308kiwi
A 243 Win upper has been in the pipeline for a while, at last I've finally got all the bit's together. Aero M5E1 upper & bolt group, BAT Machine 308 barrel extension, Syrac adjustable gas block, Barrel is a 1:10 6mm that I salvaged from a re-barrel on an F class bolt rifle, guy I did the work for said "it's had 300 rounds through it, it's toast", OK I said, I'll get rid of it for you Turning and threading the tenon for the barrel extension... Chambering and headspacing.... Made the forend from some 56mm carbon fibre tube, this stuff is hard on cutters, 3 x 8mm carbide cutters later... Had to machine up a spacer to adapt the carbon tube to the upper... Time to load up some rounds and see what it'll do... 95gr RBTHP's that a friend here hand swages from Berger jackets Not so sure this barrel is "toast" just yet :-) Pretty happy with how it turned out..on the bench with it's (possibly now redundant) 308 upper beside it. What do you have going on with the gas tube as it enters the receiver? Never seen anything like that, something to dissipate heat?

Need to take a closer look, local gun pusher has a set, I avoided picking it up knowing how hard it is to put stuff back on the shelf........ Yeah, not sure of the exact purpose of the 'slots', possibly for cooling of the gas tube, being in an enclosed space, not sure, but yeah like 98Z5V said, that's the way it came, the 'slots' are actually squared off at the top where they are designed to locate in the Aero forend, I mounted the upper in the lathe and radiused them to the same ID as the carbon tube, which is why they look shiny in the pic. As soon as we get home from holiday it's getting suppressed
