No minimum overall length, but once a pistol hits the 26" mark, BATFE says it can't be easily concealed, and it ceases to be a "pistol" anymore, based on the "easily concealed" criteria. Once it crosses 26", it then just becomes "Firearm" - not "pistol" anymore. You can put a vertical foregrip on a "Firearm," but you cannot put a vertical foregrip on a "pistol." That's the difference between the two. Also, by "registered," are you talking about the 4473 block that you check? Or are you talking about registration, like local and state laws? Any stripped lower that goes on a 4473 should now be checked as "Other." It's a stripped receiver - it's not a pistol and it's not a rifle. It's just "Other" on the form now.

buffer face is getting chewed up

Tubb CWS. Keep that buffer, once you use the CWS it won't take anymore punishment. http://www.davidtubb.com/carrierweight-ar15 Writeup about it: -
Holy shits, that thing is nice. <thumbsup>

To a degree - the 26" restriction is there on pistol builds. If it's registered and built as a pistol, the 26" restriction is very, very much in effect - nothing exempt at all about the 26". Once you cross the 26" length, it's not considered "concealable" in the eyes of the ATF, therefore it is not a pistol anymore. It's simply a "Firearm." There's no restriction on what you can add to a Registered SBR. Pick your barrel length, pick your furniture, whatever you want on the basic SBR itself. ^^^ Blue nailed it.

buffer face is getting chewed up

Your buffer isn't getting pushed off the retaining pin by the upper receiver, when the upper receiver closes on the lower receiver. Everytime the bolt carrier goes all the way forward, it's not keeping the buffer from running into the retaining pin. It's a machining issue. Pics are necessary, of the buffer face, for confirmation of this. We have seen this before - the first time it occurred here, it was on a IRA matched set (lower and upper). The CMMG part and the POF part are not playing well together. I thought the POF stuff was proprietary? Meaning, they're stuff doesn't match any other manufacturer out there. Gonna have to see pics of how those two mate together. If they match up, and it's machining differences, you can use the Tubb Carrier Weight System to fix the problem. If they don't match up perfectly, you need to pick which one you like the best, and buy the corresponding "other part." -
I'm glad you responded, N Jensen. Out of all the F-Class people here, you're honestly the only one that has lasted, and isn't a complete ass. I'm honestly glad you're here, no kidding. I think survivalshop said it best, still.

Montana, when you go to order this, if you order it from TImney, they will set it whatever pull weight you want before they ship it - when I called them about mine, I called early, and they told me "they'd have it built bu noon" that day. I think they build them when you order them. Not sure on that. Also, if you're up in the air about the flat trigger (the 517), and it's a tough call for you because you're using a curved stock trig (Timney's curved 700 trigger is the 510) - do not hesitate one bit to go with the flat trigger. I'm so damn glad I got that over the curved trigger. The damn this is great in every way, and the price ain't really that bad. I'm equating my price on it to having the rifle down for three weeks doing the recall fix - one week to get it to them, one week for them to fix it, and a final week for them to get my whole rifle back to me (guesstimate on past repair work times). At $135 on the Timney, that would be about $6.50 a day for Remington to do the work. I'd rather fork over the money, have a better trigger, and my rifle never left my compound. <thumbsup>

You can't make a pistol build come to 26" or over with the 11.5" barrel, it's short of it. Unless your muzzle device is pinned. The measurement is from the end of the bare barrel (unless pinned) to the end of the receiver extension. If it ultimately comes up under 26", with the grip, you've made an AOW - without appropriate paperwork. If it DOES come up over 26", then it's just in the "firearm" category, and that grip would be okay.

We're gonna get some mileage outta that jackass... <lmao>

Get that grip off that pistol. Fast.

Heall yeah! You accidentally shits a good one!... <lmao> Awesome find, in those shits!...

^^^ Along with that - The rubber feet on the Harris make it difficult to load, in a benchrest situation - seems that they would grip concrete good, but they really don't. Very smooth concrete is worse - They slide forward. Stick that Harris in the dirt and rocks, and it does much better. <thumbsup>

I've got 3 different 1:8 twist barrels, all of them stainless, and from Wilson Arms. The 16" works best (only talking about accuracy testing here) with 68 or 69 grain OTM projectiles. The 18" doesn't care if it's shooting 68/69 or 75/77gr projectiles - it loves them both. The 20" is the same way, but my best results from it are Hornady 75gr HPBT Match projectiles. It shoots those better than it shoots 77gr Mk 262 ammo. You'll have to test it out, but the best accuracy for you will probable be the 68/69 grain stuff on that 14.5 incher. Militarily, the M4A1 with the heavy barrel and a 1:7 twist loves the hell out of Mk262 77gr ammo. That's damn near a match made in heaven, right there. That'll all come down to the barrel, primarily - haven't seen a single bad thing out there about the Voodoo barrels, so it should be a good one for you.

My North Korean tactic of Propaganda is working then... Leaflets from the sky... <thumbsup> How far did it get, to get to you? I launch them from Arizona. Out of spec upper or lower - you'll need to list the manufacturers of your upper and lower, when you start that thread. We've seen it before. You'll need the Tubb CWS to fix it. It's your buffer retaining pin that's damaging the buffer face, most likely, because the bolt carrier isn't making contact with it on a closed receiver.

Just the stock, or the whole lower, brother? These are the guys now - GWACS Armory: http://www.gwacsarmory.com/

N Jensen, I was hoping you'd see this thread - but I think you stopped reading that article too soon - this was in there: 2 minutes of change between the 26"-barreled rifles and his 18" barrel, at 920 yards, with the same ammunition (Black Hills 175gr Match). With the difference between a 26" barrel and an 18" barrel being 2 minutes of come-up at 920 yards, what's the sense in hauling around a rifle with a 26" barrel?... If you think the training or information at GPS Defense, and their sniper class, is wrong, then you might be qualified, as an F-Class competitor, to critique it. I think you should attend it. Worst possible scenario in the whole exercise - you might pick up an additional skill somewhere...
-
Fixed that for ya, brother... What did you expect?... <dontknow>

5.56 rifle here? Don't worry about accuracy from the 14.5" on a 5.56 gun. Several of us here had a little competition a couple years back, whacking steel at 575 yards, with a mini red dot. Militarily, in my past life, I'd take the guys to the KD range and have them shooting for groups at the 600 yard targets, with issued M4A1s, both iron sights and Aimpoints. What kind of distance are you looking for from a 14.5" barrel, and inside of that question, are you hunting at those distances? Thinking ethical kill, here. Gonna have to have the right barrel twist rate and the right ammo out to certain distances.

Adam and I will just need a pic together at a shoot-fest, so Matt can finally rest at night... <lmao>

<lmao> So, on the eye doc forum, you are "Armed Eye Doc" - just the name alone, that HAS to piss them off in firearms threads... I'm in tears thinking about it - Love it!!! <laughs>
