Hey H2O Man, do you think you could take a couple of measurements from that standard profile barrel for me ? I'm thinking about possibly fluting the heavy profile barrel I have planned for my build, for improved heat dissipation and maybe a little weight savings (not much) I figure if I don't go any deeper than a standard profile barrel I won't weaken the barrel excessively. If you can, I'd ask for the OD between  the op rod guide location and that large dia at the chamber end of the barrel  ,the OD between the op rod location and the gas cylinder location, and the length of the large diameter at the back of the barrel where the chamber is.

H2O MAN thanks for help on the SAGE EBR stock Mod 1 information.  I did not go with the newer version with the Magpul PRS II but I went with the Mod 1 with the option for the sliding stock.  I am going to replace it with the regular A2 receiver extension and put a regular PRS stock on it.

Ted Brown is building a rifle for me using the LRB M25 receiver and a heavy Criterion 1x10 twist, 22 inch barrel.  I can't wait.  I am havin him fit the LRB extended rail on the SAGE upper section.

Sorry for the delay, but here are the measurements you requested.

0.7400 down to 0.7105

0.6890 down to 0.6205

2.4420

All measurements are in inches.

I hope that helps,

Very nice!, That's an 18.5" barrel right? Is it one of Smiths Melonite coated barrels? I'm curious as to how accurate they are. I don't see that many guys that seem to be running them. Only thing i might mention is that if You do any run and gun stuff with it, I find that those red dots tend to get banged up when mounted at the front like that, much less prone to damage when you run them back further, like in line with the front of your ptimary optic.

That rail from M14.ca looks like a nice way to mount an optic on a non M25 receiver, I'm looking forward to the release of his Blackfeather stock, I think it may turn out to be a better alternative to the McCann's CF if it turns out to be as light as the developer is claiming. Unfortunatelly, it won't work with my Rear lug receiver, or heavy barrel, so I won't be able to try one out until I build  a second M1A. Good luck with the SEI Sage.

Thank you for the compliment and comments.

The M14.ca mount is awesome and I'm also waiting on a Blackfeather.

The barrel on my Mod 0 is a 2004 medium heavy SEI tube and it has their M80HT.

It's 18.0" long and it's proven itself sub MOA accurate over and over again.

I keep the mRDS way out front to improve the FOV... no run&gun with this rifle.

I'm geting close to finishing this one. I still need to finish chamber it and install the rear sight thats in the mail. I picked up the GI walnut stock to use until I see the JAE (which was the first part I ordered for this project over a year ago) I may refinish that, but at least I've got something to use to function test it.

Thanks,

I'm pretty happy with the way it's come out so far. I'm thinking it looks pretty good for my first ever M1A build. Of course I won't know for sure how well I did until I see how it shoots. I am still hoping to refinish the stock. The rear sight got here yesterday and it was damaged, so that will delay things a bit. If I can get around to finish chambering it this week. I will be ready to try it out once I've got the rear sight mounted.

M25 is ready for function testing. Not sure when I'll get out to the range for that. I have to order some more GMM ammo, and I'd really like to see if I can borrow a suitable optic to see how accurate it is, but at least I'll be able to see how it feeds and ejects. I'm not sure if I'll keep the JP brake on there of switch to a Surefire direct connect. I had also planned for it to be in the JAE stock, but I have yet to see that even though it was the first part I ordered for this project. It has certainly been (and continues to be) a learning experience. I'll tell you this, there is a lot more gunsmithing involved in putting one of these together as compared to an AR.

Thanks much. I have to agree with you, there's something about the stocks of the Garands and M14's (and 1903's)  that gives them a classy appearance. I had originally wanted to build this gun with the idea of using the best components that modern technology had to offer, in order to see just how accurate I could get one to shoot, and that's why I purposely built it to be heavy, and planned to put it in the chassis stock. Since i have no idea how long it may be before my JAE stock gets here, (been over a year already), I figured I'd put it in the GI stock for now. I really like the look of it, but The idea of all of the adjustability of the chassis stock is very attractive as well. It should be interesting to see just how much of an improvement in accuracy I experince when I switch stocks, when/if the other one ever gets here.

I was shooting a friends Garand recently, and now I can't get the idea of owning one out of my head. The only question is do I build or do I buy?  I saw pictures of a Garand recently that had belonged to Jeff Cooper. It had been rinished to an extremely high standard, was engraved, and had a presentation grade stock. Boy was that thing beautiful!!. I've been looking online but so far have been able to relocate the site where I saw the pics.

Jgun, with what you hav e pictured, I'd leave it as-is.  That is one beautiful rifle.  I'm not sure how much the chassis change has over accuracy, but unless you're shooting it for competitions - then what you have built is far more good looking than the current chassis-sets.

Damn, that's one good looking M1-anything.  <thumbsup>
