dogubit
Hi, thanks for letting me in. I'm in need of an over size charge handle latch for my DPMS slick side ultra high reciever to make getting to it a bit easer because of scope clearence and am kind of at a loss as to what will fit and what will not. May be a stupid question, but will the latch's from AR15 and AR10 interchange? I'm no gunsmith, but it would seem that this would be a simple change out, if I knew what to purchase and most sites seem a bit lacking in information from my perspective and limited knowlege. So can anyone offer some advice please? Thanks for reading and any info you may be able to offer.
HansRey
The ar 15 charging handle will NOT work on the ar10 due to the size of the bolt it self. You would need an ar10 specific handle. I know BCM makes some large ones. http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/BCMGUNFIGHTER-Charging-Handle-s/123.htm Do keep in mind you want one for 7.62/.308, not 5.56/.223 Also Welcome from Colorado! survivalshop
The actual latches are the same for both AR 15 & 308AR's , the charging handle itself is longer on the 308AR's & the over sized latches do help . I noticed abnormal wear on the one side of the the charging handle channel from the side torque increase from the one I had . I have a photo I think some where or I can take another . May I recommend a complete replacement to a Ambidextrous over sized charging Handle from http://mechdefense.com. I have them in almost all my AR's . He is a sight supporter & their charging handles make it so easy to cycle the handle . Check them out .

I can pull mine back with one finger and easy to grab with scope in the way
AdamO
What they said. Go with the TacOps! I love mine. And if you ever get caught in a gunfight with aliens (or Mexicans) you can use it as a Tomahawk if you run out of ammo!! It also splits wood!<lmao> All joking aside... it is a seriously awesome charging handle and I've been very pleased with my decision to purchase one for my .308. Eventually all of my ARs will have one. ;) Edited March 16, 2015 by AdamO

AngelDeVille
I bought a cheap ass one for my scoped ar15, from fleabay, and I like it better than the expensive one on my ar10. I just bought the latch, they aren't hard to change. Edited March 17, 2015 by AngelDeVille
blue109
I've tried the latch. gets the job done if you don't want to spend any money. always felt like it was pulling to the side and dragging on the upper though. I have BCM large latches on all my 5.56 guns and a raptor on my 308. they feel much better.
EasyEJL
I like the rainier arms raptor but its also top of the heap price wise
FaRKle!
I use BCM 7.62 mod 3 (large latch) handles on my .308s.
blue109
if they made the ambi bcm in 7.62 I would have gone that route, but the raptor is really nice. I like that you can grab it any way from either side.
dogubit
Okay, thanks to all who responded. I will look into your recomendations, think for now will just grab a latch first and maybe upgrade the full handle later. Thank you.
98Z5V
BCM large latch latches in all but two AR15s. Jake's is a BCM Ambi medium latch setup, which is sweet. The one remaining is a Colt handle with a Badger Ordnance Tac Latch in it. Unit armorer gave it to me out of my work M4 when I left. He said "it needed to be replaced, anyway..." <lmao> The .308 wears the TacOps charging handle. OP, I'd try this one to start off - get a full handle later. This link is to the whole handle - you can get just the latch and put it in yourself - goes for about $20. https://www.badgerordnance.com/products/tactical-charging-handle-gen-1-latch-new-2/
Morgan
I had a similar issue and bought one from a recommended site. It would not fit my DPMS LR308B because of the areas shown in the pic. I carefully used a super fine file and worked the areas of concern, shown. It works fine now, but as you can see, it does not have as much front meat as the OE handle. I lube this highly when I clean it, so as to keep it slick.
