Token Posted April 4, 2015 Report Posted April 4, 2015 Hello! I recently got myself a DPMS LR308 AP4 rifle and I'm eager to learn all about what I can do with it. Looks like plenty of great info here...
Bad Wolf Posted April 4, 2015 Report Posted April 4, 2015 You can own guns in Canada? Lol welcome from Texas
blue109 Posted April 4, 2015 Report Posted April 4, 2015 don't talk smack...they may have some hoops to jump through for gun ownership....but they can have all the short barrels and suppressors they want with no added hassle if I'm not mistaken
planeflyer21 Posted April 4, 2015 Report Posted April 4, 2015 Welcome from AZ! They also can get Polytech M14s (or at least could, WELL after Clinton banned their importation).
Token Posted April 4, 2015 Author Report Posted April 4, 2015 You can own guns in Canada? Lol welcome from Texas Haha...yes we can.... As friend Blue109 says, we have some serious [and senseless] restrictions on firearms and their usage here, but at the same time, we have some perks that Americans might envy. Norinco guns are everywhere..forged steel 1911s for ~C$360, M1A clones for ~$600, etc. Norc guns often need some tweaking, but even with a couple of hundred bucks of work, they are a great deal. Shorty shotguns are no big deal here...semi-autos need to have 18"+ barrels, but pumps and breakers can be ridiculously short...as long as the overall lenght is 26"+. I have a Norinco clone 870 with an 8.5" barrel...an unrestricted firearm, so anybody with a basic gun licence [some serious bureacratic hoops to jump through but not too hard to get] can own one. Fun, fun and summer's coming!

I was under the impression Canada was almost completely anti-gun. I figured only a few hunting rifles and shotguns.
planeflyer21 Posted April 4, 2015 Report Posted April 4, 2015 Not to mention, Canada is either going to or just did scrap their long-gun registry and is looking to scrap the handgun registry also.

Token Posted April 5, 2015 Author Report Posted April 5, 2015 Can you carry guns in Alberta? CCW is technically possible, but our ruling gun bureaucrat [seriously, the Chief Firearms Officer] has discretion to disallow it in nearly all cases. If you're a judge or connected lawyer or some other member of the power structure whose life has been seriously threatened you _might_ get an ATC [Authorization to Carry]. Ditto trappers or prospectors in the far north, although this is heavily restricted too. I'm an armoured truck crewman, but I am allowed to carry only my employer's issue pistol [M&P40] while I'm on duty, and it gets locked up at work at the end of my shift. Restricted firearms [pistols, AR rifles and some other semi-auto rifles and shotguns with short barrels] can only be fired at ranges approved by the CFO. Restricted guns have to be transported with trigger locks on in a locked case, and only to locations allowed by permit...oh, and restricted guns have to be registered in a national database. Unrestricted firearms [generally hunting rifles and shotguns] can be transported unlocked but unloaded unless you are actually hunting or shooting. 'Carrying' for the purpose of protection is generally illegal, although you can get away with a long gun in bear or cougar territory...usually. Taken as a whole, the Canadian Firearms Act [federal Criminal Code] is a minefield of confusing legal restrictions with draconian penalties. Getting caught in possession of a firearm without a licence IN YOUR POCKET is an automatic 3-year sentence, so ya better not forget your wallet...or your registration certificates, or your Authorization to Transport paperwork when you go to the range. and so on and so forth. It's about what you'd expect of legislation written by people who hate guns and gun owners, but know it would be politically dangerous to go for an outright ban.... Our National Firearms Association [and others] is working hard to get the law changed to things that make sense [CCW is a distant dream, however] and our Conservative federal government makes friendly noises but there's a long road ahead before things get better. [To be fair, they did abolish the long gun registry, but since every gun owner has to have a licence, it's not like they have no idea where to look for guns anymore].

unforgiven Posted April 6, 2015 Report Posted April 6, 2015 Who knows with terrorist running amuck things might have a chance to change.By the time protection shows up it's to late.
Token Posted April 8, 2015 Author Report Posted April 8, 2015 ha! a fellow Brinks employee I presume? does it suck as bad up there as it does down here? Hey brother! It does kinda suck here, but I've had worse jobs, and I've got enough seniority to stay out of the worst runs. I just worry about the future of the industry. A few more technological tweaks and hardly anybody will bother with cash any more...and then there won't be enough work to keep the business going. I'm about seven years from bailing out with a pension, so I guess we'll see how it goes.
blue109 Posted April 8, 2015 Report Posted April 8, 2015 we just got our first "one man crew" trucks down here in Arizona. screw that. I drop applications every weekend. I don't mind the job, just despise the management from branch level up. I fantasize about the day I get to show up and drop my uniforms on the ground and throw up the deuce.
washguy Posted April 8, 2015 Report Posted April 8, 2015 Well this settles it when our country finishes going to crap I know where I'm going. Im right behind ya brother! :) wash
