So, I'm starting off my first .308 build.  Because I'm excited I thought I'd start a thread to share and post my updates.  Plus, I just like sharing my pictures.

Got a CMT .308 builder's set in FDE not long ago.

Offered a slightly used Rainier Arms 16" Ultra Match barrel and it came this week.

Brake should be coming tomorrow.
Not sure what all parts I'll end up using just yet.  There are a few I know I'll end up with.  LMT BCG, adjustable gas block (not sure which), hoping the 308 FCD bolt catch comes out soon.

That is some great photography! Nice parts too!

Thanks!

Just wishing I was putting it together quicker.  Haha.

Hey, what mag catch/bolt catch are you using for that CMT? Thanks.

Waiting to see when the Forward Controls 308 bolt catch/release comes out.
Mag catch... It takes a standard AR15 right?  If it does, Forward Control Design is also working on an ambi release which I'll want.

Ordered an FDE STR stock, K2 grip and the buffer tube/kit today.
Should be here this week.  Not much left.  LPK, optic and gas block/tube.

Well, head spaced and torqued yesterday.  Can't wait to get to the range this weekend!  I realized, taking the pic, I haven't picked up a mag yet... DOH!

Still on the fence about what optic.  Thinking a 1-6x or 1-8x depending on what I can spend.

and since you can't put your scope in the oven, I thought it was a good option.

Says who...  I Cerakoted and baked an EOTech 512.  Twice.

I've got some cheapo scopes. I'll try it with one of them.  I'm still hesitant to put anything high end in the oven.  I've asked some applicators about it and the response was the same. "I can do it but I'm not responsible for your scope."

Licenced Cerakote applicator called Vortex, they told him baking does not void their warranty.

There was just a big discussion about this online somewhere. A guy tried to duracoat and bake a Sig P320 frame and melted it. Another applicator stated that he used cerakote in the same receivers just fine. If I find it it, I'll repost it.

Since the scope in question is a vortex......I stand corrected.  I guess the best thing to do is call the scope manufacturer for your particular scope and find out.

Cerakote doesn't bake over 200, but 160 should suffice....

It bakes at 170 just fine.  Extend the time in the manual. Twice. :laffs:

There's a bunch of different cure times for the H-Series.  Bottom line is experiment, and get your own times down.  The stuff in the Guide is great, and accurate, but if you're baking something "weird," then know what you're doing ahead of time, and adjust accordingly.   If you don't wanna bake it, just use the C-Series.
