Wanting to build an SR-25 clone.

Make sure you check out the other offerings from companies that make DPMS compatible uppers and lowers. There's TONS of great stuff by independent manufactures out now. Hit up the section below the KAC section; it includes them all (or almost all of them). Armalite Section DPMS Section Knight's Armament Section The Other Brands Section <thumbsup> -
AAC and Remington have developed a new cartridge that fits standard AR mags, and can be fired from the M4/AR-15 platform. Check it out: http://militarytimes.com/blogs/gearscout/2010/09/29/300-aac-blackout-new-caliber-new-mission/ http://300aacblackout.com/ This will probably heat up the M4 replacement info/debate some. Gonna get interesting. <thumbsup>

Mmmmmm... "Colt Modular Carbine 7.62mm" stamped into the side. Along with the US Patent #. Digital Desert Camo... <thumbsup> I can't wait to see what's under that MS Paint mess in this pic... ;D

IMHO, that's a gun store owner that's defending his personal opinion. I think he's never built his own .308 AR, he's never shot a factory .308 AR, and he's never been interested enough to talk to anybody that owns one if he's bumped into one on a range before. No experience with the platform. Quite the opposite of "nothing but problems and the never function properly," actually. My opinion? That particular gun shop owner doesn't know what he's talking about.

My mistake - I left out some info in my Armalite vs. DPMS design info, so my statement above isn't correct. There are lower reveivers manufactured that can use G3/FAL mags, also... If you're convinced on the Armalite design, you might want to wait for the Mega MA-TEN design to become plentiful. Basically, it's a very, very nice version of the Armalite platform, but designed to use DPMS-based mags. Rumors out there right now are that any AR-10 upper will mate directly to that lower. If so, you could run an AR-10 upper on a lower that will use the 20-rd Pmags. As for Armalite mag producers, I'm not sure, other than the two companies you already mentioned. -

Welcome to Club .308. Pull up a chair, man. <laughs>

I feel your pain, man. Happens to whatever my plan is, all the time. Stuff comes up, other stuff gets dropped one more peg on the list of "things to get next..." :o <lmao> Congrats on that King Cobra, though - love those things. <thumbsup>

I hope that precedent spreads like wildfire. <munch> ;D

Here's a couple quick bits of info (getting ready to leave for work here). There are only two types of magazines: Armalite-compatible and DPMS/KAC-compatible. Every .308 semi varient uses one of those two types of magazines. There are two types of barrel threading: Armalite and DPMS. All barrel nuts and rails are threaded for one or the other, so that affects your rail choice. Speaking of that, KAC rails have a special barrel nut wrench, and the thing is about $250. That's just what you need to put the rail on - not the cost of the rail itself. THere are places that offer the rail-mounting service, but doing it yourself is almost cost-prohibitive. There are two types of upper receivers: Yep, you guessed it, Armalite and DPMS based parts. Mega Machine just introduced a new upper and lower set that incorporates most of the desired features from both platforms. It's an Armalite-based upper with DPMS thread, and the lower takes DPMS mags. You'd still be out of luck on the KAC rail, but that set is definitely worth looking at. -
Ballistic Advantage Barrels

Adam at Ballistic Advantage is the go-to guy for ALL of Spike's Tactical's custom barrels... <thumbsup> Great stuff. -
Here's a very good read on the drama with the M4, and future procurement. It's long, but it's worth it. http://www.defenseindustrydaily.com/the-usas-m4-carbine-controversy-03289/

I'll take my UBR apart and check into a way to "pin" it in place. It can't be hard, really, and wouldn't damage the stock on the long run. With all the presets available on it, threaded, there has to be an easy way to drill up through the lower section (without permanent problems) and use a long allen bolt/screw to pin the thing in place. <thumbsup> It's an unbelievably strong stock, and the thing feels just like a fixed stock in any position. Brute should be the word. ;D

Well I ordered a barrel
98Z5V replied to imschur's topic in DPMS LR-308 General, Technical Discussion
All I remember hearing was something about a tapered gas block on it. I'm curious about what the "taper" really is (extent of taper), and why a regular gas block can't be used. In all honesty, the stories of that have been what's keeping me from buying one of these barrels previously. The details of it are all up to you, Drew... <munch> <laughs> Spill it, man! -
^^^ I'm in that same boat right now, SS... Found out that Tactical Machining has their lowers on sale for $180. <thumbsup> So much for the .338 LM gun anytime soon. :o

Yeah, the UBR would probably fall into the collapsible category. It has presets to it, by way of small allen bolts. I've got one position set at #3 and one at #5, and I run it at the #3 position almost always. I'd bet that you can set it up to have the presets at something like #3 and #4, and then it doesn't adjust (somewhat "fixing" it in place? <dontknow>) I'm not sure if that would get you around the laws (or meet the laws) for CT, but I'll still check mine out anyway and let you know what I find. Now, you can still bypass the presets, but it involves pushing/pulling two things at once. Most people that would stop you to question you would (I imagine) be unfamiliar with it's function. Don't know if that would be worth it in the long run (in the jail cell)... ;D

Yeow!!! That's a great price! <thumbsup> What was the conclusion about the gas block on that thing? -
WOW!!! You might just delay my SBR build... I'll let you know (but anyone else interested shouldn't wait for me to say anything... <thumbsup>). Jump on it fellas, but I might not be able to resist this. Incredible deal, Jgun.
