I'm seriously at a loss as to what this thing will become. It's bothering me, pretty bad. Whatever it turns into, it won't be a beater gun, and it won't get abused - but it will be shot. Hell, it might turn into another 18" match-accurate 5.56 gun. I honestly don't know... This intrigued me. http://faxonfirearms.com/match-series-18-gunner-223-wylde-rifle-length-416r-nitride-5r-nickel-teflon-extension/ What's not to like? 5R rifling. .223 Wylde chamber. Rifle gas on an 18" barrel. 1:8" twist. I might use this set to build an 18" gun that will embarrass the Mod 0 and Mod 1. If that's the case, the trigger will be the Geissele Hi-Speed National Match, with a backed-off low-ass pull weight. You can set that bastard down to 1.9lbs, combined pull weight... I know I love the fuk out my my DMR trigger in the Mod 0... https://geissele.com/hi-speed-national-match-trigger-set.html Fuk, I don't know...

I'm sure he'll show up... That IS a pretty damn good deal - I hope it's around come payday...

I'm down with the 300 Win Mag, 45-70, and 30 Carbine, once again. If you're hitting the range anytime soon, I can wait. Payday is next Friday, so I can get the money to you then.

SSA-E is a great trigger.

If it's the PSA PA-10 carbine receiver extension, I just recently got hands-on with one of those - they have an unusually long internal depth to them. A little longer than AR-10-length, which is 7 5/8". They're not machined toany kind of a standard, and PSA ships them with the wrong buffer (DPMS LR-308 based buffer, at 2.5"). I'd shitcan your recoil system and get known good parts, honestly. Measure out what you have now, and get pics up, but be ready to find out some weird information...

The Oly "Plinker" was a cast aluminum lower receiver. The only difference between the "Plinker" and "Plinker Plus" was the plus-model used their forged lower receiver - you have a good one, and it's a piece of history, as well. I still have the opinion that Oly made great shiit - back in the day, they were the ONLY company that manufactured everything in their own shop. Everything. They bought parts from nobody, and did ALL their own work (and work for other "manufacturers"). Their barrels are incredibly accurate. When I bought an AR from them, I had to wait in the showroom while they finished rifling my barrel... No kidding... they were in the middle of a barrel run of the barrel profile I wanted, and they told me to hang around. Got to watch it being finished. I hope they keep on going, with everything that's going on with them. Lotta haters out there, but I have much respect for them, and what they do.

I just want to add one more thing here, and I think I've got the info right - I might be wrong, though. I'm pretty sure that Slash@heavybuffers.com recommended using the Armalite EA1095 spring in the 308s, no matter what you were running (rifle buffer system, carbine buffer system, Armalite, DPMS, whatever...)... If I'm wrong, I hope Slash shows back up and corrects this info. I'm pretty sure that's good info, though.

That's true to a point. The guys that have lots of guns and ammo, and are quite proficient on all their weapons systems are really the fearful bunch.

You might very well be the first person I've ever conversed with, that actually has one. Got pics of this thing that you'd want to share? Show us some pics of what you're working with, and we might be able to find suitable replacements - once we see it. Gotta be an absolutely awesome boomstick.
-
^^^ That's probably why they were gone (from Aero) in 4 minutes... Other companies snatched them up, and punked the public, hoping to hang onto them and make a profit - good to see them "on sale" from other vendors...

No worries, man. It happens. The real confusion comes in from the aftermarket manufacturers... Seriously. THEY don't know the difference, or they ignore it. You'll find alot of parts that are deliberately advertised as "AR-10" this and that, and they're directly DPMS-based parts. They would not really work in an Armalite AR-10. Also, once the mortal man realizes that there really is a difference, they also realize that the most prolific pattern is the DPMS-based pattern - and you intentionally don't search for "AR-10 parts" because you know they won't / don't function as they should in a DPMS-based boomstick. You'd intentionally, in an informed manner, over look some real parts that WOULD work - if the manufacturer advertised their shiit correctly... This is the world we live in... We can only try to help. We can't stop them, we can only hope to contain them...

Awesome work there, Breast... glad to see you around again. Now, what have you done with my buddy Wash?...

In the original link to the AP page on these, they show the Gen 1 lowers (just standard lowers) on the 5.56 sets - they are actually the Gen 2 lowers, and those things are pretty sweet. Once I get it out of jail, I'll have some damn good pics up. I have no idea what I'm going to do with this thing yet...

So, I've been needing to work on my Gun Pusher's Yamaha side by side. He was having a reverse issue. It's been some crazy weekends around here, and we've missed linking up for about the past month or more - he's been so damn busy that he couldn't make it out for the Fall Shoot. So, on both accounts, we've been busy... Yesterday, since I'd been putting it off, I finally prioritized it and hit him up. Early in the AM, I sent him a text that said "Drive that damn Yamaha to the shop today, and I'll fix that reverse issue..." He responds with an "OK!", then minutes later, "I'm gonna be late this morning - the Yam is BURIED in my garage..." I swing into the shop later in the afternoon, and the damn Yamaha isn't there. Oh well, I hit him up... So, when this Service Edition builders sets hit the news, he text me right away, "DID YOU SEE THESE?!!?" Hell yeah, man, I damn sure did... I told him the AF one was the baddest looking... When HE saw them, he called his Aero rep right away - these things were damn near sold out in the first 4 minutes after the email notification from Aero... Last week, he sends me a pic - the only thing he could grab was the Air Force one in 308, he says... Now, on to yesterday... I walk in, and he says, "You need to see this..." and pushes a big-ish Aero Precision box over the counter to me. Ooooh buddy, I KNOW what this is!!! I'd been wanting to see that P51 paint on the 308, BAD!!! I open the box... And it's the damn Army builders set in 5.56... Motherfucker AMBUSHED ME!!! As soon as I opened that box, I was hooked... and he says, "I don't do lay-away, but I'll do it for you..." Bastard... I threw some money on it yesterday, and I'll chip away at it, and bring it home. I don't know what the hell I'm gonna build with it, but it will be awesome... After he closed the shop, I finally fixed his reverse issue in that Yamaha, at his house...

Pete - you are awesome at range brass, completely awesome. You know once you get your new list up, that I'm down with the "weird calibers..."
-
Wouldn't it be scary to see both of us coming out of your fridge when you opened the door?...
-
Now you lost me... What "POF kit" are you running? Got a link to it? EDIT - this has to be the one - that receiver extension should have an internal depth of 7 5/8" to run that AR-15 Carbine buffer. https://pof-usa.com/shop/upgrades-accessories/7-position-308-buffer-tube-buffer-assembly-and-spring-package/

You completely rocked it, brother...

Using DPMS pattern barrel, bolt, and bolt carrier in a Noveske N6 upper
98Z5V replied to gunsmoke50's topic in .308AR Parts
This will work fine, if you decide to go that route. I was never 100% positive of this, until recently. I used Aero Precision 308 upper, lower and rail (DPMS pattern) with all Armalite AR-10 guts (recoil system, barrel, BCG). The thing runs just like any other I've built up. -
What happened to this dude, that appeared earlier in the thread?...
-
wash, you are relentless...

I think so, too. One thing at a time - next, I'd go to a known good buffer spring for these DPMS-based 308 carbines, and use a Sprinco or Tubb Flatwire. After that, I think we will be chasing some gas issues. If the 16" upper is ejecting just fine with both BCGs, but not in the 18" with both BCGs, I don't think there's an extraction or ejection issue.
