  1. One of my all time favorites...
  2. Even here in the USA, the shooting sports are seeing a significant decline, including hunting recruitment. The trends portend the same situation NZ is facing, maybe taking a few more decades, where the number of people hostile or simply ambivalent to firearms may eventually grow to overcome the inertia required to amend our constitution. Constitutional amendment to repeal amendments is hard, but has been done; e.g., the 21st repealed alcohol prohibition by the 18th. I think the shooting community here in the USA is concerned and has done much to recruit women, minorities, youth as of late, but this may just delay the inevitable unless the trends can be reversed somehow.

    Weather

Great Lakes - Great Weather! Ha ha!!! Weather Advisories until Wednesday in white on map. Half a foot of snow or more, 30-40 mph wind gusts, and throw in a chance of freezing rain and ice accumulation for me.
  4. Unfortunately did not get to try the food at 3floyds. Heard its up their with the beer! If you make it to Michigan, it is really hard to get much better than Bell's Brewery in Comstock (near Kzoo) and Founders in Grand Rapids. And if you're into Belgian beers and sours, Jolly Pumpkin in Dexter (near Ann Arbor) is a life changer, perhaps my favorite brewery on this planet. BTW, there is supposed to be a Jolly Pumpkin in Hyde Park Chicago.
  5. That is a good one. I think Zombie Dust might be their most recognized. Definitely made some internet noise for them and was one of the reason's I checked 3Floyds out. Edit to add: BeerAdvocate has Zombie Dust as the #1 American Pale Ale.
  6. Not sure on the hop varieties. They range from 35 IBUs (Gumball Head) up to 100 IBUs (Arctic Panzer Wolf), but most are around 50 IBUs. I'm not as much of a hophead as I used to be, but I'll never pass up a Bell's Two-Hearted Ale.
  7. Edgecrusher, looks like we shop in a similar way. Was on my way back from Chicago last summer and stopped at 3 Floyds in Munster, IN and said "give me one of everything." The back of the Suburban was full of boxes of six packs, singles, 750mLs, etc. Will have to keep an eye out for Treehouse. Sidenote: Highly recommend 3 Floyds to any fan of American pale ales. Here's the label text from their Space Station Middle Finger "From the dawn of time, humans have looked to the sky for answers. Space Station Middle Finger replies to all from its eternal orbit. Behold and enjoy Space Station Middle Finger, a bright golden American Pale Ale."
  8. That there is gold in protein form!
  9. That's because the second type hold up the line for us first types...can take ya a half a damn hour to get a cup of coffee if ya get just two or three of those second types in front of ya in line...argh!!!
  10. Try removing the rear sight. It may not be seated in the pic rail properly. Check the rail where it was seated for burrs or divets. Also check the underside of the removed rear sight to see if the pic rail engagement bar(s) are level, bent, or have some debris in there. Reseat rear sight in same place if all looks good and also try reseating the rear sight up a couple notches on the pic rail and compare. Edit to add: Also try installing the rear sight backwards and see if it leans the other way. Then you know its the sight, not the rail or upper.
  11. Par boil or Hasenpfeffer stew, mmm, mmm, mmm... The rabbits are putting a hurt on our garden right now. I told the wife we need to put them on the menu. My dear wife (fish and egg eater, no meat) turned and agreed with me and said she would join in. She's tried venison, pheasant, grouse, woodcock before...sold her on the 'locally sourced' and 'organic' angles! Ha ha! To Sketch, you can't 'save' rabbits for later, over 80% of them die every year as they are simply food for everything else. You can pretty much make them food for you and the same number will be back again next year.
  12. Move that hare all the way over to the right side, let me grab my shotgun and release that basset hound! Woo hoo!
  13. My neighbor's M1A SOCOM has an impressive muzzle brake, but boy is it loud, like REALLY loud, seems like twice as loud as my LR308. That M1A SOCOM muzzle brake, however, keeps the front planted. He and I both can put a whole magazine on target faster with his M1A than with my LR308.
  14. Must be Wisconsin, if it was da Yoop, you'd see an ice shanty or a guy sitting on a bucket waving at the skier going by.
  15. Latest American Hunter issue has a short test on them. Went thru (8) 1 gallon jugs of water. Found the article in the online edition: https://www.americanhunter.org/articles/2018/1/11/hardware-ddupleks-broadhead-steelhead-slugs/
  16. LOVE IT! Thanks for sharing.
  17. An old email list I remembered and was able to find... This is the Unofficial World Wide Activities Thermometer, based on stereotypes and geographical generalizations by temperature. Air Temperatures: (Farenheit) 60 degrees - Californians put their sweaters on. 50 degrees - Miami residents turn on the heat. 45 degrees - Vermont residents go to outdoor concert. 40 degrees - You can see your breath, Californians shiver uncontrollably, Minnesotans go swimming. 35 degrees - Italians cars don't start. 32 degrees - Water freezes. 30 degrees - You plan your vacation in Australia. 25 degrees - Ohio water freezes, Californians weep pitiably, Minnesotans eat ice cream, Canadians go swimming. 20 degrees - Politicians begin to talk about the homeless, New York City water freezes, Miami residents plan vacation farther south. 15 degrees - French cars don't start, cat insists on sleeping in your bed with you. 10 degrees - You need jumper cables to get the car going. 5 degrees - American cars don't start. 0 degrees - Alaskans put on T-shirts. -10 degrees - German cars don't start, eyes freeze shut when you step outside. -15 degrees - You can cut your breath and use it to build an igloo, Arkansans stick tongue on metal objects, Miami residents cease to exist. -20 degrees - Cat insists on sleeping in pajamas with you, politicians actually do something about the homeless, Minnesotans shovel snow off roof, Japanese cars don't start. -25 degrees - Too cold to think, you need jumper cables to get the driver going. -30 degrees - You plan a two week hot bath, Swedish cars don't start. -40 degrees - Californians disappear, Minnesotans button top button, Canadians put on sweater, your car helps you plan your trip South. -50 degrees - Congressional hot air freezes, Alaskans close the bathroom window. -80 degrees - Polar bears move South, Green Bay Packer (and Buffalo Bills) fans order hot cocoa at the game. -90 degrees - Lawyers put their hands in their own pockets. -100 degrees - Hell freezes over, Clinton finally tells all.
  18. Appears to be an Armalite magazine based on the patent number (U.S. Pat. No. 5,638,626 is assigned to Armalite). The spring-loaded button/tab sticking out of the back of the follower is a bolt catch actuation finger to hold the bolt open on an empty magazine. If you're curious: https://patents.google.com/patent/US5638626A/en
  19. LOL! First time I've seen flip-flops in a tree-stand! Maybe I'd like deer hunting more in FL! Here in MI, I'm worried about frost bite while wearing pack boots...ha.
  20. I didn't realize Sig came out with a 10 mm model already! Ha ha!
  21. I have a couple 10 round MagPul mags with -5 round base plates from MagPul. My DPMS is a 1st gen, however. They work great and do not stick out far past the magazine well.
  22. Had a 2000 F150 (sold in 2010 w/ 136K miles) that had an aluminum drive shaft -- huge diameter to the thing. No grease fittings either. Just curious if your 2005 has the aluminum drive shaft. Mine looked as new as when I bought it after 10 years in Michigan winters. One is hard pressed to find ANY grease fittings on any newer vehicle.
  23. Saw them as a kid in person on The Mall in DC July 4, 1984 (dating myself here!). Saw them again two weeks ago on TV on PBS for the July 4th special. Nothing says summertime like some Beach Boy tunes.
  24. I would first blame the snap cap. The plastic may not be as slippery as brass in the chamber, may be oversized, and may be getting compressed/pinched when loaded into the chamber making it tough to pull out. If you're dropping the bolt release on it, it is getting driven home much harder than a typical pull back on the charging handle. As you said, it operates fine w/o the snap cap. Perhaps run a different snap cap, or better a spent piece of brass, and check the cycle.
