnification, lighted the reticule and tried a string of 10 rapid fire shots in a 25 mph cross wind from the left. With that wind I was not going to get any good groups after sighting in anyway. Still decently accurate for rapid fire.
  5. Think I will pass. I can just see the National Enquirer headlines. " Old Fart in Northern Wisconsin dies when he chokes on a canned chicken bone! IT WAS FOR A CONTEST! HE SAYS WITH HIS LAST BREATH"
  6. Secret to long life right there. Prevention of type II diabetes and a bunch of other stuff. Except bacon. Don't know if I can give up bacon. Will stop by our wally world today and see if they have a canned chicken.
  7. I like it! Seriously considering this for my AR10 rifle http://woodforar.com/walnut-rifle-grade-a/
  8. Very interesting. Some of the advance reticle concepts coming out now are really impressive. It would be interesting to hear Afghan Vets opinion on the idea.
  9. No barrel, just the upper receiver.
  10. PM me when you are ready. The original Plinker Plus has basically an A1 upper. It has A1 sights, would be very tough to distinguish. I will give you a nice price.
  11. It has always been a good shooter, never jams, so I hope the switch to a carbine buffer configuration doesn't screw it up. If it does I may put the old stock /buffer back on.
  12. Just talked to the State director of CMP. He thought quite a bit less. I will have my paperwork done and.ready to be.sent when it happens, just in case.
  13. This is a scrap bin makeover. Had an old style Olympic Arms Plinker Plus 5,56 floating around for years. Cost me $429 new way back when. Picked up a delton upper reciever fir $39 online a year ago and swapped out the carry handle reciever. When Walmart got out of the black rifle accesory business I picked up a MFD six position stock, a picatiny rail handguard and a vertical grip for $60 total. Found a six position carbine buffer and spring used for $10 at a gun show. Got the rear sight and the reflex sight for $20 at a garage sale. Got $558 in it so far. Taking.it.to the range this week to see.how it shoots.
  14. JT's advice is the safest way to go. Also Armalite's barrels and BCG's are very high quality. You wouldn't be losing anything going that route.
  15. On the CMP website, they have a notice dated 11/22/17 that due to the high demand and limited number, they have not decided yet how the 1911's will be sold.
  16. Nice job Scraper! Cook it well.
  17. Let us know if you get it.
  18. Holy crud! Did it ever! My LGS had a Ruger 1911 in 10mm, Target sights, for $739! I was too slow.

  20. Not a much of a builder myself, but as an owner of a Radical Firearms 300 Blk AR I can testify to their quality level. At $89.00 for a 308 BCG that is a steal.

Stuffed our 16 pound butterball with my stuffing recipe, rubbed down outside with olive oil and five bacon strips on top to keep juicy. 4 hours at 325F. Was perfect.

  24. Welcome from up north. For hunting you can go with a light barrel which will take a bit of weight off. Might not be as accurate for the third or fouth shot but for hunting that isn’t an issue. This might be a place to start, or even end. http://dpms-gii.com/full.html#configurations
