blue109
You should use a smaller hammer!! On a serious note...I broke the stupid bolt catch screw head too. Still works but its ugly. Im pretty sure its common on first 308 builds.
EasyEJL
hmm any tips on how not to do that when I finally get my lower in? :)
blue109
Just lube it and go slow and it should be fine. The metal is very thin at the bolt head so if you crank it it just crumbles.

98Z5V
Talk to a good, local gunsmith first - see if there's one that can do anything for you. Broken bolt/screw extraction is a pain in the ass.
Robocop1051
My simple mind had to read this 5 or 6 times before I could understand... And I'm still not sure I got it?!? Could you post us some pictures of the damage? A lot of guys here should be able to help you. Edited March 16, 2013 by Robocop1051
98Z5V
I think he broke or stripped the bolt catch screw, then somehow, during more disassembly, the buffer retaining pin broke. I think.
Robocop1051
Does he think the issues were related? I'm not seeing the reason for a gunsmith yet? Replace the parts, and start shooting.

blue109
The bolt catch screw is a pain. Theres not enough metal to grab with anything. Mine is in deep enough to hold. I just left it broken. Meh.
Rsquared
Bolt catch screw extraction. He's right. That's a bitch on a little tiny screw.
collin minchey
well i got it fixed what i done was got a #37 drill bit and drilled the threads out of the pin then cut the tab off of bolt catch and then cut through the bolt catch and cut the pin in half then it just fell out re tap hole out and install new bolt catch i guess being a furniture maker gives you super steady hands, next time i will run a bottom tap in all holes i assumed they would be tap out right and you know the old saying ASSUMING IS THE MOTHER OF ALL F##K UPS
