#1. Most of those points are not true, but some aren't so much false as they are opinion or preference. Definitely not gospel in any sense. #2. The only consideration you really need to make, is in terms of what systems are reliable and proven, especially in regards to the recoil system. Gas systems aren't terribly tricky as long as your gas port is the correct size and you have the correct gas tube length. #3. Unless you buy a barrel with an oversized gas port, or are running a suppressor, you're better served running a fixed gas block. I prefer the clamp-on type myself.

Ballistic Advantage makes a phenomenal barrel. I've got one on a Mk12 Mod 1 build, and it's a pretty incredible performer. Several folks here have shot it and may vouch for it, but I've been impressed by every BA barrel based build I've ever shot, and that's based on a half dozen builds and 3 separate calibers.

I've shot out to 1k quite a few times with an 18.5" barrel, with no problems apart from environmental factors. Point being, an 18" 1:10 twist will stabilize a 175gr SMK out to 1k with no difficulty.

Which is more important, maneuverability or accuracy? It's not a philosophical question, it's an application question that's specific to you. If maneuverability is the prime factor, go with the pencil profile. if accuracy is the key factor go with the heavier longer barrel.

I've heard that story multiple times, and the catchphrase still makes me laugh every bit as hard as "Don't waste it, spit it in my mouth!". The Fall Shoot was awesome, but I'd be lying if I said it wasn't diminished somewhat by your absence. I lost count of how many times Tom and I both said "Dirk would have the hardware and brains to solve this issue..."

There are 2 very compelling reasons to be a sucker for punishment: #1. I get to hang out with you rat bastages and.... #2. It's very satisfying to hear (and see) a bullet strike steel at significant distance. Beating a desert rock into submission is also fairly satisfying, albeit tiresome.

No worries, you're good brother. I don't think anybody would doubt your experiences. I know full well myself how easily drills and reamers get dull and how tool offsets change over time. An undersized pin or an oversized bore is not difficult to believe in the least.

That's true but it's also a matter of proportion. There's more similarity between the metals of the barrel extension and pin than between the barrel assembly and aluminum receiver and barrel nut. The difference in expansion in terms of the pin (and it's hole) isn't enough that it should ever float. As @98Z5V pointed out, it's an interference fit.

I like a small rear bag and a bipod in conjunction, but if I had to choose only one, I'd choose the bipod.
