18" is plenty for getting you out to 1k. What's more important is the right weight bullet and barrel twist match to get you there reliably. 1:10 twist and 175 grain match ammo has been the magic for me.

That's a long list my friend. DPMS- compatible parts are probably still the predominant share of aftermarket options with Armalite pattern bringing up a very close second, IMHO. Fortunately for you, there's a really easy way to narrow down the possibilities; the way the upper and lower receiver meet. The receiver pattern for DPMS is a 90° continuous radius at the rear of the upper and lower receiver. The Armalite pattern consists of a receiver cut on a straight angle, with tangent radiuses at both ends. DPMS: Armalite: Anything that has the radiused upper receiver is DPMS patterned.

There is not much aftermarket stuff for the G2 DPMS, and anything that is will likely be denoted as such somewhere within the product description. If it's not explicitly stated, assume it's for the 1st Gen LR-308.

I echo this sentiment, love my raptor as well. You would also be well served by the TacOps as well though.
