  2. ^^^^ yea what he said - same range. I don't know why I call it the Usery range but it's become a habit....
  3. I'm aware. I'm using a rifle buffer and his goes up to 10oz. Experiments are fun!
  4. Much much much less recoil. It actually felt pretty comfortable to shoot, and bruising on the shoulder is non existent (I seem to bruise at the shoulder when I shoot the 308). Was surprised that I could hold the groups tight at 200m with the buffer plus the Giessele SSA-E. The XM80C was the only problemmatic round. The FGMM SMK's and American Eagle shot fine. With the XM80C, I believe the XM80C was under powered (for the 12oz buffer) so the rifle was randomly short stroking by about 1/2", causing it to FTF, and empty mags were caught at the BCG, not the face of the bolt. The 175gr reloads I got off my friend fired fine with no issues. Next test - reduce the buffer weight - bring extra weights so I can swap them out at the range. Hoping to finish making the compensator too and see if I can get better/quicker follow up shots.
  5. 12oz "just because I can".... :D (i.e. stupid and crazy sh1t to try just because you have a CNC machine)
  6. I was at the Usery range (aka Usery Mountain Shooting Range, aka Rio Salado...) bright and early yesterday to test out some of the pieces I made. Pretty happy with the results although some of the parts need adjustment (i.e. the 12oz buffer was a little too heavy for Fed XM80C rounds). Was really happy with the 200 yard group. :D (FGMM SMK 168gr)
  7. I had an M-308 (BDC) for a while. Ended up hating the BDC reticle since I was trained on MIL reticles. Returned it and got a Vortex Viper PST (6-24x50 FFP) with the MRAD reticle and was much happier. :) Then again, we'd be comparing apples and oranges. -S P.S. I use a drop chart too. :))
  8. Haven't been there either. Are you in the East Valley? -S
  9. That LWRC side charging handle looks very very similar to the charging handle on an FN-MAG (aka M240B/G)...only flipped from right to left.
  10. I think so. It was hammered into our heads when I was in the military. It had to be spotless! :D
  11. Doing it wrong.
  12. Go check out Sigtalk.com and you'll notice the Sig 516/517s have issues with the piston system pretty often. You're better off getting a DI and then swapping out to a piston system later if that's what you wish. What I'm getting at is cheaping out on a piston rifle is not cost effective in the long run. Note that the DI design (i.e. the original AR10) even precedes the AR15 and has worked properly for all these years, and the main reason the piston systems are the becoming new thing these days is that people get lazy about cleaning their DI guns. It's all about discipline. Keep it clean and it'll work nicely.

  15. Didn't I recommend the Wilson Combat one too? :D
  16. Man... you guys certainly have the patience with waiting for your nice NF optics. @Kiltedcowboy - look into the Vortex scopes. Pretty nice scopes for the money. You can always add a micro red dot to any scope using a scope mount adaptor. I used a weaver adaptor to mount my Burris Fastfire III
  17. Interesting... will definitely look into it. The standard top charger slot is a PITA to machine if the upper is made out of solid billet, so the side charger makes sense.
  18. .....and perhaps that's where I could help. Let me know what you're looking for in a upper/lower and I'll design/manufacture along those specs. :D -S
  19. ^^^^ LOL you're right!
  20. That's why I moved from Fremont back to AZ a few months after 9/11. poop started going crazy there, and working in Emeryville/Oakland didn't help either. ...and I really hate drivers who txt while driving.
  21. This lady will disagree with you.
  22. Unfortunate...Sucks to live in a digital world and have our faces buried in electronic screens all day. When I'm out in public I go back and forth between scanning the surroundings and going back to what I was doing.
  23. How about these at 200m zero? Just do the math to correct for a 100m zero FGMM168SMK.pdf FGMM175SMK.pdf
  24. ... and the chinese guy jumps out and yells "SUPPLIES!!!" BTW congrats!
