  1. The Army issued rear sight fills the bill nicely. It's the MaTech. Search it out. You're not gonna be dead-on with your ranging impacts if you're using it for .308 Win, as it's designed for 5.56 NATO.

    PT

US Army Ranger School will hook your a$s up in a hurry. Not for the weak or faint hearted... <thumbsup>
  3. This particular platform is not the M1 or M1A, also. Big difference.
  4. Interesting - never seen the tool to do this, though it exists for the 5.56 rifles... Basically, your upper has been lapped.
  5. You're passing up a great barrel, based on that. Which doesn't matter, by the way...
  6. Tapered pins are a big deal, and alignment is critical, but Rainier Arms sells the jig that makes that particular job easy. With that thing, you can do it at home - with a hand drill. <thumbsup> I'll never pay someone to do something for me when I can buy the tools to complete that job, and spend the same amount or a little more. By doing it myself, even buying the tool, I've added a capability. Even if I only use it once.
  7. Had to put the necessary steps into that adventure to make it most accurate. Sorry for adding to your post Rob, but you left a few key steps out... <lmao>
  8. Fulton Armory, too.
  9. Fuckin Awesome Rifle. <thumbsup>
  10. Found 2 boxes of .224" Barnes 70gr TSX projectiles a few days ago, on the shelf. Snatched those bastards up quick. I haven't seen those projectiles in over 2 years.
  11. Some 180s you can get mag length, most 180s, you can't. 175s are the most common heavy load, because almost all 175s can get to mag length.
  12. I can't wait to see this beast completed - and I understand the time involved, not pushing you at all. I know ONE fella here that will rip his zipper when this thing is done... <lmao> <laughs>

    Ruger SR-762

Solid rifle - got Ron (TAZ, my local brother, not R2 the East Coast Hippy) out with it once here, and we've both been busy since. It's a damn good shooting machine. I need to go back and review pics and get info up on that thing.
  14. He's about to snap...
  15. Damn glad to see you back, brother! Did you get her that pistol yet?... <dontknow> >:D
  16. Don't complicate $hit with complicated $hit. Build your rifle with a standard gas block and see if the thing functions. If it does, you've removed a complicated part (more than one piece involved) that could cause a problem later down the road, with wear. If you think you need it after you build the rifle, that's another thing altogether.
  17. DPMS type above is still just an AR15 mag release. That's the entire reason you don't take the AR15 mag release to "flush" with the button when putting it in a .308 AR (like you would on a typical AR build). Armalite fixed that for the AR10, and took the time to make it a little longer, and you take the button flush on their part (but not others). Armalite really does go the extra mile on .308 stuff. Their lower receiver parts really are superior for this platform, because of that.
  18. This is the difference between what most people would think is a CNS shot - the brain is the main part of the Central Nervous System, right?! No, it's not. At least, not every part of the brain. When it's headshot time, you cannot count on just any part of the head. That's where the T-Zone comes in (from the front), or the top of their ear (from the side), or directly in the middle of their head (from the rear). You need to fuk up the Medulla Oblongata - the brain stem. Park 'em. <thumbsup>
  19. ^^^ Ares is good stuff, so far. Picked up one of his 5.56 NiB BCGs, and it's good.

  21. He liked his barrel so much that he had to order another one... <lmao>
  22. Jab and weave, jab and weave - love it! <lmao>
  23. Vids, brother, vids. <thumbsup>
  24. The only thing about "stopping power" that I will add is this: You cannot park someone permanently, in the very position where they stand or sit, unless you make a CNS or T-Zone hit. Period. If you do make the CNS or T-Zone hit, they will never, ever move again. If you can't make shots like that on a flat range, you'll never be able to make those shots (intentionally) under stress. Even if you can make those shots on a flat range, you probably won't be able to (intentionally) make them under stress. You need to gain proficiency on the flat range, and hone your skills with stressors included into your training. You might get lucky, though - even a blind monkey finds a banana once in awhile... <lmao>
