  1. There's a little voice in my head that's telling me not to go there because I'll be broke when I walk out of the place....
  2. That said, what about a Sig 716? It comes with almost everything "upgraded"....then again it's a piston upper....
  3. Doesn't the RRA use proprietary mags? I wouldn't consider one just because of that....
  4. :eek13: hmmm...decisions decisions.. LOL. The Hornady coupon for free bullets was what got me looking in the first place. :D Speaking of f*ing stuff up, I know the feeling. I got machine operators (who no longer work for me) running stuff and not paying attention to the parts coming out so one small thing escalates to a buttload of out-of-spec parts plus broken tools, broken machines....one guy on the night shift even made himself comfortable and slept almost all night. Too bad he didn't notice the cameras in the office. >:D
  5. Haha true. The more complicated it is, the better! That's how I roll yo!
  6. Made :D :D :D
  7. OK now I'm back to being unable to decide... lol Progressive or Single?
  8. 1. Barrel + matching bolt (best that way) 2. Uppers and lowers 3. BCG & misc parts. Tools - 308 barrel wrench (308s use a different wrench from their smaller counterparts) - one-piece universal tools like this one from Tapco
  9. 308 buffers are typically around 3/4" shorter than their standard 5.56 counterparts (this applies only to DPMS pattern rifles with AR-15 buffer tubes). For Armalite, you can use standard rifle or carbine buffer with their respective Armalite-length buffer tubes. Most here would recommend as heavy a buffer as you can get, with the upper limit around 10-12oz, the most important factor here is the rifle being able to cycle rounds reliably and not short stroking.
  10. I have no desire to kill/disfigure myself with a dangerous load... I'll stick to the books! Looks like the best deal on the RCBS Rockchucker Supreme kit is at Sportsman's... guess this week's ammo budget is going there instead. :)
  11. A "warm" welcome from AZ!
  12. For $2k you're close to a decent budget. Barrel length doesn't factor in much, and you'll start yet another long drawn out discussion about accuracy, barrel harmonics etc etc etc. Since you're hunting with the rifle, check out the shorter barrel versions too. For the price range in complete rifles, you're looking at a DPMS LR308, CMMG MK3, S&W M&P10 etc for about $1500 new. On the higher end of your budget you're looking at the Sig 716, Armalite AR10A. Remember, get what you like, not what your brother likes. :) Get a good scope. It'll probably set you back about $500-1000 so remember to factor that in. The magnification range is pretty much dependent on the engagement ranges during your average hunting trip. I don't do much hunting (except paper targets) so listen to the others here. :D
  13. Thanks for the input.... Shooting more is definitely a plus, and the primary reason I'm considering reloads is because match ammo is starting to get expensive and hard to come by (I almost always use 175gr HPBT ammo, FGMM is my fav thus far). The other plus is getting some consistency since I do see a little variance between brands. I already have a few vibratory tumblers, polishing media at my engineering shop so that's one less thing I gotta get. I'm leaning towards a progressive primarily for speed, and I figure that I only need to "buy once, cry once." Equipment I think I need - press (progressive? turret? single stage?) - dies - scale - bullets, primers, powder What else is needed? Chronograph really necessary? My other option is picking up bulk Federal-Lake City XM118LR ammo... maybe I'm better off going this way instead....hmmmm -S
  14. Indeed... all depends on the individual. Most 308 AR's are pretty well made and shoot better than the average shooter, so there's not much need to blow your budget (unless you want something flashy). :)
  15. Thinking about doing my own reloads to save some cash on ammo. Looking at a progressive (Hornady AP or RCBS 2000) plus dies, but beyond that, I don't know much else of what's needed. Any advice for starting out? ...trying to figure out if it's worth my while to reload... -S

    Savage anyone?

Interesting... more options! I was actually leaning to an SSG3000 (the new us-made ones now run $1500 instead of $3000ish) or a plain jane Rem 700 ...wait... I could only find the Mossberg MVP in 5.56.... did I miss something?
  17. Ordered this on Saturday from Amazon for the . Bushnell AR-223 FFP 1-4x24mm scope http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AU6EIIY/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Not bad price for a "brand name" FFP scope with illuminated reticle.... enough for plinking with the cheapo AR15. Gonna see how it works out.
  18. Yes, it's junk. I'll buy it off you for $5. :D :D :D
  19. Finally took it out to the range yesterday and was pleasantly surprised by the consistent and tight groups!! I was averaging 3/4" at 100 yds.
  20. Welcome from AZ!!!
  21. Yes, they're out. Saw a Noreen 338 AR and a Noreen 300 WM AR at Sportsman's warehouse yesterday.
  22. He really needs a glitter pink powdercoat job plus barbie stickers on the bike.
  23. Problem is if you install the screw-on sling QD mount on the ACS-L, it kinda sticks out and catches in your clothes and/or jabs your ribs (yes, I had an ACS-L... Farkle has it now). LOL Related thought ... anyone ever try to switch out only ONE tube of the ACS with the ACS-L?
  24. ...and I finally got around to it. Here's the cheapie toss-around bitch AR15. Bought for $600 including RDS, 3 pmags, 100rds of 223. CMMG upper (5.56 NATO - 1:9) Anderson lower Cheapie Bushnell RDS Guntec quadrail KAC rail covers Vortex flash hider ...and after Shibification (bunch of Magpul pieces I had lying around) .....I'm such a cheapass.
