Montana, when you go to order this, if you order it from TImney, they will set it whatever pull weight you want before they ship it - when I called them about mine, I called early, and they told me "they'd have it built bu noon" that day. I think they build them when you order them. Not sure on that. Also, if you're up in the air about the flat trigger (the 517), and it's a tough call for you because you're using a curved stock trig (Timney's curved 700 trigger is the 510) - do not hesitate one bit to go with the flat trigger. I'm so damn glad I got that over the curved trigger. The damn this is great in every way, and the price ain't really that bad. I'm equating my price on it to having the rifle down for three weeks doing the recall fix - one week to get it to them, one week for them to fix it, and a final week for them to get my whole rifle back to me (guesstimate on past repair work times). At $135 on the Timney, that would be about $6.50 a day for Remington to do the work. I'd rather fork over the money, have a better trigger, and my rifle never left my compound. <thumbsup>

You can't make a pistol build come to 26" or over with the 11.5" barrel, it's short of it. Unless your muzzle device is pinned. The measurement is from the end of the bare barrel (unless pinned) to the end of the receiver extension. If it ultimately comes up under 26", with the grip, you've made an AOW - without appropriate paperwork. If it DOES come up over 26", then it's just in the "firearm" category, and that grip would be okay.

^^^ Along with that - The rubber feet on the Harris make it difficult to load, in a benchrest situation - seems that they would grip concrete good, but they really don't. Very smooth concrete is worse - They slide forward. Stick that Harris in the dirt and rocks, and it does much better. <thumbsup>

I've got 3 different 1:8 twist barrels, all of them stainless, and from Wilson Arms. The 16" works best (only talking about accuracy testing here) with 68 or 69 grain OTM projectiles. The 18" doesn't care if it's shooting 68/69 or 75/77gr projectiles - it loves them both. The 20" is the same way, but my best results from it are Hornady 75gr HPBT Match projectiles. It shoots those better than it shoots 77gr Mk 262 ammo. You'll have to test it out, but the best accuracy for you will probable be the 68/69 grain stuff on that 14.5 incher. Militarily, the M4A1 with the heavy barrel and a 1:7 twist loves the hell out of Mk262 77gr ammo. That's damn near a match made in heaven, right there. That'll all come down to the barrel, primarily - haven't seen a single bad thing out there about the Voodoo barrels, so it should be a good one for you.

Out of spec upper or lower - you'll need to list the manufacturers of your upper and lower, when you start that thread. We've seen it before. You'll need the Tubb CWS to fix it. It's your buffer retaining pin that's damaging the buffer face, most likely, because the bolt carrier isn't making contact with it on a closed receiver.

N Jensen, I was hoping you'd see this thread - but I think you stopped reading that article too soon - this was in there: 2 minutes of change between the 26"-barreled rifles and his 18" barrel, at 920 yards, with the same ammunition (Black Hills 175gr Match). With the difference between a 26" barrel and an 18" barrel being 2 minutes of come-up at 920 yards, what's the sense in hauling around a rifle with a 26" barrel?... If you think the training or information at GPS Defense, and their sniper class, is wrong, then you might be qualified, as an F-Class competitor, to critique it. I think you should attend it. Worst possible scenario in the whole exercise - you might pick up an additional skill somewhere...

5.56 rifle here? Don't worry about accuracy from the 14.5" on a 5.56 gun. Several of us here had a little competition a couple years back, whacking steel at 575 yards, with a mini red dot. Militarily, in my past life, I'd take the guys to the KD range and have them shooting for groups at the 600 yard targets, with issued M4A1s, both iron sights and Aimpoints. What kind of distance are you looking for from a 14.5" barrel, and inside of that question, are you hunting at those distances? Thinking ethical kill, here. Gonna have to have the right barrel twist rate and the right ammo out to certain distances.

Couldn't get to work today - going in through the Res, road was shut down. Called in to tell them I'd be late, no idea when I'd get in because I had to turn around - they told me I-10 was closed, and not to worry about it. Free day off, in a way. $hit was bad, with some areas getting 5" of rain dumped on them.

^^^ Probably the tab on the back of the mag, that prevents over-insertion. Had to trim those tabs a little on my 5.56 Gen 3 20-rounders, to get them to work in the Noveske flared forged lower.
