  1. Invoked... <lmao>
  2. The midlength gas system was borne from the M4A1 and M4, man, plus the application of the 1994 AWB. I was issued an M4A1 in Jan 1995. It's all about distance from barrel end to distance from gas port, and it started with the M16. That's the whole reason the M4 is what it is, and why carbine-length gas systems are what they are - on the 14.5" barrel. It all comes from the M16, 20" barrel, rifle gas system, and THOSE lengths, and it's a direct measurement - for the M4. M4 feedramps came after that one, and those were full-auto derived, due to the shortened barrel, over the 20" M16. Midlength gas came from the ban era, when barrels HAD to be 16". The M4 carbine with carbine gas, the civilian mandate of 16" of barrel - that equals midlength gas systems, almost... M16 with rifle gas, M4 with carbine gas - now you have the 16" requirement on civilians... bump the gas tube length. Midlength gas was born... Combine MORE worlds nowadays - 14.5s with midlength gas are FUCKIN SWEET! That's how all that $hit went down. No joke, no lie...
  3. Strictly from a point of maneuverability - yes, it does make a *huge-impact* type of difference. To further the point of maneuverability, when that is the KEY point of a military weapons system, that is the whole reason for the development of the Mk18 system - with a 10.3" barrel.

Best write-up I've seen so far on this bull$hit... I hope this fat fucker fries for this... http://www.mcall.com/news/breaking/mc-pa-fake-army-ranger-impersonated-cop-in-2003-20141203-story.html#page=1

If he was on fire, I wouldn't piss on him to put him out...
  6. Your 16" barrel is gonna be about 17.5" with it's muzzle device attached...
  7. I think he just bought this one...
  8. Maneuverability. Colt never made the M4A1 or the M4 with a 16" barrel. Period.
  9. ^^^ That's the short version, and dead nuts on.
  10. If I understand this correctly, you will trade that lower for a receiver extension and stock. EDIT - I will buy buttstock parts and send them to you in trade for a lower, but you just need to clarify the parts you need. List them out.
  11. Sounds like the M4 carbine right there, from your description. Which has a 14.5" barrel. Make it legal and pin it with an extended muzzle device, to make it civilian-legal without the SBR tax stamp. Pick your parts carefully, and you'll never have to change a thing. I have several 14.5" pinned carbines - I don't change them up. I built them the way they needed to be built. They each have their purpose. <thumbsup>
  12. What is the overall intent of this rifle? Sounds like you want a carbine. If you want a carbine, then build a carbine, and make that bastard as short as possible, legally. If you want something longer than that - then build it next... There's no "universal upper" out there. Once you decide on what you need/want, then you don't need to change parts around, change gas blocks, change barrels, etc. You build another upper for an idea like that. Changing this much means a new upper. Which means a new rifle.
  13. That cannelure isn't there for COAL on 300BLK loads, brother. You sometimes need to adjust. That's there for .308 Win loads, for military loads. Nobody else uses a cannelure, but the .mil... EDIT - Example here, on my 150gr loads - barely even touch the cannelure when I get the COAL that I need/want...
  14. Yep. You've all heard "Hell hath no fury like a scorned woman," right? Well, she tried to play that. In reality, Hell hath no fury like a pissed off Ranger. I'll make sure I do everything I legally can to recoup what is owed back. Everything. I don't know "quit." <thumbsup>
  15. This recall happened on or about 10 Aug 2014. I can't believe that MSN/CNBC decided to cover it YESTERDAY. Fucking idiots.
  16. Do the 14.5" barrel with a pinned, extended muzzle device. You'll be happier in the long run. If you can find a 14.5" barrel with midlength gas system, you will really, really be impressed with how it shoots. I set Pinky up that way, and the damn thing is one of my favorite rifles... <lmao>
  17. The AR rifles I've built for accuracy have stainless barrels. 18.5" .308 AR with FA Criterion barrel. 5.56 Woody NM rifle, with Wilson Arms 20" 1:8 .223 Wylde chamber, 5.56 16" precision gun with Wilson Arms 16" 1:8 .223 Wylde chamber, 5.56 Mk12 Mod 0 with Wilson Arms 18" 1:8 .223 Wylde chamber. ^^^ You should see a pattern there... Those 5.56 rifles are ridiculous-accurate with anything from 69gr to 77gr ammo. The 18" Mk12 does amazing things with my Varget-55gr loads, too. The Fulton barrel on the .308 is just straight badass. Doesn't matter what it's shooting. "Stainless Steel Barrel Day At The Range" with me is a fucking hoot, man. <thumbsup>
  18. No chance on that now - she shows up, and she gets some special LEO Bracelets... :))
  19. The BCM lightweight barrels are badass - I used their lightweight 14.5" carbine barrel on my son's rifle, with their pinned A2X flash suppressor. Great barrel...
  20. ALWAYS clothing optional, bro... <lmao>
  21. YES!!!! Damn, that place is incredible!!! Thank you for those pics, man - what a great setup. <thumbsup>
  22. ^^^ Nope, there's no TDP to follow like there is for the M16/M4, because there were never multiple providers for the SASS. Since KAC was the single-source provider, the .mil hasn't stated a TDP to run from. There are no blueprints to follow for the .308 ARs.
  23. ^^^ There he goes... $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ Like a heavy rain, dripping off the leaves... <lmao>
  24. ^^^ I hope YOUR bank account is ready for all this, once you see his barrel work, man!!! <lmao> You'll be sending $hit out left and right... :hethan:
