shepp
so the small portion of my taxes were returned to me last night so I'm hood rich. I got too looking at lowers, and I've wanted to build something for awhile. What's the pro's and con's of billet and forged lowers? Looking at AR15 Midwest Industries (they're close, I can drive there no shipping no transfers). And go!!!thanks
jtallen83
That MI Billet receiver looks sharp to me. If all dimensions and material qualities were equal the forged would be just a bit stronger, you can see their billet is beefier but done in 6061 instead of the 7075 of the forged so it is hard to compare as far as strength goes without having all the dimensions and a metallurgy degree. I think it boils down to paying more for the aesthetics of the billet. The billet does have a few extras like being set up for the 45 degree BadAss selector, flared magwell, and the integral trigger guard on the billet saves holding your breath while you drive the roll pin. From what I've seen of MI products you'll get good quality either way.

Robocop1051
I thought this was for an AR15, not an AR10.I own forged and billet. Normally I buy Anderson or AeroPrecision forged lowers. They usually run about $40. The only time I buy billet, is if they provide a feature that can't be done on a forged lower... like the integral ambi bolt release. And like I said I'm pretty sure I'm going to get a MI lower because I can just go there, do the paper work and get it, no muss no fuss. I was just curious for there was any major difference between the too, but judging by replies it's just preference. btw this is for the arak-21 build I was talking about in the x39 section Edited February 13, 2016 by shepp
MikedaddyH
How about polymer ? Lightweight ,strong and inexpensive.
Robocop1051
Only problem with poly lowers, the good ones cost as much as a high end billet.
