Lol. You've seen the YHM version. It's my FDE build. I even put a Spikes HAVOC on the Troy tube. Lol
I'm actually too embarrassed to take pics of the CMMG. It belonged to a friend, and after I repaired it, it was mostly Stoner, YHM and DPMS parts inside. It shoots. Enough said. If I never get credit for it, I'm ok with that. Lol
As for my latest side project... AFTER we get back from SHOT. I have a feeling some incredible shiit is going to be released in January. I'm not building anything till I see what's out there.
When I scored that stainless Marlin model 95 last year, it came with a few boxes of 405gr semi jacketed rounds... I beat the shiit outta myself on the first range trip. I'm going back to 325gr when this shiit is depleated.
There are guys here who have working cmmg rifles. These guys are also seasoned armorers. I've successfully used cmmg parts, but the amount if time spent to make them work offset the price savings.
I've built 3 AR's recently in 7.62x39. One using mostly YHM parts, one with CMMG, and the third with expensive boutique parts.
The YHM ran perfect from the second I torqued the last bolt. The CMMG was sent to me in pieces by a friend who tried to diagnose/fix his own rifle, and got in over his head.
The tricks about 7.62x39 in an AR are the bolt and the magazines.
MGI and Cason Engineering make bolts that have successfully run thousands of rounds in full auto rifles.
There are tutorials online how to make a full size magazine function better. The 10 round mags seem to have perfect function.
The AK-15 has been available for years. The MGI Hydra as well. Both versions use AK magazines and a modified carrier in an AR format rifle.
This new CMMG is a fix to something that wasn't a problem.
Sorry Shibi... my personal hatred of CMMG can't be contained.
Why the fcuk make it bigger? Aside from diameter, the 7.62x39 cartridge is smaller than the 5.56x45.
SI Defense... Also called Sonju Industry... is owned by Richard Sonju.
Last I heard, Josh and Adyn Sonju (Son and Daughter to Richard) work for NEMO... just across town...
Sounds like a lot of awkwardness around the holidays.
Separate the upper from the lower. Does the BCG still drag inside the upper when disassembled?
Inspect your carrier. Are there any unusual wear marks or scratches?
Check your buffer retention detent for proper height. Check your bolt catch for tension and height. Either of those could be dragging.
Still... why? To make a sub-par version of the original cartridge? The casing is so short, you wouldn't get very significant performance.
Maybe, as a single shot, subsonic, rat gun, for blasting rodents in the garage.
I think still I have some Hornady 150gr match that'll put any North American beast's dick in the dirt... four legged or two.
I scored a few boxes from a local LE SWAT pile. They recently transitioned from 168gr FGMM.
I have to agree here. I mean, it'd be cool to say you did it, just to do it.... But what for?? A less than equal .223?? There's no way you'd get the same velocity as a true .223.... It's not like when a .308 blasts out the 77gr at over 4k fps.
If anything at all, a switch block instead of an adjustable gas block. It'll give you the option to completely shut off the gas for super accurate bench shooting.
The only reason you'd need an adjustable gas block for your rifle is if you were using a lightweight BCG (Like the JP LMOS) and buffer assembly.
I rode the 250R when I worked for a family as a teenager. They had one for their property. I can't count all the times I should have died....
One day the CR500 and I will meet....
I think they stopped the donations.
She is home and recovering (as much as she really can). There was a lot of help from sources ALL OVER.
I'm going to lock this thread and wipe the donation link to clear up any confusion.
Thanks again everyone!
