My old man drank it from the late 60's to the 90's, he has a beard but that's about as close to that description as he gets. The only reason he doesn't still drink it is he went "light", so he could drink more ;)

On facebook a guy was trying to sell a stripped noveske upper and lower for $750. I think that they are both in stock and $150 online...

I did some research on whether or not Noveske makes their upper and lowers in house, or whether they just stamp their logos on like everyone else.

As it turns out, they just stamp their logos on like everyone else, and their lower is manufactured by cmc with a high shelf... I would have thought that at least they would be a low shelf...

So, in the process of everyone flaming the guy for being a con artist, he said "Its a Noveske thing, you either get it, or you don't"

I guess I don't... It would never be worth it to me to purchase a "Noveske Part" that is no higher quality than any other part for 6 times retail, just because it says Noveske...

The first experience I had with Noveske was when I was at the range shooting with you guys in Tucson. The dang sling stud broke because their was slag in the threads, so the only threads that were engaging stripped.

Customer service was good though.

But I just wont get it. I wont pay Ferrari price for a civic with a Ferrari label.

I know that Noveske builds good parts, and outside of my distaste for their advertisement, I would purchase said parts.

But I will not pay way more than the actual value of any item because their name is on it.

The bottom line at the end of the day, is I guess that I am one of the guys that doesn't get it.

(I am sure that that Noveske roll mark is good for resale value though, that is not something that I consider)

It come down to this, for a full rifle:

You can buy a rifle from Vulcan/Hesse/Whatever.  You can buy a rifle from Noveske or LaRue.

You will pay a difference.

There will be a quality difference.

You will have to worry about one, and not the other.

There are companies in between, and their prices reflect it, too.

Tom I also agree with you when it comes to buying a full rifle, but I haven't bought a full AR type rifle in years. The last full rifle I got was the LR308 that my wife & Josh bought me. I like building my own too much and I don't mind spending money on good barrels and triggers but I can't see spending the difference between a lower receiver that says Noveske over what an Anderson receiver costs. Maybe after 10's of thousands of rounds the more expensive receiver will be in better shape, but realistically I'm never going to shoot 10's of thousands of rounds through any one rifle of mine.

  • 5 years later...

Revisiting this thread, I thought I'd add some information.

Back in the day, there was a place called Stubborn Mule Outdoor Supply.  Sounds innocent, right?  SMOS made all of the Noveske receivers.  Period.  All of them.  Back in the day.

Well, there's something else about SMOS - they made all of the LaRue receivers, too, before LaRue starting machining their own.  Yeah, for real.

SMOS was/is no small rinky-dink place - they made the receivers for two companies that have the highest/tightest tolerances in the marketplace.  Way back in the day, I almost pulled the trigger on one of the SMOS-branded lowers (SMOS Arms, then) that they offered, that were identical to the LaRue lowers - and LaRue wasn't selling lower receivers then.  Only way to get one from LaRue was buy a full gun - back then.  Decided I'd wait to the next paycheck - and they were gone from the SMOS website then.  FML..

There's a storyline behind what SMOS makes and sells now - and you better believe that what they market now, is VERY high quality parts.
