Scorch95
What is everyone's feelings on either the SLR Rifleworks Solo rail vs the Fortis Mfg. Switch rail. At the moment these are my current choices that I'm looking at. Don't get me wrong, I'd love a KAC 7.62 URX 3.1 however the idea of spending twice the rail cost in order to buy the barrel nut wrench is hard to accept. washguy
Scorch nope on the Fortis...on a lot of uppers it leaves a gap when installed...and I dont like the way it mounts to the upper...its a lever not threaded to the upper you can do better Wash

I had been leaning towards the slr rail. I agree that I would prefer a rail that would be threaded to the upper but finding one I like has been challenging. Still have time so I'll keep researching. Throw up any good rails that are recommended if you have a preference.
82HALO
I have a Fortis switch rail that doesn't fit the Aero upper, leaves a gap, so I am on the fence about a SLR rail or a jlbillet, leaning more towards the later. www.jlbillet.com/jl-billet-lr-308-15-angle-cut-m-lok-handguard-high-profile

I got a SLR Solo to replace a misfit Fortis Switch. 100% better fit with the SLR. No gap & no rail height rise or drop. Mine is on a DPMS 7.62 Oracle w/low-profile upper but I got the hi-profile Fortis thinking I had a hi-profile pattern upper (face palm)
Scorch95
Well didn't realize it had been a year since I had been able to get to this but a lot of other life events going on that have removed most of my free time and spending money. I did order a slr solo rail, sentry 7 gas block and AAC brakeout 2.0. Got it together for a quick photo but still needs to be finish assembled. Crappy photo but its progress. Just need an optic and mount and we can go shoot. Will be replacing trigger with a SSA-E as well just haven't gotten there yet. Friend is gonna lend me a primary arms 4-16x42 scope he's really proud of. I will probably end up with something different but if it means finally shooting this thing I'm all for it! Oh and sorry for the thread necromancy.

98Z5V
Right on, man - keep plugging away. For the Primary Arms, run it,and see what you think. The 4~16 was their earlier stuff, and I can personally tell you that their newer 4~14 scopes are badass, for what you're paying. They'd still be badass at 3 times the price. When you run that optic, think about that.
jtallen83
Good things come to those that wait, you are looking pretty good there! I have a PA 4-16 in an ADM 20 MOA mount. Bought them as a display set for under $200. It isn't my best scope but it has held up fine. It gets the same duties you are using your buddies for, testing new rifles. The eye box is small but it does what it is supposed to do and is more than adequate for the 100 yard range I do my test fires on.
Scorch95
Sorry I meant the 4-14x optic. I've been looking at so many different options that numbers bleed together.
Scorch95
I have thought about getting the same scope in an adm recon s mount as I can guarantee that that scope will not be the limiting factor. That would be me lol. This will be my first time shooting with an optic outside of a few shots with my dads deer rifle but never messed with the turrets or anything. Then when or if it does become an issue I would upgrade at that point. I do suffer from upgrade-itis and a case of I-must-haves that are on the aggressive, aka expensive, side. Cough cough Nightforce cough. Edited April 23, 2017 by Scorch95
sketch
Night force funds gonna cost you more than a year?....shoot it !
Scorch95
Nah that was an example. I've mainly been looking at a few scopes from Vortex, Leupold and SWFA. While I would love a nightforce optic it isn't feasible at the moment. We have a new addition to the family and I need to make sure that anything I spend towards this isn't needed somewhere else for him.
Scorch95
Just gotta figure out what I want for a reticle. The ACSS reticle intrigues me but part of me wants a mil dot reticle to learn on. Edited April 23, 2017 by Scorch95
Armed Eye Doc
Congratulations on the youngster! Hopefully you will find the money to have it finished by the time he is ready to shoot it. Kids are expensive.

Scorch95
No new pictures but just an update I did get it fully assembled. Then tore the bolt down to check head space and we are good to go. Got bolt back together minus ejector. Hoping I can do that today but I may have to order a clamp or tool of some kind to hold it while putting pin in if what I have planned fails. Hoping to use a spent .308 round to apply pressure to ejector. We'll see. Hope everyone is well.

I cut the case down so it's all the same diameter (cut the neck off, lose about an inch). Bored a piece of 2x4 for the bolt tail to sit into. Slowly screw it together in the vice jaws to hold it. Done. You'll have to hold the bolt from underneath while tapping the roll pin in, or you'll knock it out of the vice jaws. Easy-peasy... Scorch95
Well here she is all buttoned up. Just need to add some lube I imagine and she's ready to go to the range for test fire. I borrowed a friends PA 4-14x42 ffp Mil/mil scope. He just had base rings so that's what's on it. I'm looking at ordering the American defense recon-s mount for it instead. Also planning on picking up a ssae trigger and Harris bipod as well. It's been a long time coming but I'm almost there I can just about smell the gun powder.
