I generally level the scope and rifle with a cheap set of Wheeler bubble levels, and hang any old sighting in target on the living room blinds. From about 20' away, dining room table, I can typically get a fix on that target shining a cheap-assed laser pointer ($5-6 at Office Depot, I think) down the bore. Lining the scope up about 3" above the laser dot gets me damn close at 50, and sometimes not far off at 100 yards. Takes a little screwing around, but it's close enough. Too cheap to buy a gun cradle, but found I can pretty easily get things lined up using a couple of Jorgenson cabinet clamps. Hey, it's a cheapskate's solution, and another alternative. Windage you can get pretty much right on the nose. I've done the eyeball thing per Washguy, and that works too, but not so much with my marginal eyeballs.

Man, you guys have a lot of codes........ I suppose we all do, but it's impressive to see them enumerated like that. We is "over-lawed", yes, we is.

Merry Christmas to the world-class enablers and talented AR-builders here. Have a super 2016!

So an honest guy lives at that address..........cool!

Yeah, I serialized both of the 80%'s I built, just so I could ID them if ever necessary. But sure as hell not so some government hack can keep track of my stuff. Got two more in planning/construction now, and both will get my ID treatment. I have good photo and number records of every gun I own, but I don't want anyone else to have it.

What do you have on order or in the mail? Part 2
slugger43 replied to imschur's topic in General Discussion
Looks like Genesis CNC has completed my 11/25/15 pre-order for one of those 80% polymer AR-15 lowers, so it should be in the mail shortly. First experience with a polymer build. Looks like a fun project. Also anxious to see how the other guys on this forum do with their CNC polymer builds. -
Ya know, maybe it's not horribly relevant to the whole thread, but I'm curious: What the hell constitutes "high powered"? I've never seen an article about those pesky "low-powered" or "intermediate-powered" weapons. Apparently nobody cares about those? Are they regulated?
-
Hahahaha! Not me, but God bless him! Bet everybody on the forum agrees with this guy. I could probably be his (slightly) younger brother. Or cousin.
-
Yeah, me too on the service number. Holy cow! Also, of course, not my SSN. I remember the different prefixes on the number gave you a bit of info. RA was regular army, AR was army reserve, NG for national guard and US for draftees. Not sure about the other services... This may be boring the hell out of the younger forum fellas, but I don't give a rap. Go old guys! Har!

Just to date myself further, I still remember my battle sight zero on my basic training M-1. Up 10, right 2. How the hell does our brain store that kind of information, when I haven't seen that rifle for over 5 decades? And why? Doesn't work with my current Garand. Maybe I'm just weird. (My wife says no "maybe" about it).
-
Beautiful! Love these. But M-14........ Don't have one of these, but do have an M1 Garand...which I also love.
-
Yeah, you gotta fix the video.... just looks like something that could do evil things to you. If it has any buttons that say "automatic", stay the hell away from them..... I'm just sayin'...

Well, at long last and at least, our Secretary of Defense has finally declared in public that we are at war with ISIS. So, I assume he has been reading this thread. Therefor I hereby declare Planeflyer21 as "The Man" and am giving him credit for convincing the SecDef that we are at war. Thanks Plane. Now if we could just get the word to POSOTUS........ Yuk-yuk!

So the NFL and others think bad things could happen if off-duty cops carry guns to NFL games? They think that could make things worse if something happened? Yes, even the best cop with a 9mm is hurting vs. a terrorist with an AK or AR. But, is it just me? If I have some turd opening up at me anywhere with an AR, I'll be happy as hell to see ANY cop with ANY weapon sitting next to me. I'll take schitty odds over no chance at all, any day of the week.

Apparently Clarence Thomas and one other justice wanted to hear it, but the rest of the "conservative" justices did not. Apparently neither the conservative nor liberal wing of this very political court were sure how it would come out, so were afraid to hear it. Allowing political subdivisions smaller than states to make gun laws is a disaster for anyone who travels. Bad enough that the states are different. Our rights are hanging by a very thin and rapidly fraying thread........
-
Hang in there. Lots of people wishing the best for you around here. God bless.

Caption is Fooked up. I'm sure it was supposed to read "Terrorist suspected of being a Female". Evidence looks thin to me. BTW, Terry Moon: Right on, except I understand that in MooseLimb heaven the goats are virgins. Have I got that right?

http://www.80percentarms.com/collections/lower-receivers/products/fde-billet-80-308-lower-receiver This is what I used. Billet, anodized, good finish and quality. These guys do have some good prices on blemished ones, also. Plus, if you do screw up one of their lowers using their jig, they will sell you the second one half price. CS is good; you can reach them on the phone, and they are helpful. Yeah, I had to get the second one. However, I was able to fix the first one, so ended up with two very good ones. Mated up super with my upper, which was from Aero Precision. I used an 80percentarms jig. Their .308 jig is NOT universal. But it works very well, using a router to do the finish work. I was very happy with them. My son and I just went in together on a jig from Modulus, which is "universal", which we will use to do a number of AR-15's. Take your time; go slow, take little bites with the router, and you can come out with a super, professional looking lower. And it's a hell of a lot of fun. Lastly, don't think I'd be concerned about the forged vs billet thing. The biggest problem with 308 is the lack of reliable standards. Aero has a great reputation for quality, and the fact that their upper fit so well with my lower from 80%Arms speaks well for both companies, I think.

I think it's helpful to keep in mind that Iran is mostly Shia, Isis is pretty much all Sunni. When Isis captures people, the Shia are singled out for execution. About 72% of moose-limbs in Turd-key are Sunnis. The Kurds (closest thing we have to allies in the area, IMHO) are hated by the Turks, who fear them. (and they should!) I'm wondering how the hell POSOTUS can buddy up to Erdogan in Turkey, and still pretend he's going to put up serious resistance to Isis? How the hell can Turkey stay in Nato? In that pissing contest, we should likely be rooting for Russia... Can we please just get our map drawn up so everyone realizes this is a sunni-shia conflict? And have a little bit of an idea of who the players are, and where their loyalties lie? That's not going to change, boys and girls. Is it just me? God help us if we don't learn to read a history book and a map! Right on. If he does anything, he will put our superb troops at great risk by putting way too few of them into that hell-hole. He does not understand the use of military force. He only understands his fooking "legacy". A pox on the son-of-a-bitch! Screw it. Enough ranting. I'm gonna go build me another rifle. I find it soothing......

Very well-written easy to understand article. Thanks.

Hey, I like my .40 S&W M&P too. And I have, and enjoy the hell out of my "modern" 1911. But I'll get one of these. I had a military surplus 1911 a long time ago, and due to a brain fart traded for something else. Always wanted it back. Got a couple of garands through the CMP, and I'll go for one of these, also. That comes from being a nostalgic old fart. Besides, Obama doesn't want me to have one....can't think of a better reason to own one.

I always buy stuff I really can't afford
slugger43 replied to bullshooter's topic in General Discussion
I am absolutely, positively convinced that you deserved both of those. Hell, in fact, you deserve some nice optics to go with. Hope you enjoy the heck out of them. Congrats! (enable-enable-enable-enable-enable-enable-enable....etc.) -
What do you have on order or in the mail? Part 2
slugger43 replied to imschur's topic in General Discussion
Took a flyer on that AR-15 80% polymer kit coming out from GenesisCNC. I know, polymer! But, I got an Ares 80% in aluminum, if that doesn't work out. Shopping the hell out of black Friday stuff from Midway (barrel) and PSA (Upper, various parts, stock, etc. etc.) to go with that. Wasn't gonna do one right now, but my son has become an excellent enabler.........my-oh-my! (Yeah, heck Dad, do another one, think of the money you're saving on this black Friday stuff...blah, blah, blah..)
