    My road trip

Shiit, brother - that's what it looks like when I'm in the Dodge on I-10... when the transfer case stays together!
  2. Oh shiit, here we go - straight from that article you quoted... Thus endeth the 80% lower, in Cali. You watch...
  3. You definitely need to call ASA. That receiver cut is certainly Armalite-patterned, and it is not DPMS-based, in the least...
  4. Yeah, brother - after this trip, when we were rummaging through my giant shiit-pile, there was a twinkle in his eye...
  5. Contacting Armalite might be the only way you can do it. There is nothing online that you can look up and reference build dates for these rifles/components.
  6. I found these combo blocks from Lyman's, at Bass Pro. Love 'em. https://www.lymanproducts.com/brands/lyman/case-prep-tools/case-gauges/ammo-checkers.html
  7. Good stuff, Rob! #4 Buck is my favorite 12ga load, by far. #4 pellets certainly do rip shiit up.
  8. YES! Don't complicate shiit with complicated shiit. Build a functional, simple rifle FIRST. IF you find you need something fancy, because your rifle function is lacking, THEN you add the "complicated shiit." Almost all of the time, that complicated shiit is not even close to being "necessary," in the least.
  9. Doc: "No honey - those 7 build kits aren't mine..."
  10. Yep. The bottom of that 308 carbine receiver extension was clearly laser marked PSA PA-10. Sketch was having some running issues with his 308AR, and I tore that sucker down... sure enough - 7 5/8" internal depth to that tube - actually, a little more than that. Run the Armalite recoil components in sketch's gun and guess what... ran a hell of alot better. Still have to stack 2 or 3 quarters in the tube first, just to prevent the BCG from over running the bolt stop... PA-10 owners - if you run their 308AR carbine receiver extension... I'd just throw that thing in the trash and start with something known. Don't chase running problems of smashed equipment... My $0.02...
  11. That's how I suckered mine into it... I shot it through a whole tube, and acted like it was nothing - he saw that and said he'd give it a go... Got him!
  12. I love you guys...
  13. SS, You fit those things with 35-round cylinders?...
  14. Damn...
  15. I don't mind giving this SFP scope a shot - if the reticle fills the field of view. If it doesn't, then no way. I'll get hands-on with one before I buy it, and check it out. Having to set it to 18x zoom to do the ranging might not be cool at first, but I can get used to that. I'd much rather it be a FFP scope, range on any magnification, but it's got a hell of alot in it for $650. I'll know more once I play with one and drop it...
  16. Too much crimp will squash the taper on the case, and expand the case - then it doesn't fit. There could be several reasons, due to reloading steps made in the reloading process. A case gauge will be the best thing to get, and check the rounds as they come out of the press - if they don't fit in the case gauge, something's going on with your reloading process... There is no external dimansional difference between 7.62x51 NATO brass and .308 Win brass, so that's not it.
  17. I'd look into the 308 match-type barrels from the 3 barrel makers we have as site sponsors, over that DMPS barrel. Any barrel you get from Faxon Firearms, Ballistic Advantage, or Criterion barrels is going to be comparable in prices, and shoot circles around that DPMS barrel. The Fulton Armory barrel on this page is badass - so are the other two: http://criterionbarrels.com/barrels/.308_AR All of these are excellent: http://ballisticadvantage.com/ar-parts/ar-barrels/ar308/premium-series Same here - excellent: http://faxonfirearms.com/barrels/ar-10-lr-308/308-winchester-7-62-nato/
  18. Speaking of that. I need to find a good Remington 700 Long Action magazine conversion... I can't own a bolt gun that doesn't take magazines...
  19. ^^^ This, right here. If we don't get these career politicians OUT, and get fresh meat in charge, that isn't corrupted, we'll have a gun ban again some day. I'm just glad I'm sitting on a solid, solid stack of bolt action rifles, as well...
  20. Fuk him - he was 18 at the time of that vid, and he's 21 now. He made his own choices to shoot that pig, as a legal adult, of his own accord... He ate that recoil by his own choice...
  21. They will...
  22. GLADLY give that one out... First is the projectile - a 405gr composite silver alloy badass slug from these guys - hit this page, hit 45 cal, and go to the one on the lower right - that's the 45-70 405gr pill they offer. It's a performer. http://www.oregontrailbullet.com/shop/ Next up is the new Hornady brass. This brass shocked me - it's like outerspace shiit, in it's price. More than a buck a round, for new, unprimed brass. Once I bought this rifle, and realized what brass cost, I almost shiit my pants... Next up is 50.0 grains of this magic, right here. IMR3031. Now, there are THREE different loadings of 45-70 that you need to pay attention to. Trapdoor (lowest loadings), Modern 45-70 (includes all modern Marlins, Remington-Marlins, Rem-Lins, and Mar-Lingtons...), and Ruger #1. That's lowest to highest. You load something from a load reference for a Ruger #1 (strongest chamber there is) and you try to shoot that from your trap-door 45-70... and that trap-door gun will come apart in your face. Pay attention to load references when picking shiit to shoot/load from this beast. I kid you not. I'm loading for the "modern 45-70" and I'm loading on the very, very mild side. I've found references for Modern 45-70 that go up to 56.0 grains of IMR3031 for the 405 grain projectile... I can't even fucking FATHOM that.No way in hell. One of the references I found had a STARTING load of IMR3031 at 51.0 grains... Eff that. I'm at 50.0 grains, and it straight fucks you up. So, by ONE reference, I'm not even at the starting load... This thing just sucks... I'm loading 50.0 grains even of IMR3031under that 405 grain projectile, in new Hornady unprimed brass, standard CCI Large rifle primers, and it can knock a small human right on their ass when they shoot it. What a fucked up cartridge to reload. You can kill people just with the reloads, and the pain they're gonna take - they never have to be hit with the projectile, they just need to be kicked in the heart with the recoil... I'd rather shoot the old Barrett M82 .50 Cal all day long than try to shoot this Mule-ish kicking bastard for AN HOUR. Such a brutal gun. Such a brutal load. Such an absolute blast to try to fire for more than 20 rounds in a string... I love the rifle... Demonic as it is, I just love it... Kinda like my thing for blonde, crazy women... This is my skinny-ass kid shooting these handloads...
  23. Doc didn't tell you that shiit, did he?...
