Dick's sporting goods stops rifle sales
bubbas4570 replied to Madhouse's topic in Firearm Industry News and Gossip
I could care less about Dick Sucks Sporting Goods.......fuq them in the neck. On a personal level, there is a bit of pain. My leathersmith is THE only person whole knows anything about their hunting portion of the local store. She is their Manger for that part, and runs it very well. Unfortunately we don't even talk about things like that since DSSG pulled out of the AR market, the friendly discussion started getting a bit testy, and I dropped it. There are other jobs in the world, and she will find one when they close. -
Hopefully this current generation doesn't forget the past and what it cost us. I heard on a report there are only 5 remaining survivors alive today from Pearl Harbor, and the first time that there were NONE at the memorial service due to age/travel problems.

Bolt Action AR uppers
bubbas4570 replied to survivalshop's topic in Firearm Industry News and Gossip
I know that looking at this like any a other AR15/308AR upper, there isn't much difference than one type being manually activated and the others (semi or fully auto) being gas operated somehow. And I will leave the pump versions out of this discussion.... In my opinion, all the ATF is doing is trying to ID all the bolt uppers, and using the "it has a bolt action upper style receiver" argument to bolster their case. In their twisted logic, which I used in earlier posts, they probably think the pivot pin lugs constitute the place where the fire controls attach to..... I do know the 50BMG types have everything on the upper needed to fire except trigger controls. They have the bolt, barrel, locking lugs, and the magazine sticking out the side (if mag fed) ; if single shot - there just is no magazine. In many ways what is problematic to myself is that the 308 and 223 sized uppers are caught up in this crap. -
Bolt Action AR uppers
bubbas4570 replied to survivalshop's topic in Firearm Industry News and Gossip
The FAL is made no differently than a bolt action, it feeds into the action and the barrel is attached to this serialized part, nodifference. Our AR'S are the exception in which parts are serialzied. Normally the barrel attachment part is the serialzied receiver. For whatever reason the brain trust at the federal level went with the ammunition feeding part instead of the "normal" way it had been done previously and since to every other style of firearm. -
Bolt Action AR uppers
bubbas4570 replied to survivalshop's topic in Firearm Industry News and Gossip
A stripped receiver ( pick any bolt action maker if you want) the tube of the mechanism where the bolt rides in and the barrel attaches is serialized as the receiver. If you get a custom maker, order a stripped Remington bolt action (or a blue printed one from another gunsmith) receiver from Brownells, however one wants to get it.....it is still the serialized part. Even with no trigger assembly, stock, what have you. ...it is still the receiver by longstanding definition. Whether we like it or not, I do think this has been slipping under the radar for years. My first thoughts about these years ago, when the first 50BMG styles were being put out, was curiosity of how this wasn't considered a firearm back then. And I do agree that this is just one more way to register everything, hands down. No argument there. -

Bolt Action AR uppers
bubbas4570 replied to survivalshop's topic in Firearm Industry News and Gossip
I was kind of pissed off myself at first when I read I was kind of pissed off myself at first when I read this also. Upon further consideration, I do believe they are correct. Any other bolt action rifle is serialized by the receiver with in which the bolt of the rifle resides and operates. Just because this tubular receiver bolts on to another receiver such as an 308 AR type of receiver, doesn't make it a "non receiver".... at least that's how I would tend to understand this also. the big the big problem is now how to easily and cleanly deal with everything that's already out there of this type of accessory / newly reclassified firearm. -
98, no it doesn't lock even with the upper pivoted forward. I guess I'm going to have to pay a little more attention to exactly what's going on. This just turned into a real project. It tries real hard to lock in like a grownup magazine, but still isn't quite there..... ??
-
It locks in perfectly, cycles, and locks bolt back.....no work needed on this one, just a name maybe. And 98, it is steel, just like C-products would have been. I just didn't want to hear ProMag or USA.
-
98, nope it will not lock in with bolt locked back. And I haven't tried fit with upper removed. There is no contact between bolt and feed lips, as no scratches present from moving bolt across mag/nor can I detect bolt drag while eh and cycling bolt. I think I just found ano the project.....and something I will mess with until I get it to work.....??? one of these 3 outcomes at the end for me.
-
I picked up a mystery mag and would like info on who made this, if possible. The cut arouND the body is familiar, but I am drawing a blank.
-
$15 .....makes for a worthwhile challenge then.
-
Cool. I am not against doing a bit of filing on the mag latch hole if that fixes it.
-
And FWIW, the mag does not lock into place. I can pull it out, but it does not fall out. Early generation APF receiver. And they used to make parts for DPMS...... 3 digit serial number receiver.
-
And I also have questions on a AR15 mag for ID purposes, if this works here also. Unless I need to go to the black rifle section for that.
-
I picked up a couple of used mags from a LGS. The 308AR mag is a DPMS metal mag, I assume from the stamping on the baseplate. And my question, any answers as to why it doesn't lock in without the bolt being locked back AND ejects upon the bolt riding forward. It feed correctly with A-zoom dummies. I have ZERO problems with Magpul mags in this receiver, and have never tried anything else, just to give past info. Do DPMS mags need some fitting to work once in a while? Or is this a mutt?
-
98, I would call up a suppressor into use with a pistola...neighbors may not even notice that much. Go out and start putting nails into a 2x4 afterwards.... Even your perimeter notifications will spark a potential call for neighbors I will guess. You out there building something, not so much.

What do you have on order or in the mail? Part 2
bubbas4570 replied to imschur's topic in General Discussion
How about 3 magazines for a new HK P30? Not glamorous, but I finally stepped up to quality in my life where semiautomatic pistolas are concerned. And does it count if they are ordered through a LGS, as the magazine are still transported via mail.......? -
ATF prosecuting a lawful AR pistol owner
bubbas4570 replied to Armed Eye Doc's topic in Firearm Industry News and Gossip
After reading the TAG link, alot more makes sense.......and there were just some badges looking to hammer someone they didn't like. And thankfully, they got hammered back instead...... Or so it looks like to me. -
I watched that Bill Still vid a couple of days ago also. It only made me even more sure there is a large cover-up of the whole shiiit-show from that day. I felt this from day one, and I don't have the super secret training, inside friends, nor on scene knowledge.....and I still can see a pile of bullpoopy all the way from North Dakota on this one.
