98Z5V
Paper clip. Push the end of the paper clip through the hole in the front of the pivot pin - use the paper clip to depress the detent far enough to turn the body of the pivot pin. Once it's turned, cover the end (because that damn detent will FLY!!!) and pull the pin out slowly. Voila. Finished.
crimsonfalcon07
Nice tip. Also, hooray for someone who knows how to spell "voila." I read an article in Guns America or something similar today in which the author spelled it "whalla." I'm sure the guy knows his guns, but it's still nice to see someone who doesn't spell phonetically.
ironmonster
I like to say " Veoolaa" say it like its spelled instead of correctly pronouncing it "Whalla" Of course no one but me gets it
Robocop1051
If that detent pin flies out... it's gone forever. I'm just sayin. Been there. Done that.
blue109
I put on an old pair of boots to do some yard work last weekend and found a buffer detent inside one of them. I tore my workshop apart looking for that stupid thing last year. drove me insane. local shop didnt have any in the parts box so I ordered 5 of them with springs so I always have spares. 98Z5V
I've actually got a tool to take out and install those things on the 308 ARs. One side removes, the other side helps install.
slugger43
I have an extra buffer detent spring because it landed next to my foot after it launched the buffer detent. Bought some extra everything-that-flies parts after that. Yuk! At the time I was not aware that everyone has done that at least once, it seems. Still feels dumb. AngelDeVille
The only time I ever sent a pivot detent pin flying was the one and only time I tried using the "proper" tool. I'll never make that mistake again!
MikedaddyH
Always have extra detents and springs before you start ! Tom that tool you gave me has been used at lease 15 to 20 times ! It's so much easier than a razor blade and a tiny screwdriver.
