hottrodd1090 Posted July 20, 2016 Report Posted July 20, 2016 hello all new to the forum.i have a dpms g2 moe and i am looking for a 7 3/4" buffer tube but it needs to measure 7"s on the inside.the reason is i have a ctr stock for mil spec and the dpms tube is commercial and it measures 7 3/4 total lenght and 7 inches on the inside. it use a 2 1/2" buffer is why it needs to be 7 inches on the inside.thank you all for your advice in advance
Wolfgang1952 Posted July 20, 2016 Report Posted July 20, 2016 Welcome from Louisiana. Cut yourself a broom stick spacer. When I went from a collapsible stock to a rifle stock on my AR15-45. Could not use rifle spring and rifle buffer. Rifle stuff just not compatible with 45acp. Had to stay with the shorter spring and buffer. So I used a piece of broom stick to make the difference in the length of the tubes.

blue109 Posted July 21, 2016 Report Posted July 21, 2016 Just curious why you need that extra .75 on the total external length? Your stock will fit the standard milspec tube at 7.25 just fine. Its the internal depth that's important for function. A VLTOR milspec tube should still be those same dimensions. I have one at home, I'll try and confirm. If you are talking about the VLTOR A5 length receiver extension, it is a little longer internally but fits milspec sized stocks. Same length as the armalite AR10 carbine tube, and designed to be used with a special A5 buffer and spring on an ar15 rifle. I'd personally stick to the standard milspec extension with the standard 7" internal depth, and add the thick shoulder pad to the stock if you need the extra length. No point in rigging stuff with quarters or spacers if you don't need to.

MikedaddyH Posted July 21, 2016 Report Posted July 21, 2016 With that extra play in the sping to buffer area. The effect is the buffer bouncing ,which will destroy the end of the buffer where the weights slide on the inside of the buffer. By placing a few quarters at the back of the RE behind the spring it adds tension to spring and takes away slack of the mismatch or worn part. You will have to experiment with the amount of quarters needed.
