Look back in the archives, Mrraley had some good discussions,on,piston rifles. A key is the AR was not designed from the start to be a piston weapon. So any manufacturer adding one needs to do their homework about effect on balance, reliability, durability, ammo compatibility and a host of other factors. And that is just to prove equivalence to direct impingement AR’s. To prove superiority they would have to do tests of 10’s of 1000’s of rounds, and have a significant difference. An argument can be made whether a piston driven rifle is even still an AR .

That is STILL an absolute Steal of a price for a 930. I paid $150 more 6 months ago and that was the best price I could find. Correction: I went to their website and found different models of 930s from 439$ to $474 to $609 for the 930 spx, my model.

If you are in a hurry, don’t expect to get a good accurate rifle for $700. Unless you win the “PSA 308AR official Lottery” and get one of the rare ones that works and has acceptable accuracy. The other thing you might do is watch for liquidations. When Wal Mart discontinued black rifles, they were selling DPMS Oracles fo $638. When Armalite changed hands CDNN had AR10’s as low as $999 and their target AR10T for $1299. More then $700, but back then it was a $2200 rifle, and worth every penny. So you can sit on the sideline looking for deals, or bring your budget up a bit, and enjoy shooting it rather then waiting.

Looking at that thing brings back nightmares of my youth. Driving TPosts in 95F and 90% humidity. Spent a summer in school putting up barb wire fences with no PTO driver! Built up my chest and shoulders, though.

Luth MBA-1s are lighter and lower priced then a Magpul with adjustable length and comb height which is why I chose it.Armalite now uses Luths on some of their factory models.

Can’t help you on that though I have the MBA-1 on my Armalite AR10T and like it very much.

Shot some moly coated bullets a few years ago. My LGS guy who is a former world champion distance shooter uses nothing but. Moly coated bullets ARE accurate, but a pain in the neck to clean the rifles afterwards. Boron nitride would be a better way to go.

I am trying to resist getting into this kind of stuff. Tried a fast draw contest last year. The kind where you shoot wax bullets out of a single action and hit a garbage can top with a sensor when the green light goes off. Had a gas and surprised myself and the booth staff with a best of 6/10 of a second. Since then I have been thinking about it, and had a custom saddlemaker/ leathersmith make a couple of 1911 holsters for my son and I and he had some beautiful single action holsters and belts on display. I could get into this real easy. About 25 miles from me, in Okachobee Florida, they have cowboy action shooting at a range. It is getting harder and harder not to get into it.
