The first one I saw in the wild was in the stock tank about 200 yards from the house I was living in at the time.  I live about an hour south of Dallas.  It's not well known gator country, but there are some that come up the creeks from the south.

First time I saw a gator in the wild was at park near Ft Stewart GA. He was just lying in the shallow water near the bank with his mouth wide open. I got about ten feet away and couldn't resist throwing a dirt clod, went right in his throat. Amazing how explosive fast they are. Thought I was safe when I got on top of a picnic table but that sucker followed me right up. Lucky for me a buddies car was within a few feet, dented the hood and roof jumping up on it. The gator circled the car twice then slowly made his way back to the water and disappeared! I don't hang out at the edge of any fresh water south of the Mason-Dixon to this day.

Thats sounds like one of 98's stories.:laffs:    :hornet:

I feel for the family that lost their child, but whenever I've been to Florida, I've always operated on one assumption:

If it's not a swimming pool, assume there are alligators in it and stay the hell out of it."

So far it's kept me from being eaten, drowned, etc. by a modern-day dinosaur (or dragon, whichever you prefer).

They pull them out of swimming pools here all the time .

They found the child , intact , they believe he drowned . Gators & Crock's do that , to soften their meal up .

And another thing , we have Sharks around also every where .

And if none of the man-eating critters aren't bad enough, it's the lighting-strikes-people capitol of the whole USA.  I knew a girl that once lived in Menna (I think that's the name) and she said folks get hit there all the time.

Don't get me wrong ... I LOVE FLORIDA ... but I know there's some funky stuff that happens there (as does everywhere) that seems to find it's way in to the media more often.

I'll take Hurricanes , Gators , Snakes ,Sharks & the Heat ,any day to six feet of Snow for three months & sub freezing temp's ( really cuts into riding time, not to mention , Boating time  ) . I grew up in Ohio & as of last year , went to Gun Hunt in Dec. very year since I moved here ,every time , I was glad to get back in  the 70's degree mark .:laffs:

Try a winter in Iowa without paying your bills, only hardy souls can make it without heat! That said our new socialist system is ruining this filter for us.
