Hmmm.... need to go digging through the spare parts bin and see what I can talk myself into here...

In my experience so far this is accurate. I used APs new upper and lower on the build I'm completing along with their LPK and no troubles yet. It is the high profile and matches up perfectly with the high profile SS rail from Midwest Industries. With a Rainier select barrel, matched bolt, DPMS carrier and buffer tube assy, I have zero issues charging the weapon and it locks back on an empty PMAG just like you would expect it to. I still need to install my gas system and torque everything down before I can run any ammo through it, but initial impressions with the AP setup are promising.

Did some fit checking today. Just tightened things hand tight. So far so good. No issues pulling back the charging handle, Bolt cycled properly and latched back with an empty mag. Bolt catch and release seem GTG, the trigger group resets as it should. I'm liking it so far. Weighed in at 8lbs on the nose according to the bathroom scale. :D -
Damn.. here we go again with yet another entry into this market doing it their own way and further confusing this shits out of everyone and everything. On the other hand this is why you buy matched uppers and lowers from the same mfgr. Good luck with getting the teething issues sorted out guys. Pics would be handy as well so we can see exactly what's going on with it. <thumbsup>

Update: Grabbed two Pmags on the way home today and that bolt catch they sent me works like a boss after all! I sure doesnt look like it engages very much but I'll be damned if it doesn't hang onto that magazine like a motherfucker and drop it straight free when released. Just wish it threaded into the button a little more. I guess in the end I got all wound up over nothing. Aero's M5 lpk is GTG. -
All I read was the thread title.. All I have to say is "Agreed!"
-
HAHAHAA!!! Let me know how that works out for you! There's a certain gorilla lookin dude around here that I'm sure would LOVE to meet you! <lmao> <laughs>

Sure buddy! I can meet you on Sunday. I'm gonna try and pick up a mag after work today and see if this think actually works the way AP claims it does. I think I remember seeing .308 Pmags inside Trail Boss last time I was in there. Either way, I'm happy to meet/greet, etc. You can have a look at this thing FTF and lend me your opinion. No pants-less hugs though!! I'm not into that shits...just sayin... -

OK, So just to proove to myself im not crazy here I gave you the benefit of the doubt on this one. I threaded it in further... same result. Same engagement. I threaded it further yet until it was flush which consequently resulted in the button pulling itself flush with the reciever side making it impossible to reach. No change.. The catch is fully seated in the receiver... Aero says it works that way and I'd like to believe they wouldn't say that if it wasn't true. I'll just need to buy a mag and try it to know for sure, but at first blush it looks a little sketch to me. -

I got this response back from Aero regarding the matter; So I'll go with it for now and see how it shakes out, but if it doesn't looks like I'm gonna be headed down the Armalite AR10A path. I like that Seekins button too there warthog. Any ideas where I can find both at the same time and not pay separate S&H? Also I'm gonna call Armalite on the phone and argue with them over $19.00 freight shipping on a $12.00 / 1oz part that will fit in a small manilla envelope and see how far I get with it. Edit: On second thought, I can hold my own pretty well in SolidWorks and I have a fucking CNC in my shop from my custom guitar building days so what the hell.. maybe I'll just carve out my own fucking part! Then I'll cerakote it bright fucking red just because. -
Hey um... you know you put your compensator on upside down! <lmao> <laughs> Seriously though, I'm down a very similar path as yourself building it from scratch and I'm on track for about 8.2-8.4lbs all said and done. You can check it out here: You've got a nice selection of parts there. I especially like that rail. Does 13.7oz account for the barrel nut? The three main places you can save on weight are the barrel, the handguard, and the stock. After researching lots of different options I've decided that a collapsible carbine style stock was the way to go for me. If you want a full rifle stock that's light check out the Ace ARFX skeleton stock. Also the JP low mass bolt carrier will save you a few more ounces over the full size slug and since you have adjustable gas already it shouldn't be a problem. You could save about 2oz off the nose switching to an A2 flash hider (you're gonna be taking apart anyway!! :D) Or you could even go with a simple thread protector for maximum savings. Even a shorter rail would save you some weight and cover your mid length gas system on that 16"er but I totally understand wanting the longer setup for your front sight... I know re-investing in parts you already have doesn't sit well for anyone, but if every oz. counts, you might want to look into it. Oh, and welcome to the site from AZ! 8)
