blue109
Gotta admit, I never even heard about it until this thread. Looks like a nice gun, but nothing you couldn't piece together. Why oh why does DPMS use that railed gas block that is shorter than the upper?
jcw556
Looked at piecing together. Didn't look like much savings once added up. But sure beats "out of stock".
blue109
In the 308 world, building seldom equates to saving. Its usually more expensive. The up side is that you get exactly what you want and don't nickel and dime yourself with upgrades.
jcw556
Good point. One reason I like dpms 3g1 is it's got what I want and no more. Although I agree on gas block.
survivalshop
I can see the use of a railed gas block in certain circumstances , but ya , why partially under the rail one ? That JP Hand Guard has the ability to have a full rail ( about $ 95, I have two ) & shorter rails that can be added to the Hand Guard , so why the Railed Gas block ? It may be enough to put a BUIS on , but why . Is that made on the GII Receivers ? Edited October 7, 2015 by survivalshop
shepp
Is that made on the GII Receivers ?it's not in the GII section so I'm assuming no
beachmaster
In my original search for a 308 ar, this is the rifle that I ended up wanting. I found one, and had a chance to purchase it... Then the GII platform came out.I talked to dpms about whether or not they had planned on coming out with the 3g1 in the GII platform, and they put me under the impression that eventually they will. The 3g might be a slow seller, therefor hard to find now. If you contact a trusted dealer, I am sure that they can order it for you!As far as the railed gasblock, I am sure that dpms got a good deal on that handguard in bulk, and had a million railed gas blocks lying around, and figured "why not"I really like this model.Which is why that is similar to how I am building my gii ;-)
shibiwan
it's not in the GII section so I'm assuming noThe lowers look like they are the GII variety so I'm assuming they are built on the GII platform. Look at the section behind the pistol grip and how it extends straight back - that's a GII.I checked with my distros and even the GII models are out of stock. beachmaster
No, these might be different, but they aren't on a GII lower, at least not yet ;-)They have been around for quite awhile now.
shibiwan
....going by the pic that Tom posted in the first reply....perhaps they are in the process of changing to the GII.
shepp
This is what I based my answer off its listed here with all the first gen dpms rifles http://www.dpmsinc.com/308-WIN-762-NATO-16-18_ep_190-1.html the GII's all are listed herehttp://dpms-gii.com/full.html#configurations
shibiwan
Got an email from one of my distros. The DPMS 308's are coming back in stock next week. Going to check to see if they get a 3G1
Crankbait
FWIW, I built out my Gen2 Recon to 3 gun specs. And it's a real shooter. Since it's a Gen 2, I used AR 15 Geisselle trigger and AR15 Nordic Components extended free float tube rail. Very affordable.
