1st ar308 build in 6.5 creedmoor....looking for reloading advice
98Z5V replied to carverelli's topic in General Discussion
I'm running the RL-22 in 300 Win Mag and 338 Lapua Mag. I was surprised by it, too, in the .260. -
I've already got that planned out - it's in the hillside, right behind the house pad. We tunnel to it. Nothing exposed, won't even know it's there. The SECOND bunker complex is out by the road, when you go left out of the driveway, uphill...

1st ar308 build in 6.5 creedmoor....looking for reloading advice

My 140 and 147 ELD-M data will be real close to the ELD-X data. In the Hornady data, it's the same, but verify (per projo weight, it's the same). This load info is shot through a Wilson Combat 20" .260 Remington Tactical Hunter barrel, 1:8" twist. My 147 data came from Hornady, my 140 data came from Sierra. I'm using the Hornady 140s, though, with the Sierra data. Both 140 and 147 data is hard to find, because those projos are so new. On 140 ELD-M in the .260 Rem, I'm running 35.0 grains of AA-2495, 2.785" COL. On the 147 ELD-M, I'm running 43.0 grains of RL-22, same COL. Big difference in the charges between the two,but RL-22 is a slower burning Magnum powder, and AA-2495 is more of a match .308 powder. Took me quite awhile to come up with them, through several OCW ladders, but those are the ones. I have a hybrid 5.7oz shorty 2.500" buffer in there. The 140 load won't lock back with that buffer in there. To run the 140 load, I have to switch out to the 5.15oz shorty buffer. Start LOWER than what I told you. LOWER. .260 Rem has a very small amount more case capacity than 6.5 Creed. My STARTING load on the 140s was 34.9gr, and I went up. There were serious pressure signs with everything higher, and I pulled a bunch without shooting them. I pierced a couple primers when I was in the mid and high 35gr loads. I pulled everything else as soon as I saw that. ***Load data over the internet is on you. If you blow yourself up, it's YOUR issue, not anybody else's issue... ^^^Just thought that needed to be said. -
Yes, the Aero rifle recoil system will work, and probably have zero issues. Yes, you need the Armalite AR-10 rifle gas tube. Two WC barrels now, and another one just showed up to the board here - it's the way/location that WC is drilling the gas ports. Armalite AR-10 gas tubes.

What weight projectiles are you planning to use? I can give you some "close" data on my .260 Rem loads, with Hornady 140 ELD-M and 147 ELD-M. -
Hell YES! That came out great, man!
-
Didn't I tell you guys about this thing awhile ago?...
-
Just list out what you're doing then, if it's all planned out. I'm sure you've got all the projected weights, etc., on hand already. Check out some of Breaststroker's work on lightweight builds. Not really practical, but quite light. Sub-5lb .308AR, I think? The Xanthos is 16oz combined, stripped upper and lower. That's the lightest out there right now, unless something else popped up recently. Once VSeven starts making the .308 stuff in their billet 2055 Lithium/Aluminum, it'll blow everything else out of the water.

If it locks in with the upper removed, that means the mag feedlips are contacting the upper receiver cuts, and the upper receiver is keeping it from locking in. If it doesn't lock with the upper removed, that will mean you need to check the cutout on the left side of the mag - something there is stopping it from locking. Or the pad on the mag catch is Yuge... Things to look for... Just pivot the upper forward on the pivot pin, and try to lock the mag. If it goes, then try to close the lower and pin it with the takedown pin... SOMETHING is gonna happen...

Nothing you can't account for with the proper drop of the load you're using. Once you know how much it drops, you can run it out there just like anything else. I've got a 13.5" .308 with a red dot. For shiits and giggles, I'll put a magnified optic on it and run it out to 845 and see how it does. I know I have a 14.5" 5.56 gun with a red dot that'll do 575 yards. A 12.5" Grendel that's suprisingly accurate at that 845 yard target. It's the drop, dope, and holds, man. Just find out where it goes transonic. Any distance after that speed is a crapshoot, unless you have a badass ballistic app to run it out further.
-
Not true. I just finished a .260 Rem and nothing is adjustable in the gas system, or fancy in the recoil system. That cartridge is a virtual twin to the 6.5CM. Runs great without complicated shiit getting in the way.

I like mine one of two ways - either will do... Bitter and Murky Sweet and Creamy

Problems with AR10 build, cycling and bolt catch on empty mag
98Z5V replied to Mikejames's topic in General Discussion
You go, SS. You stick with that. -
Welcome aboard - whatever happens, we can solve it. List the specific parts in a build thread, and ask questions about certain parts before you buy - we'll be able to figure it out beforehand, and not waste money.
-
That would be great for comparisons, and info. That'll work out beautifully.
-
They did some pretty weird stuff with carbine recoil systems, man. I'd did into that thing and measure it all out, and see what you have. I'm talking about - I personally looked at a PA-10-marked receiver extension that was 8.000" internal depth... Look for impact marks on the ears of your lower receiver, that will be from the body of the BCG slamming into it. That's a bad sign, but a definite sign that it's got big issues.

That's what you READ when we say it - and you're interpreting it wrong. That's on YOU, buddy, no one else. When people ask, I will tell them that I can guarantee that I can list parts that WILL work, if they get the parts I say - and I give them part numbers to search for - and guess what? They WORK! Every single time! You want a carbine recoil system for your Big AR that won't let you down? Buy Armalite AR-10 parts. They work, every time. Find these part numbers... I even state OTHER receiver extensions that will work, and I tell people to get ANY AR15 H3 buffer? You go run out here and try to tell people that they need DPMS parts to get their recoil system running - and most of them are going to tell you that they HAVE DPMS parts already. YOU take up that argument with them, and explain the difference in DPMS factory parts, and the amount of JUNK that's out there on the market. Shiit, almost everything a vendor lists is "AR-10" in the listing, and it's DPMS-Based... You fight that fight - it's not worth it. Meanwhile, I'll recommend parts that work, by part number, and include variances that work, too - just like I always have here... So, how is that an Armalite pusher?!... Are you nuts? I don't even own an Armalite AR-10 , man, so quit climbing up on that horse, so you can fall off it again. I'm not an Armalite pusher. I push parts that WORK... I hope you understand that. -

You can disagree with Eugene Stoner all you want - he designed it, and he designed it before DMPS bastardized an AR15 part to make a 308 with a collapsible stock on it. If you have information otherwise, please post that first DPMS LR.308 with a collapsible stock, that came before the AR-10 Carbine. I'll be waiting... Disagree as much as you want - that's the ground truth, right there, and it was designed to operate on a 5.4oz buffer. Period. DPMS made a bandaid, in order to put AR15 parts on the 308, and they did their homework, and the straight-from-them big carbine recoil system works. That doesn't mean that everyone gets it right, now does it? Hardly any of them CAN get it right... Tell me I'm wrong... Please read CAREFULLY what I stated, SS: Now, in that confession, straight from me, did I acknowledge that DPMS gets it right? You're damn right I did. However, you have to go throw this out there, because you didn't read what I stated... "If you mean..." I did NOT mean that, and if you read what I posted, you would know that. So, here's what I'd like to see - you find me ONE DPMS-BASED Carbine Recoil System that doesn't have problems, that is NOT using DPMS Genuine Parts. Just to be clear, and ultra-clear to you, DPMS LR-308 Carbine springs do work, but only with a 3.8oz buffer. OTHER OEM springs from OTHER OEM MANUFACTURERS USUALLY SUCK, AND DO NOT WORK. Happy? -
This is your chance to turn that Lesson 65B around, brother...
-
Personally, here's my opinion. Don't complicate shiit with complicated shiit. I'd fix your recoil system with stardard, functional parts, and not worry about it. As soon as you start tossing all this fancy shiit in there, you're diagnosing more problems, downstream. For JP - run the whole system, including LMOS BCG, or don't mess with it at all. For the SRS - go read some reviews, man.
-
If you go Armaspec SRS, pick the proper weight. I'd go for what should be in it, not comparing what is in it right now (because that's too light).

Be a hell of alot of fun to shoot, with that Razor HD on there. If it was me, I'd put a LaRue LT-158 mount on there. -
M249 SAW with the 200-rd drum in it. I was a little distracted by the background, but I've handled those enough to know just what it is...
