  1. Gadget - Do you still have these parts and are they still for sale? Thanks.
  2. Never liked the M9 and carried it for years. I told my boys in Iraq, "if push comes to shove and you have to use your pistol...empty the mag on them, if they're still alive throw it at them and bum rush their @$$ with your blade!". They laughed until I told them I was [kind of] serious eluding to the lack of stopping power especially if they [the bad guys] were doped up on adrenaline. My last deployment to Afghan was a little a different and I was happier than a pig in $h!T when I was issued my Colt M45A1 CQBP and Wilson Combat mags (they were a sonofabiscuit to load new), but dam it was a dream to shoot. The only thing I didn't like about it was the lack of available of holsters for it and the cerakote rubbed off way to easily. Nit picky stuff and personal preferences there, but I never had an issue with the weapon itself. Granted the command I was with at the time was special. There is talk amongst leadership within the Corps to go back to a 1911 Corps wide due to the fact so many Marines are unhappy with the M9. I'm not digging this new one.
  3. Well that escalated quickly...LOL! <lmao>
  4. Which one and why? Does one have an advantage over the other? Or, do you have another recommendation? Initial thought was Slash's Hvy Buffer and Spring, then I came across JP's setup. Once my build is complete it will be primarily used for hunting (if that helps any). I am using a rifle length receiver extension. Thanks I did do a search and not a whole lot came up. I may have searched the wrong terms
  5. I preach this same thing to people I work with and ask me about buying an "assault rifle". First I tell them there are no assault rifles only defense rifles. They ask me what the best one is and I reply, "I am not an expert on the brands, but I can make recommendations on what I know". Then I ask them what their budget is. They tell me and I tell them to build one. Even after I MIGHT make a "brand" recommendation. They all assume because I was in military I am expert on brands, when more so I know to how properly employ them, etc. Build, build, build..
  6. Shepp - Here you go: http://www.100dollarman.com/trucks.html All for sale and if I remember correctly street legal. Somewhere around 5,500 bucks. Arnold had a Hummer H1 also created by AM General. These things have to meet some sort of NHSTA/DOT regulations. They are driven on public roads daily or at least around here. From CPEN to 29 Palms, to Yuma, etc.
  7. Ah, the good 'ol DeltaSealRangerMARSOCRecon Operator! Those are some BAMF's! ::) Scumbag posers!
  8. Paleo diet! Doesn't do poop for my cardio, but I'll fix that. Now that I'm 21lbs lighter I might be able to run a little better! Hill sprints and iron here I come!
  9. BAD-ASS Ambi Safety Selector and Stripped Upper Receiver.
  10. Just wasn't sure since they weren't a stie sponsor or at least I don't think they are.
  11. If anyone is looking they're on sale for 64.99. https://www.midwayusa.com/product/663147/dpms-upper-receiver-stripped-lr-308-a3-flat-top-matte?cm_vc=S014 If I wasn't suppose to link them please edit Moderators. Just wanted to pass it along...
  12. Of money! I just got my ErgoGrip with palm shelf in the mail and I don't think the palm shelf is going to be of any use to me. I slid it on my lower to see what it would look like and how my hand would fit with it. "Girth" wise it is fine, but my hand doesn't seem wide enough for it to rest on the shelf. We'll see once I actually have it mounted. Nice grip none the less!
  13. Good to "see" you Micro! I'd eat Buffalo all day, every day, if could!
  14. Unforgiven - Thanks man and it was my pleasure! A lifetime of memories to share with grandkids one day!
  15. I've considered the Beefalo, but have been giving more consideration to Yak's. You can breed them with Buffalo, eat them, and their undercoat ("Yakmere") will bring a pretty penny. Going rate is 4-5 bucks an ounce. Thank you 392! Shepp - Thank you! All my family is in KS, the wife has family in NW Arkansas, and land seems to be a lot cheaper in Southern Missouri. Plus their taxes (MO's) are pretty damn low too. More importantly I gotta find a job to help with the transistion until I can get up running. All that said not sure, OK wouldn't be to bad, and I tried to get her to move to TX right after I retired (had a job offer out there), but she wasn't having it at the time. My pleasure Doc! You're right about school, I got my AA in '04 and had not been in a class since then. Carrying a 4.0 GPA right now (for what it's worth and the time being), but I'm starting to fall a little behind o.O The wife got pissed today and told me if moving back home and raising buffalo is what would make me happy then let's go. It was out of anger; I'm sure if I said, "pack your sh!t in the morning we're going" her tune would change a little. 98 - Thanks man...good to be back. Not yet on the pistol and there isn't a day that goes by where I don't think about it. I'm one of those guys you hear about on the news that got the call (e.g. pink slip), while in a combat zone, and was told, "you're going to home to get out/retire!" I mean for f#$k's sake I was only there just over a month. I'm a bitter mofo right and it blew our plans apart, it happened to me and 3 of my good buddies. Another story for another time. I can say whole heartedly and honestly I was 100% eligible to re-enlist and finish my last 3 years (to get my full 20), but Uncle Sam said, "no thanks, we'll let you retire early". I test for the Border Patrol here soon and will hopefully be able to serve our Country on another front! Thanks R....proper etiquette?!?!? Is that stuff around here, somewhere :D
  16. I follow the page on Facebook and see the posts often, but it never seems like there is enough time in the day to actually make it over here. I was talking guns with a buddy at work the other night and then it dawned on me that I'd been working on/had my build going for almost 2 years now. I thought to myself, "crap, I need to get back on 308AR.com and check in!" What have I done with it since then? Nothing! So I figure for Christmas I'll buy myself my trigger. I'm getting ready to order my pistol grip. Then I'll be ordering my buffer, buffer tube and spring followed by the butt stock. Not a lot new here, I retired from the Corps this summer and then started my new job. It takes more of my time than the Corps ever did and is almost worse than being deployed. I told the wife that and thought she was going to knock the crap out of me...LOL! Not really, well kind of... Once I got settled in to the new job I went back to school full time and am in the process of finishing up my degree. After the first of the year I begin blacksmith school and I can't wait for that! After entering the civilian work world I've decided that I need to be my own boss and I'm trying to convince the wife to move back to the Mid-West and let me start a Buffalo Ranch. She's thinks I'm crazy, but doesn't understand how serious I am! Hope you all have been well...back to doing homework!
  17. 308ar friends I will be pushing forward in the next few days for an extended period of time. Once I get my daily battle rythym established and figure out where my free time is I'll be around a little more; as I save my monies the part ordering will begin to finish my build. My intent is to have all parts (minus the barrel) at the house waiting for my return to finish this build once and for all (I've had my lower for a year now and haven't done anything with it). In the mean time a belated Merry Christmas and Happy New to you all; hope the new year treats you all well and see ya around! Oh yeah, I hope to save enough to find me a Sig P220 combat when I get home too :D
  18. I carry a blowout kit; it contains needle decompressions, HALO seals, tourniquets, iodine and alchol swabs, quick clot gauze, standard gauze, compression bandages and I can't remember what else. When I return from this "trip" I'm getting ready to head out on I'll be putting together my SHTF kit and family medical kit (which include the likes of aspirin, motrin, regular bandages, bacitracin, etc on top of everything in my blow out kit) If you don't have HALO seals or something and you think a sucking chest wound is ever a possibility ensure you have some heavy duty plastic and medical tape to close it up with. Of course this is what we carry in to combat. I don't carry anythng (like a dumbass) on hunting and fishing trips. We've actually moved away the IFAK being mounted on our flak to wearing a fanny pack type. Which in our situations make sense and we can manipulate them with one hand to conduct self aid if shot, etc. I do ensure that my wife has a first aid kit in her car at all times.
  19. Man I need to find time to get around here more often! I always miss out on the good deals and Ares is literally 15 mins from where I work! On another note their 2 point sling is bad@$$ with a forever warranty as well as their dump pouch. In case you all were wondering >:D
  20. I donate my deer meat for the simple fact after processing and shipping (from Kansas to CA) it's way to expensive! My deer last year went to two families. Not going to make it home this year; however, if I do make it home next year I will find a way to get some of the meat back to CA. Todays hunting shows are nothing more than infomercials for the gear. In the military we call guys like that "gear qu##rs"; why overload yourself with crap? Take what you need and get the job done. For the bow hunters check this out: http://game-vector.com/ One of my buddies dad created it.
  21. I hate to see this still for sale, especially at the given price. I've come across a few more on another forum and they're wanting way more....bump for Microgunner and this pistol!
  22. Don't know if matters any and will only give you one weight; however, I have a stripped LR308 lower in the closet I can throw on a scale to get it started if you want. Let me know, maybe with all the different models owned throughout the board we can put a collective list together <shrugs>
  23. I did a quick scan (really quick scan) through this and didn't see anything; however, it updates quite regularly and would be a good place to check often: http://www.gunbot.net/ammo/rifle/308/
  24. Where to start...First by saying thank you to each and every one of who was willing to pony up money to help make this happen. The depth of gratitude I have is not explainable and just the mere the thought that each and every one of you were willing to do this is absolutely mind blowing. And not just the money, the way you all were looking out for me, motivation to see this deal happen, etc is even more important than the money. Taking care of a brother is more important than any tangible item. Secondly to Micro for pulling this gun and potentially costing him money - Thank you for going on an unknown, thank you for pulling gun this down and setting aside and thank you for being willing to swap out the barrels to make this happen. I've explored every option I have available to me, not having the cash on hand and without incurring another bill I am not going to be able to make this happen and that's okay. In due time I will get my P220. What really threw a wrench in this was the changing of a tax law last year and being hit with a $1,200 tax bill from the state of Kansas. It's a long story, but the gov't decided my wife was not a resident of CA but KS, taxed her income from last year (which we didn't file a KS return for her income, just mine) and boom! I'd imagine there are a lot of us in the Military who are in that position. imschur - go for it man.... Thanks agains everyone, I hope you all truly understand and will not see me as a flake. I genuinely tried to find a way to make this work. I just can't conciously take on a debt that is not needed (e.g. taking a loan out).
  25. Robo- sounds good, I'll be around.
