If you crimp too much, you'll bulge the cases at the base of the shoulder. It takes some experimentation. You will be able to see the crimp - you'll see the taper of it. Just don't go too far. If all your cases are the same length, all your crimps will be the same - set the die.

On that, and a good point to make here - when everything went crazy after December 2012, ammo on shelves dried up. The only things you could find were 30-06 and 20 Gauge. If you don't own those two platforms, you should consider it, just based on ammo availability when things get tough - that was one of the toughest ammo situations I've ever lived through on this rock.

With the amount of calibers available to choose from, I'm not "assuming" anything - and you haven't stated anything... Rifle gas, "midlength" gas?... What's the barrel length?

Can you give us more details on the rifle - maybe a full pic? So we know what we're working with here. It feels like I'm having to waterboard you to get information, and you're very vague, until you're specifically asked about something.
