MARSOC choses Glock 19
ARTrooper replied to survivalshop's topic in Firearm Industry News and Gossip
well an m249 isn't that easy to take care of and has plenty of issues with dirt and grit, but an infantryman takes care of his weapon in the field. if he falls, he protects his weapon from the fall. besides, remember, they did use 1911s in combat for years and years. -
she just wants me to put my buffer in her buffer tube now.

great, wife saw all that and now thinks I am on some porn forum

MARSOC choses Glock 19

I call bull! I would rather carry a 1911 in combat than a glock. :P -
what's with the lightweight upper there? that looks interesting, couldn't find it though.
-
that's a nice looking kak wash
-
my first ever deer rifle was a marlin 30-30. I liked the side ejecting.
-
something tells me, she's gonna need a cleaning once you guys are done with her.

love the multicam pattern! actually I hunt in my old multicam from the army, so I might have to get a stencil like that.
-
haha. noted... have I told you lately how much I have enjoyed talking to you?

Wisconsin, where we assemble our best guns while drinking our best beer, in hopes that nobody gets shot at the range.

welcome from the great state of Wisconsin

I find functional weapons sexy, not some cool design. if it doesn't have a purpose then why add the weight. and if it has one purpose, it better have at least 2 more. ;)
-
well then wouldn't it be part of your responsibility to figure out the rules and post them? lol. so far shepp, all I have seen is a title, what is it that you actually do?
-
so what you are saying is cmmg is a slut? so... when do I get a copy of all these rules? lol.

it's all politics and money, someone involved had their hand in the cookie jar and that's why the decision was made. my proof to this is past things such as the army going to ACUs that only blend in with pea gravel on children playgrounds. not to mention sticking with 5.56 when there are many better options out there. my time in the military showed me that decisions are made not for the benefit of the troops, but for one or more higher ranked (military or political) person's agenda. and this goes to show what I mean. if they were issuing them out already, they were just making it seem like they were considering other options. lol. so I try and stay away from getting anything the military decided to purchase because it usually the cheapest option or just a poor option that someone with power benefitted from. plus as soon as the military has purchased it, the prices skyrocket on the civilian market. -
yeah no kidding right, the price is ridiculous. most of the time the reticles were to bright and we had to tape over most of the tritium. I think they are living off of the military and video game fame... "if the military uses it, it must be the best!"... "it's cool because it is used in video games!" yeah, huge difference in price. makes it hard to justify spending the extra money.

the mention it you buy it rule? lol
-
I carry my rifles by the pistol grip and fore grip. it's not a suitcase.
-
good to know, you guys should let me know what else to stay away from. haha

eotechs I don't like, acogs I liked in Afghanistan because of the added magnification, but eye relief wasn't that great and field of view in the optic isn't that good. would much rather have a scope that can have better eye relief sometimes and far greater field of view often times than a acog. aim point red dots I love for at-15s when it is more about sending rounds down range to just give em hell. but if you got to make each shot count and you don't want to damage meat, it helps to have a little bit of magnification, especially since none of us are getting younger. lol. so if I was clearing rooms, aim point red dot would be my optic of choice, although that close you just point and shoot. but if I was to pick one optic for any and all situations, it would be a 3-18x50mm first focal plane scope. low enough magnification that you could clear rooms with it, but high enough magnification that you could take those accurate long range shots. now I know probably a bit expensive for something along those lines, but a less expensive 3-9x40mm scope would be better for most scenarios than would the other optics. although the 1-6 power scopes are very useful also. but, look what I just found. http://www.bushnell.com/tactical/riflescopes/elite-tactical/smrs-1-8-5x-24mm

I don't think a holographic is necessary shepp, many scopes have better eye relief that ACOGs. a decent scope with good eye relief and 3-9 power would work good as long as you kept it on the low setting unless ready for a long shot. heck, even 1-6 would work great. my opinion is holographic, red dots, and ACOGs are a waste of money... and I have used them a lot, but just never liked them as much as a good scope.

there are many places to get decent platforms and you don't have to pay an arm and a leg. http://www.fulton-armory.com/lowerreceivertitanstrippedfflrequired-2.aspx http://aeroprecisionusa.com/m5-assembled-upper-receiver.html usually they have matching sets, but they must be out of stock right now two great brands that are affordable, but there are many others out there. I also like Magwa's idea for a carbon fiber handguard to keep the weight down. you don't need a gazillion rails on a super long handguard that just adds extra weight that wont benefit you. many good choices of light weight free floating handguards whether they are carbon fiber or aluminum. http://criterionbarrels.com/ http://columbiariverarms.com/ two good choices for affordable barrels, again many others out there. I myself prefer stainless steel. maybe for a stock just use a lightweight magpul moe carbine stock the hard part isn't finding things that can be used, it is choosing from all the options. lol.

I am 100% wash. I myself haven't hunted hogs before, but seems like you need something light and fast. what Wash described is exactly what I had in mind. .308 is the perfect round I think for hogs, sure 300 blackout can take them out. but what if you had to pass some up because you couldn't get close enough to get a humane shot? .308 you wont have that problem, plus it has one of the widest range of bullet sizes, shoot anything and everything with it basically. yes to the .308 16-18" barrel medium contour the m4-72 compensator should be good no to magpul PRS stock, they are heavier, plus you could benefit from having a lighter collapsible stock. as for ATN scopes, I don't know much about them, but seeing as speed is key, make sure it has good eye relief so you can quickly get on your glass without having to burry your eye deep into it.

300 blackout is good for close range, but for some of the bigger hogs, I wouldn't use it past 100 yards. but smaller hogs like most areas have, maybe 200 yards.
