  1. And the Bad-Ass 45 degree ambi-selector... :o I'm jealous!
  2. Magpul discourages placing the MBUS sights directly on the rail provided on a gas block. The MBUS was designed to be mounted on a handguard picatinny. If you are so inclined... JD makes a raised rail gas block that looks like it wouldn't get so hot as to impede with the integrity of the MBUS. http://www.riflegear.com/p-771-jd-machine-upper-height-gas-block-308.aspx
  3. If you are looking for light-weight, adaptable and free-float... I have to throw out Apex Machine. I bought their rifle length "gator grip" handguards, and I am very impressed. The rifle length DPMS version weighs a bit more than 10oz. You can mix/match rails as you like. One problem. If you want a hidden gasblock, it must be a VERY low profile. The Apex handguard is damn near the same diameter as the AR15, and is not very forgiving on space. I think VLTOR makes a low-pro that will work... Or a modified A2 front sight. Apex also makes two different top rails for the DPMS versions. Both the original picatinny height and the new height.
  4. It's real pretty. Is that the "Fail Zero" plating on the upper?
  5. I apologize if I missed this info in another post... What upper/lower combo is that?
  6. An available option becoming more affordable. I've been seeing more work by these guys and I'm impressed. www.crc2.net
  7. I'm on a different thought process. I believe you only need what your environment and usage requires. I'm LE, so for my work rifle I prefer a 0 to low magnification halo/scope with paired with back-up flip sights. The job and my life require 100% reliability. For a paper killer, I get a high magnification scope and let it stand as-is. I'm not so worried about the target charging the bench if my scope fails. For home-defense I only choose tritium sights, because they never fail to perform. As for hunting... I never needed two types optics/sights during the 20+ years Ive been hunting with a bolt or lever rifle. If something ever failed, I either went to the truck and got something else or I went home. As for an all around "fun gun" you can't go wrong with a stand alone EOTech 512. Cheap and easy to find. Uses AA batteries. Can be used by just about anyone for damn near any situation.
  8. It's not NASA, use a ruler or tape measure. Your talking about 3/4" or damn near 1". Either way, it's a pretty noticeable difference in measurement. A heavy bull barrel, .936, would be a feature you should already know about your rifle. Otherwise the .750 is pretty much industry standard on a .308. Can anyone correct me if I'm wrong in this?
  9. Is the "Endrine Buffer" worth it?
  10. Score one for Robocop! Glad no damage had to be done.
  11. Ive done the polishing trick before, but with much larger parts. I can only imagine the headache of fitting a trigger pin into the chuck of a makita, and keeping it from falling out. It might just be easier to hold the pin in vise grips and run a modeling/jewelers file over it a few times. You can also try the freezer trick. Put both the receiver and the pins in the freezer for a few hours. As metal gets colder it shrinks. The pins will be ever-so-slightly thinner, and the pin holes will be ever-so-slightly wider. When the metal comes back to room temp, the metal will go back to normal. They will be in there TIGHT. WD40 is cheap, and your gun can't drown, so don't be afraid to spray! It doesn't hurt to have a freezing agent to help keep the temp down while you work. Maybe try applying dry ice? I don't suggest using a Co2, an upside down duster, or propane, because they collect moisture really easily.
  12. That is such a good lookin machine... How did it do on paper?
  13. Jgun, The wait on your range report is killing me...
  14. The only contact I have with Ron, is through AR15.com (sorry, Imschur). I am using the mega billet upper and lower. The lower will have a magazine block installed to load either Sten, M3 grease gun or 41AE Uzi mags. Ron mentioned that he is making his own 45acp mag soon, and they can be easily modified to shoot 10mm. I'm hoping his mags will be similar to the new Oly mags. For my 10mm, he recommended a light buffer system for 10mm FBI ammo, and a standard buffer system for hit hand loads. I'll probably start with a tubb flat spring and a JP LMOS, and work from there. The big difference between Ron and Oly is that Ron installs a cutom DI gas system and Oly uses a blowback system. I believe there's a company that sells Rons "RMW" uppers on a regular basis. Check out bazookabrothers.com
  15. In defense of SI Defense, they advised that the F-0 parts were going to be done pretty fast, but warned me that the OD plating would take several weeks longer. I figure that gives me time to save for my ABS barrel.
  16. I just paid for my F-0 upper and BCG, also picked up the S/S bolt catch, screws and barrel extention. I'll keep you all updated.
  17. I have a Mega billet lower and a billet upper on order for my DI 10mm build. I picked the slick side upper, no FA and no dust cover. As soon as I get the parts in, I'm mailing the upper to Ron Williams from RMW Extreme for a custom 14.5" barrel, BCG and DI system. I ordered a real fancy 10mm comp and Magpul clothes to finish her off.
  18. Bob Mernickle makes some beautiful stuff. I love his work! I own a few of his holsters, mainly because he'll make one for any gun you want. I have a two shot .357 derringer I carry in a little hip holster. Two weeks ago I ordered a special OWB holster made for my TRP Operator (full rail). It should be in the mail any day now. Bob Mernickle is out near Carson City, NV. But I generally run into him and his family at the Reno Gun Show every chance I get. I'm sure having his wife and daughter there with him help for sales. If I'm right, his daughter is a SASS quick draw champion.
  19. I read a post on CalGuns.net that stated JD was aware of the issue and they recommend C-Product mags. Since JD is a Cali company, a lot of CA gun owners buy JD rifles. They are in every gun shop in my area, 5.56 lowers and .308 sets. CalGuns had group buy last year for JD matched sets, and people jumped all over it. Since then a handful sporatic of post have been made from people asking about how to fix this issue with LR20 mags in the JD 308. One writer explained that he was part of the testing process for JD and the mag issue was recognized early on. There has been no mention of how to fix or remedy the problem... Except for pushing your mag in harder and having to hold it there by hand, or posting your rifle off the mag when sitting at a bench/table. I have since sold my JD receiver and am patiently awaiting the arrival of my SI Defense custom order. I really like JD, but I feel they may have fell behind the curve when new builders like Mega and SI came out. Now with Colt's new design everyone should be scratching their heads.
  20. I was at Fort Ord on Saurday. Things are getting old, but the MOUT field in the old barracks is great! Marina, Oceanside, Monterey... All beautiful towns. My wife and I go there regularly.
  21. I kniw the feeling. I have a itch to buy a 6" Colt Python for $1k. Wouldn't mind an Anaconda to mate it with in the future... Preferably a 2"-4" 8)
  22. Jgun, Is that a 15" SWS on a 16" fluted barrel? I'm guessing thats the BABC on the front end too? I had a dream one night, and I swear your rifle was in it... Beautiful build!

  24. Ok, ok, have you looked at the MGRIP made by EMA? Try here: http://store.a51tactical.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=37 They aren't going to win you any beauty contests, but a picatinny mounted magwell grip may be your only option for a while... Or try to stretch the piss out of a Sixell Never Quit Grip.
  25. If redneck isn't your "thang" you could try the ghetto route and apply lots of rubber bands!?!?
