Did you pick up your MWS from this shop, or are you selling yours already? This one looks identical to yours, down to the same guy doing the barrel dimpling.
Probably because the demand/volume of the .308 one isn't half of what the AR-15 one is. Knight's can probably keep their cost lower since it works with .308ARs and their SR-15.
It works on all .308 ARs. It's better to use a tool that locks into the barrel extension because no torque is placed on the barrel indexing pin that way.
Forget the Geissele AR10/SR25 reaction rod and get the Knight's one instead for only $81.25. That's what I use and Boltcarrier.com has excellent service!
They're close, but 7.62NATO has a larger headspace.
7.62x51 NATO:
-Go: 1.6355"
-No-Go: 1.6405"
-Field: 1.6455"
.308 Win:
-Go: 1.630"
-No-Go: 1.634"
-Field: 1.638"
Therefore you need to make sure your smith's using the right/same gauges you are.
I wonder if they meant specifically DPMS brand lowers or DPMS pattern lowers. I haven't had any issues with my Giessele SD-E in my MK216 which uses a DPMS pattern lower. I don't think Bubbasks has had any issues with his Geissele High Speed National Match in his DPMS branded lower.
If you want to drop some $$$ you could grab a PWS MK2 upper. I enjoy mine and it shoots sub-MOA with match ammo. You may want to measure the space between the pivot pin ears though as the pivot pin support on their upper receivers tends to run on the large side (I tried my upper on my friend's DPMS lower and it didn't fit, and it barely fit in Bubbasks' lower).
If you get a riser, you'll want to check to make sure it doesn't interfere with the charging handle. The only one I know that retracts is the LaRue RISR for the CTR.
1.5" high mounts are too high IMO on the taller .308 AR (not including brand new DPMS Gen 2). I went with a 1.285" LT-120 after only being able to get a light cheek/chin weld with a 1.5" LT-104 on my MK216.
The instructions were pretty clear to me IMO, when they said 35in-lbs for those hex screws. That comes to just under 3ft-lbs (3lb weight on a 1ft bar). Very easy to go past that.
So you bought the VLTOR tube so you could buy and use Slash's heavy buffer combo prior to getting the UBR instead of sticking with the stock setup till you were ready to make the whole swap?
I think we're all guilty of being impatient to use the parts we'll want in our "final" version of our rifles :D. Sh*t, I already bought the VLTOR A5 spring and buffer I'm going to put in my MWS' receiver extension when I put it on an AR15 and swap my MWS to an UBR lol.
This doesn't make sense to me unless you have REALLY short arms. Why change out a proper AR-10 length tube for a compromised short one??? Did you have Karl do work on that barrel too? How much does Karl charge for dimpling? I'm planning on sending my 18" SS barrel to Marvin Pitts for dimpling soon.
Ooh, just got a shipping notification for my MWS 18" SS barrel! Coincidentally, just got a quote from Nefarious arms for dimpling that barrel. Man, this barrel is going to cost me more than my GF's whole AR-15 did!
