Drew, you're lookin' good, brother! <thumbsup>
-
Hell, I might try it again this weekend. <thumbsup>

Brother Mike, you've got to try grape seed oil - highest flash point out there, so you can get that stuff REALLY hot. Damn hard to find, though, in a regular store. I nail it at Costco.

10,000 comedians in this country are out of work - and you guys are sitting around trying to be funny... I hope you all feel guilty... :fawkdance:

I see there's a WHOLE PACK of smartasses this afternoon... Shoulda figured it. Well, I ended up with 3rd today, first race in 27 years. Last time I did any of this was 1986, and I was MUCH better at it! Oh, in the interest of complete disclosure, I got 3rd out of THREE in my class. <lmao> Actually, they lumped me into the 36-40 class, so that sucked. After two motos and a main, I was a tired sum'bitch!!! <laughs> This is what I rode, ya bunch o' assheads...

By the way, I'm in the "41-45 Old Man Cruiser Class..." <laughs>

Yup, like the title says... Have the almost-stepson out here now, and he's interested in all kinds of schit. He rides park a lot (on a BMX bike), back in Mass. Over the summer while we had him here, we took him to an indoor skatepark that allows bikes. He had a blast, and stayed in the foam pit trying to backflip the whole time. I asked him if he was interested in BMX racing, and he'd never done it. Since we got him back out here for good, we checked out some tracks in the area, and Friday night we watched a race... SO... Today, we're gonna race. Yes, "we..." I've got my old 24" cruiser, he's on one of my old 20" race bikes, and we're gonna hit the track for a Sunday afternoon race. I'll give you guys updates when we're done - either from home, or the hospital bed! <lmao>

That's a whole lot like the discussion here:

I'd still go MRAD, brother! <thumbsup>

Gas block looks good, brother - nothing out of the ordinary there. You'll have some carbon blow by on stuff like that, until there's enough buildup to make a good seal. No kidding. Looks like the gas block port covered the gas port in the barrel just fine - was the gas block mounted tight? Other than that, gas system looks alright. Something in the pics made me look at the end of the gas key on the carrier - is the end of the gas key flared? Outward? Looks funny. Check how much the gas tube protrudes into the upper receiver, when you put it back together. EDIT - measure the diameter of that gas port in the barrel, while you've got it apart.

He's in "strike" position! And, so is she!!! <laughs>

So, all this legislation saved HOW many people today? That's the design of the legislation, right? To save people? If they pass this, and they pass that, EVERYBODY is MUCH more safe than before. And criminals STILL don't give one schit what the laws say. Pass all you want - it STILL won't make them care. Fcuking idiots.

With all the excitement around here, I almost forgot to tell you guys Happy Halloween! Here's some Halloween cheer from the Little Woman, dressed up and heading into work. She'll kick my ass if she finds out about this... During "costume selection" today, TactiCat even got into the Halloween spirit!

Be careful loading that bullet - the TSX is longer than another bullet of the same weight. It's longer than some 175s that are out there. Hit this for load data, and start on the low side, varying up by 0.2gr. If you load up 5 each like that, for the next 5 weights, it'll be apparent which one is performing best. http://www.barnesbullets.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/02/308WinWeb.pdf

That MOE grip will go on there, OP. Make sure you don't crush your spring(s) whilst putting it on (make sure they're lined up), and tap that thing in place with a rubber mallet. No need to cut or shave anything - it'll go on.

Marlin has released a new .22LR semi auto rifle version, the 795LTR. The Appleseed program advocates building and training with a cost-effective rifle to use at their events, and maintain the learned proficiency with. It really doesn't matter what it is, as long as it has a couple key features: magazine fed, semiauto, .22LR, quality iron sights, and a sling. This concept is what Appleseed calls a "Liberty Ttraining Rifle," or just LTR. There are no gear-snobs teaching Appleseed - you can shoot whatever you bring, caliber doesn't matter, just have enough ammo, and an open mind. As far as the LTR concept, there are a few rifles that lend themselves better to this methodology - the Marlin 795 is one, and the Ruger 10/22 is another. Marlin has stepped up the game, and "partnered" with Appleseed (for lack of a better word), and released the new Marlin 795LTR - the Marlin Liberty Training Rifle. Okay, enough of my words ^^^ - here's the press info down here vvv... Official Appleseed ‘Liberty Training Rifle’ by Marlin Marlin has teamed up with Appleseed — the national shooting and historical society dedicated to teaching people the fundamentals of marksmanship and the annals of the Revolutionary War — to bring to market an official “Liberty Training Rifle,” a specialized Marlin 795. While a factory Marlin 795, Ruger 10/22, Henry Golden Boy, even a decked out AR-15 or just about any rifle will take you through an Appleseed event, Appleseed likes to focus on a wide range of shooting skills and some things are highly recommended, such as the use of magazine-fed semi-automatic rifles, preferably .22 rimfires simply due to the amount of ammo an Appleseed shoot requires. Peep sights are preferred and slings are practically necessary, which is why the new Marlin LTR comes with both. Marlin went with official Tech Sights brand Tech Sights for the LTR, which are heavily-favored by Appleseed shooters. The sling is a traditional canvas sling. Finally, the LTR comes with two 10-round stick magazines. What’s really impressive about the Appleseed LTR by Marlin is the price. The MSRP is just $299, barely more than a stock 795, which hopefully means the real-world price will be around $225. That, plus a gift certificate to attend an Appleseed shoot for free, makes the 795LTR a really nice value. From the looks of it, the Marlin LTR has the same specs as a standard 795; 18-inch barrel, micro-groove rifling, overall length of 37 inches and weighs in at 4.5 pounds. If you were thinking about attending an Appleseed shoot and were still working on what rifle is the best rifle for the event, this should answer your question pretty adroitly. About the only thing we could think of that could possibly make this gun better were if it came with a couple bricks of ammo; then you’d really have everything you need for an Appleseed weekend.

Time to start shooting nothing but Barnes solid copper bullets. <thumbsup>

How do I remove this #*&%2! LR-308B handguard?

I'd say Geissele Reaction Rod, but that's only for 5.56 right now. That KAC tool only works with KAC barrels. This is directly from that link above: We're found that it is not compatible with standard AR-15 barrel extensions with square lugs. Only works with KAC barrels. For a similar product for standard AR-15 pattern guns, try the Geissele Reaction Rod. -

Seen it happen, man. Loc-tite on barrel nuts, receiver extensions-into-lowers, flash suppressors... You never know where you'll find it on some complete rifles... -

30-80 is correct. Go 30 three times (tight, loose, repeat) to set everything. Go 30 again, line it up with the next gas tube hole, and it's done. That won't be over 80. If you take it to 30 that final time, and you're perfect on a gas tube hole, you're done. No need to go any further. Now, in addition to probably loc-tite on the barrel nut that's on there now, it's probably tight as hell, too - more towards the 80 in the range. You'll have to fight it, I'm positive. Post a pic of that barrel nut wrench that you've got - let's see what it is. -

You should be getting closer to 150 rounds per pound for a .308 Win, man. Anything from 42 to 45 grains per charge. That make's the cost per a few more cents less. <thumbsup>

That's the barrel nut, brother. You need a vise, upper receiver vise block, and a barrel nut wrench that will fit that barrel nut. Anything else will cause you to pull your hair out, if you haven't done that already... EDIT - DPMS probably loc-tited that sucker on there, too. Mentally prepare yourself for that.
