Saiga308
I am going to order a scope but would like guidance. An illuminated optical is a must for me. Long distance version obviously. What are your thoughts? Links?
98Z5V
I've been very, very impressed with these: http://www.primaryarms.com/primary-arms-4-14x44mm-riflescope-acss-hud-dmr-308-223-reticle-pa4-14xffp308 I have two of them now, and two of the versions that are just mil-dot and non-illuminated. I think your budget will be determined by your shooting distance , inexpensive Scopes wash out at extended range , if long range is your goal . Very nice. For $279, is this going to work good long range? Decent to put on a $2,500 AR-10?

sketch
vortex is my go to. primary is my secondary and fits the budget when needed. I think primary reticals have more rnd than most.. but not enough time on one to make it 1st.
jtallen83
I have a PA 4x16 mil dot scope, for the money you can't beat it. It has done just fine spending some time on my three 308 AR's. Compared to my Bushnell Elie scopes it has a smaller eye box and a little less crispness in the image department, most noticeable past 200-300 yards and in low light. Turret adjustments are not as crisp but I don't find that a problem. Overall for medium distances on the range they are well worth the money, the Bushnell elites I have msrp for 7 to 10+ times the money the PA scope cost me. The warranty on the Bushnell scopes is lifetime replacement while the PA was one year.

In the $500~$800 range, I just went with a Nikon Black X1000 for a bolt action .300 Win Mag gun. I needed something more than 14x on the scope, or I would have done another PA for it - seriously. That Nikon went for just over $600, and the magnification range is 6~24. You'll need 30mm rings for the PA scope. You'd be better off with a one piece extended mount on a big AR. Armalite makes a pretty bitchin' one, it's not over the top on price, and it'll match your Armalite. BONUS!
98Z5V
Hit the Armalite mount here: https://www.armalite.com/product/ex0022-scope-mount-medium/ ^^^ That's a medium height mount - they make a high mount also - I can check mine and see what you need - this was the first mount I used for my first .308 AR, and it's not getting replaced... https://www.armalite.com/product/10805010-30mm-scope-mount-assembly-high/ Edited January 23, 2018 by 98Z5V
DNP
I've got a 4-16x vortex FFP on my bolt gun that ran around 800. Might have been 750, might have been $850. Illuminated reticle works nicely, pretty clear. Probably not all that much better than the PA scope, but fit what I wanted to spend. If you really want to go up to around $800, shop that range and you can always move that scope to a another rifle down the road if you decide you need to spend more. There are some damn nice (and expensive) scopes out there. The guys who really know what they're doing and what they're after probably love them. It would be a waste for me. I'm not all that good. jtallen83
Hit the Armalite mount here: https://www.armalite.com/product/ex0022-scope-mount-medium/ I have two and they are rock solid.
EngrBob
I don't have enough rounds downrange yet to comment on how well it will hold up but I recently purchased two Monstrum 6-24x50, FFP scopes. These are heavy scopes, seemingly well made. When I compare the clarity with my Vortex Viper PST 6-24x50 I really can't see any difference in sharpness or light level, but that is with 70-year old eyes. They have a lighted reticle and the parallex adjustment is on the side as in a tactical scope. Originally I was going to mount them with a Burris PEPR mount; however, the distance between the rings is too short because the parallex and horizontal adjustment controls are offset. I ended up mounting them on very cheap QC mounts that I got from Amazon, I think they were $39. In any event I mounted the scopes on a 6.8 SPC and .338 Federal ARs. After a quick sight in I put around 30 rounds down each at 200 yards and both stayed in about 2" circles (on a cheap UTG bipod, no rear support). Next time to the range I am going to check zero, remove the mount and then remount to see if it will maintain zero (saw this done with this mount on a YouTube video and it worked). The reticle is etched, not wire, and the FFP takes a little getting used to, but I am getting to like it. These scopes list for $229 and I picked these up on Amazon for $219. I am going to get the PA scope you suggested along with this mount!!! Should I do this mount or the taller one you were talking about? Maybe taller is better for future upgrade to higher mag scope with thicker front end? Or this one is great? Thanks for all of this support!! 98Z5V
You can search the web by the Armalite part number - and enyone that's got one in stock should come up in the search. Also, Armalite isn't out of stock on items long, so hit their email notification on the product, so you'll know as soon as it's back in stock. I found the medium in stock at a couple places, just by searching "Armalite EX0022."

98Z5V
I have the medium on my 308, but that's with a 40mm objective. I think a 44mm objective would fit fine, since it's only an additional 2mm per side... Tell you what - I like that mount enough... if you pick up the medium, and it doesn't clear this scope, I'll give you my same money-back guarantee, and pick it up from you. I always have something I can put it on. Edited January 23, 2018 by 98Z5V
