It helps to attack the parts with 400-grit sandpaper - hit as much on the parts as you can. Rinse with hot water. Get enough brake cleaner to submerge the parts for 15 minutes, and dunk 'em. Let them soak for the 15. Use gloves, pull the parts out, and let them air dry (won't take long, at all). Shoot paint.

If you can find a place to make a barrel, there is a guy on the MVP forum that has made the tool(s) to change out the barrel. I don't know if anyone has done it yet, but they will certainly beat Mossberg to it, if they haven't already. The 18.5" MVP just went out-of-stock at RifleGear, and they were about the last people to have them. Honestly don't know where you can find one now. Gawd Damn, I love some mag-fed bolt guns. To muddy the waters here... <lmao> Same thing is true on the 5.56 guns. Collapsible stocks. Carbine receiver extensions. That's why we have standard (weighted) buffers, H buffers, H2 buffers, and H3 buffers - for the 5.56 guns with carbine receiver extensions.

I'd love for him to come visit me, and go shooting. First thing, I'd guarantee to the SS people protecting him that he'd be safe - if he stays with me. If he runs, he's on his own. I'd try to get a waiver for him to be "allowed out on his own," away from them. Just by himself - and me, of course. I'd then take him out to the border areas of the Southwest Desert, and we'd go for a walk out there. I'd hand him and AR-15 - semi-auto only, not a "real Assault Weapon." We'd go to places just like this, which are all INSIDE the US Borders. I'd make sure to point out the signs to him, so he understands the issues at hand... I'd definitely take him over to Organ Pipe National Monument, so he could see that place. Again, I'd make sure he read the signs, that US Citizens are made aware of: We would definitely go for a nice hike, along these trails: We'd stop along the way, to learn the history of the area. I was thinking from a predatory standpoint, and him messing up your hunt. In alot of states, if you're out on a hunt, and another predator shows up, it's game-on for that predator. You don't have to track a predator shot. <thumbsup>

I'm having a hard time getting this one into my head, brother - welcome to the board, by the way. <thumbsup> If the bolt is in the bolt carrier, then both the ejector roll pin and the extractor pin are inside the carrier - thus, unable to go one way or the other, and come out. Can you post some pics of your bolt face, with the ejector back in the bolt now? That would help, greatly.

That's awesome info, Terry. <thumbsup> At a minimum it means the barrel extensions between the two are very, very close (twins?), and that the lugs on the bolt are machined to identical lengths. Opens some doors for RRA LAR-8 builders in the barrel department, without a doubt.
