blue109
I've been working on a first aid kit for a while, and I think its getting pretty respectable. wanted something I could throw in the car on vacations or bring to the range and be prepared for a sliver or shooting my toe off. the extent of my medical training is uncle sams combat lifesaver a decade ago, and YouTube. anybody have any experience with a good first aid booklet or manual that isn't too big? any of you medical field guys have suggestions for things that should be in a general use kit? planeflyer21
One of our instructors is a former TFD paramedic. You probably have a good grasp on what is needed for the range: bandages and torniquets. While the clotting agents are effective in life saving, he says the medical community stateside is getting irritated with their increased use for anything and everything. They are trying to get the word out: if you can get seen by professional medical help within the "golden hour", do NOT use the clotting agent. If it is used it needs to be cleaned out, which adds time to the medical team working on you/the injured. One of my friends ran the NRA Shooting Camp over summer at Whittington for a decade. He is quite insistent that EVERY medical kit needs an Epipen. Or four. After our last Marana outing, with two people getting stung by bees in winter, I agree. Laugh if you want but the best field manual for first aid you can get is the Boy Scout Handbook (I'm advised the 9th edition or older is the way to go). 98Z5V
I'll get pics up here. I have several different medical kits, of various sizes, and purposes. Long story short, there are two things you need to be able to handle - bleeding, and airway management. Everything else can wait, but those two things can't wait. blue109
I have a few standard options for bleeding. for airway, I have one of those up-the-nose breathing tubes. def. like to see some pics though. I'm just using an old combat lifesaver bag at the moment. nothing fancy. Edited January 31, 2015 by blue109

392heminut
Wife carries a full trama pack can stitch ,clot, airway colapsed lung whatever... I keep her happy..... :) My wife used to also, I don't know why she quit. She was an EMT and now an RN with wound care training and worked for a surgeon for several years. I would rather have her working on me that some docs!
